I suppose I misinterpreted the original design." He basically saw the parts from the fountain among other machine parts from the Ancients and tried to recreate them and ended up with the bishop. By extension that'd likely mean he also made the rooks and knights. If I had to guess why the ones in the Ruins are so damaged it'd be that he abandoned the caves a while back (which we know from his sinkhole quote "I plugged it up a long time ago".) so they just never got any maintenance after a while. Either the new quotes are contradicting the old or the design he misinterpreted is referring to something else. Quote ROOK_NIGHTMARE = "The builders have left it in a state of abandonment." If he made ALL the Clockworks why does he say "builders" here? Unless Klei are just humouring themselves with making character dialogue based off of the forums speculations at the time the rest of the fountains look like they are made of thulecite and moonrocks, it would be amusing to imagine Maxwell stumbled upon just the glass bowl alone and from there figured that it's purpose must've been part of a greater plan involving a whole ensemble of robotic chess pieces. Â Maxwell has to be referring to something else with that quote?
