Wolfgang's Character Refresh is Coming Next Week!

Remember Weremeter, when they improved it from like 1 min to 4 mins? Remember Waxed Giant Plants which were added purely because of players wants? Remember all that countless improvements and balancing shortly after release?

As the last resort, modders can make a mod that brings previous Wolf back (they did so for Woodie).

Also as @DajeKotlyar said, everyone was mad about Wanda being stronger than The Strongman. Now most of skilled players use her as their main character and they love her (me included).

 

So many people sore over losing speed buff.  Be honest - if Wolfgang were a new character introduced today without speed buff none of you would care.  You only care because you're losing something.  This is no different then people whining when a cheese method gets patched out, like when AG ai got bug fix.  The speed was the most senseless part of his kit, and a major reason why he was considered OP.  Congrats, your character might not be top tier now.  Now is when we find out if you actually liked the character, or just played them for ez mode.

Also the hunger => mightiness is gone.  It should be gone.  It created an odd play pattern where new players pick up the character and see their hunger drop rapidly, then eat to stay 100% full.  They see the character gets mighty and think this is how he's supposed to be.  The meme of draining the fridge isn't a joke lol  By changing his mighty form to use dumbbells and a workout station, with its own meter takes the fridge raiding out of his kit, and shows players that mighty is a different thing they keep up for when they wanna fight.

Also - ppl acting like his damage is worthless without his speed, or only worth while in boss combat - you're just being dishonest.  Damage boost helps you in almost every aspect of the game.  Killing a koalephant takes significantly less time, hounds are just 2 hits, bats just 1 hit, etc.  Literally all mob farming that you don't automate is quicker, easier, and uses less resources.  And what you automate is automated for everyone, if you don't need combat then don't pick the combat focused character lol

Also - still great for boss fights.  Still effectively cuts their health bars in half.  Anyone using pan flute or wall for bee queen will have no effective change for this.  Still get a stun and +1 scale solo dfly.

- I do think they could make his kit more interesting.  Someone mentioned having different workout modes.  It would be cool if he had a "trim" and "bulk" mode.  A trim mode that gives little damage mod but does give 25% speed boost, and a bulk mode that removes the speed boost for the full damage mod.  Pick which minigame you play at the machine, use the circus bell to maintain either mighty form on the go.  Sounds like that would be a cool improvement to me ^_^

I also remember when the community asked for only the nutrient value of Durian to be changed and they then changed just about every other nutrient value as well to the ire of the community.

The difference is that Klei listens to feedback (as with every update) and reverted that change in RWYS. Since the update isn't out, we have to wait and see.

No it just isn’t important and now that Wolfgang is limited to just being dps he hasn’t been made more fun in anyway. Almost no aspect of the game requires you to have large amounts of dps except for boss combat which is highly situational and even then you don’t need 600 damage having a 2x multiplier and a 6x multiplier are practically the same thing because how niche both of them are

so? wendy and wigfrid are also only useful for fighting or wormwood which is only useful for farming

Tbh wolfgang was pretty boring to play and i've played him almost exclusively up until Wanda. I don't think it's that bad, maybe it is, we just need to see how much setup getting mighty requires and how fast it is.

 

The one bad thing i definitely hate is the speed nerf.

Wendy was worse than Wolfgang because exactly that she was tied to that single niche of crowd control wormwood has his speed boost which helps him have more kit kinda like old Wolfgang wigfrid has more team value and has her songs which add even more to her team abilities if they had just given Wolfgang team abilities he would’ve been just fine

This is almost my dream Wolfgang refresh.

He gets consistent damage boost instead of a fleeting 2.0x that tends to averages considerably lower in practice, he gets an immersive Might mechanic instead of the super-abstracted hunger=might thing he had going on and he gets some serious Strongman flavor overall.

I do wish he had some more utility perks though. Like being able to ignore speed penalties from equipment in Mighty Form, which would incentivize using stuff like the Piggyback and Marble Suit (and maybe even the Ice Cube).

I also wish his Might could be applied to chopping, mining and hammering like an anti-Wes. That is Mighty Wolfgang could swing the tools harder, expending more durability to do more work per swing and thus ultimately saving time.

I believe your forgetting that ever since January 2021 that people have been able to ding a little Christmas bell and have a permanent Speed Boost follow them around anywhere they go all over the map..

If you want your speed buff outside of Combat- Use the thing that not only moves faster, but can also pick up resources now without ever needing to dismount.

If your wanting the speed boost IN COMBAT that’s the part everyone universally agreed made Wolfgang OP, (there’s even speed run videos for him BECAUSE of the extra speed..)

But- If he did higher Damage without the Speed the trade off is still roughly the same- it will obviously require more skill- and easy dodge kiting is gone… but that higher damage- if your good you’ll still be good.

...honestly, I think it's fine that the speed boost is out; there are enough speed boost options in the game now. He still has 200 health, stronger hits, and now several utilities available, so he has a place in gameplay. I just hope his mightyness can be upkept by things like Rowing and Combat; it sounds like Carrying will.

In any case, as long as his damage remains higher than Wigfrid's, he'll still be the boss-rusher.

We all knew Wolfgang needed a nerf, but the main thing I'm worried about is that the character is getting too complicated. Back when DS was released, all the characters were pretty simple, and Wolfgang is nice in his simplicity. This seems to turn him into a whole new character. I really liked the dynamic between characters getting harder to control but becoming stronger in the process, from the easy Wortox to the moderate Wolfgang to the complicated Wanda. Now, Wolfgang might be more complicated than Wanda, and that's weird to think about.

Personally i have not liked most of the refresh klei has done, i don't like their formula of making previous abilities and upsides more tedious to obtain/use and their solution being adding a gimmicky crafting tab for every refreshed character. All refreshed characters feel very niche and gimmicky more than ever, they start to feel like a "pick and switch"  character just like winona and such.

I liked how the characters used to be simple and pretty straightforward with their upsides and downsides yet they had their big differences between each character, i feel like characters now feel more complex and situational than they need to be and that makes the experience even more tedious than it was before and boring to me at least.

Wow, an actual nerf planned for the character update? (As opposed to the stealth nerf that Wicker got with RWYS). I wonder if this will stick.

Didn't play Wolf much after trying him out in singleplayer, where I was having trouble finding any challenge in the play style.

The gym as a structure worries me, I think few people will have the patience for a minigame to get a buff that wears off. I guess it will depend on how quickly it wears off (maybe carrying a piggy back could slow it, as it's implied to be heavy?)

I am hoping the nerfs stick - it's so boring to get on twitch after a new boss is released, and every streamer is playing the same character. Like, "wow, anyone care to show how the boss can be fought without OP abilities?"
