Don't know if you're speaking only about character specific or not, however anyone can detect worms with just torch. Attempting to set fire on a plant will succeed, if its worm however you won't get the prompt to Light it up

Even simpler, just hover your cursor over the glowberry and see if the text for it is blue. Depth worms always have the wetness debuff, even when everything else is dry, so the text will never be white.

Its not foolproof method - it does not work when its raining in cave since everything is wet

There's no such thing as a completely foolproof method.

Anyone who thinks they have made something completely foolproof is severely underestimating the ingenuity of complete fools.

A way that always works is taking a torch and seeing if you can burn the Glowberry.

Only real Lesser Glowberries will get the burn prompt while the Depth Worms ones can't.

Yes, but who clears out monkey/ruins biomes of depth worms outside of summer? :wilson_sneaky:

Also, this means electric attacks are always effective vs depth worms, regardless of season.

Lol... that was the guy that I originally responded to suggested.

Cutless can be used to force items out of lureplant one by one, with non-flying animals dropped in stunned state where they can be picked up; this can be exploited to make eye plants work as traps/bird traps to catch small animals for free. I personally find this exceptionally useful for catching birds.

Characters with lower damage modifiers such as Wendy/old Wanda can deal more hits on lureplant before it dies.

Please be reminded to keep posts and replies on topic, in this case about lesser known or unknown game mechanics to share. Let's try not to tangent away too much from the purpose of this thread.

Thank you.

Apparently you can use cannons to destroy sunken objects!

Supposedly giant veggtables don't spoil while sunk. Maybe this could be used with cannons as an alternative to bundling wraps.

Now that you drop trinkets on death, if you get cursed you don't need the Monkey Queen anymore. You can die and have Krampus/eyeplants delete the trinkets for you! Eyeplants are especially good since they instantly delete them and don't need time to digest them too.

It has proper donut (triangle) physics now which means you can safely sit inside it.

Sadly this was slightly changed. It's no longer possible to sit inside safely anymore as you're kicked out safely after a few seconds...

HOWEVER!

This excludes mobs and items! You can still use holes as wonderful decor and mob traps! Here's some examples of INVENTORY mobs I've put up for display.

I was sharing around the fact that shadow items can repel small Gestalts to some friends in a Discord chat, and @Primalflower had asked if it was possible to use this for staying safe during Moon Storm Nights and I went to test and...

Sure enough! You can!

As a refresher: Shadow items like the Dark Sword and the Night Light scare away small Gestalts! This means you can build them in Enlightened areas to make a protective barrier.
The range isn't too big, but its something!

And as Primalflower had asked, you can infact use them to keep yourself safe when fishing in areas with Gestalts, including during Moon Storms!

This is a crude/rough line showing the protective area of the Dark sword dropped right behind me.
Thus making me immune to losing my fish fish from gestalt attacks!

Not exactly an Unknown Mechanic, but a rather useful one nontheless.

The Fencing Sword uses a Spear and some flint in its crafting cost, this means you can take those low durability spears you have that are just about 0% and turn them into 100% fencing swords for more use!

This one is very simple but for some strange reason I never thought about it before:

You can hire 3-4 pigs and take em with you on a boat to salt formations. They will always aggro cookie cutters and even manage to attack them before they get close enough to jump. Only problems with this is they may aggro one cutter while other jumps in so you better be cautious and take a weapon with you. Also, please, for your own sake, don't let the pigs eat the cutters' meat.

Spoiler

The most loyal crew.
