I wonder if they will make a release comic or a trailer for Winona, because it feels weird to just throw her in there.

we don't know anything about other characters, i don't know if they have to do something for Winona

I'll give a wild guess of the main reason...

"Armed with her indomitable spirit and trusty mending tape, Winona seems to have been plucked straight off the factory line and dropped into the world of Don’t Starve for something's unfathomable amusement. There may be more to her arrival than it appears, however, as more than a few eyes will be watching the next move of the newest survivor…"

Now you could argue that Charlie brought her into the world for this "something's" amusement, but I dunno. v(o-o)v

winona kept charlie's toys when they were kids and charlie couldn't do anything because of winona's physical strength

charlie knew about the DS world, the nightmare creatures, and their powers, so she deliberately went to become maxwell's assistant

one day charlie rigged waxmell's book to take them to the DS world on purpose, knowing how powerful she'll get there

when she gains full control of the DS world by taking the throne from maxwell and wilson, she's near the final steps of her ultimate goal

fueled by the desire for revenge, charlie pulls in her own sister, winona, where she's completely helpless from charlie's power

finally the tables have turned, treat your little siblings well

I know it's weird replying to an old topic, but I was going through her quotes page a while ago, and here are some rather interesting (and maybe lore-significant) quotes I found that could give us hints on what happened (my comments are in gray):

Ancient Gateway (Forge version, inactive)- "Just like the one I came through..."

So she came through a portal of some kind...

Florid Postern- "That was a one-way ticket.

I guess that was her interdimensional "landing point" or something.

Cave Banana- "Everything since I got here has been bananas."

Gord's Knot- "Everyone's been real good at showin' me the ropes. Ha!"

Comments about her interactions with the Constant and other survivors, probably.

Rainometer (burnt)- "Must fire take everything I love?"

Winona (firestarter)- "Haven't we lost enough to fires, %s?"

She has had a bad experience with fire in her past, probably the Voxola fire (since that's the only significant one we know of right now). This is also referenced by Maxwell in his examination quote:

Winona (firestarter)- "You were the last one I expected to start fires, %s."

Sibling rivalry explains it all. Winona is at least I think she is, Charlie's older sister and I bet they had some rivalry in the past so ye know, as a younger sibling you'd love to get revenge. Altho I think Charlie should have grown out of these thoughts... Well well, only time will tell what dragged Winona to the Portal

Literally nobody cares about Winona. She is a crappy character. Don't care about the lore. Make her interesting to play, then we can talk.

I beg to differ, but that claim seems to be a bit of a stretch. I too think Winona could have had more mechanics, both positive and negative, but at the same time she isn't genuinely broken in any aspect. Her "counterpart", Wilson, isn't any more complicated than her and he is accepted as a standard character.

As Fang stated above, how does this in any way contribute to the thread at hand? Stay on topic next time.

When inspecting the "odd radio" trinket with her,(the one of hallowed nights) the quote is:

"I'm not messing with anymore radios"

I see this as similarity with the way wilson has been brougth to the DS world,Charlie has probably used (like Maxwell) a radio to comunicate with the real world, maybe only radio signal can pass trougth the worlds......
.

I think several things:

  • Winona worked at the factory where Voxola radios were made.

Kevin said in a thread:

"The radio is a Voxola PR-76, manufactured in 1919 by the Voxola Radio company of Sidney, Ohio. The radio offered revolutionary sound and reception quality for the time, and was promoted by an intense national marketing campaign. Very few units were actually produced, because the factory was destroyed in a fire only days after production began. Voxola founder Robert Wagstaff went missing the night of the fire, and the company declared bankruptcy soon thereafter."

And judging by her quotes as a firestarter: ("Haven't we lost enough to fires, %s?")  and burnt Rainometer ("Must fire take everything I love?"). I have enough reasons to think that she worked there.

  • I think Maxwell and/or Robert Wagstaff was an accomplice or guilty of the fire in the factory.

When Winona inspects Maxwell as a firestarter:

"Mysterious fires follow you like a plague, %s."

  • Voxola's radio are the portal to The Constant (DS/DST World)

As @Simsure and @Endrew says above I think that this is how she's here. Really, that's how I think all of them came. We see it on Forbidden Knowledge. The radio is the way that all come to this world. Very few units were actually produced. And those few radios were at the hands of our protagonists.

I think there's a very good lore behind Winona's story, we only must wait and see how Klei will unveil it. (Sorry for my bad English)
