First, just want to say

I should also mention that there was a point where a great majority of the forums opposed a multiplayer version entirely, so be glad there is one at all.

Not a valid argument in any way, shape, or form. They wrote a piece of software and are selling it; they're not doing anybody a favor. Even if plenty of people got it for free, there are still plenty who paid for it, including those who bought it in early access, and it is perfectly reasonable for those people to expect the product to work the way it's supposed to.

Having said that... just what in the world is it that people think is so broken? I've seen a complaint about pengulls, which is pretty minor. What else? Stuff people are dissatisfied with but works as intended? Suggested changes? Neverminding that some people will never be happy with what solutions they're given, Klei is not in any way obligated to cater to your every desire, actually or ideally.

I was trying to write this one as politely as I could yet still I was seen as some ****** who just needs to shut up. Well thanks a lot, guys :(

Dude you called Klei corrupt for operating the way a business has to operate to stay afloat. You're unreasonable, seemingly incapable of understanding anything that doesn't fit in your little box, and all you ever do is complain. So yeah, you're making something of a reputation for yourself, and some people are tired of it, no matter how polite you think you're being.

Y'all need to chill out. They spent two months updating the game at least once a week if not several; they obviously care about it. But other projects need to be worked on too, because warm fuzzies don't keep the lights on at the office.

Wow. You told him off in one fell swoop. I'm impressed.

Also, I agree. Stop complaining and learn how a company functions, bro. You can ask for an update, but stop attacking Klei in such a manner that makes everyone in the whole gosh darn company look like villains.

(I love how the hockey dude looks like he's _skiing_ down the hill of...sand? salt?  I guess he just really needed to get to Tim Hortons, eh?)

Anyway, yeah. Profits and whatnot aside, it's completely unreasonable to expect any company to work EXCLUSIVELY on one project when they've already got others on the burner.  I think about the only time that would happen would be if it was a small company and some big event was coming up that they wanted their flagship product to make a really good impression at.  Then everybody would pitch in and make sure it's ready for the awards show or whatever.

Other than that...just as singular people have more than one interest and alternate between more than one activity...so do companies.

...Notorious

We have some info on things coming soon. (This week unless something changes)

But to quickly (lol quickly) summarize an answer to your questions which center on why are we releasing new things instead of fixing other things.

The simple answer is, we have been working on those other things since before the things you want fixed were even released, they just happen to be happening now because the team is finishing them. (see, simple!) And the majority of what's been released for DST lately has been bug fixes.

That being said, we are working on other games for a few reasons. One, we want to, because we enjoy developing games. And two frankly it doesn't make sense for us to devote every resource into one single game. This has been the case since before Don't Starve, and it always will be.

The simple fact is, everything we make; we get a ton of demand for more. That's not a humble brag, although it is flattering. Look at any release and we have people asking for more. We still get requests for more Shank, Mark of the Ninja and god knows how many different things for Don't Starve.  We aren't large enough to do everything all at once, and even when we have porting partners, we still need to be involved, and that takes resources.

In terms of Don't Starve, go back and look at just about every release. The moment we do anything, we have a ton of requests for the next thing. We have a never ending queue of things we want to work on.

When it comes to shipwrecked, frankly speaking, shipwrecked is a released game. We weren't setup for shipwrecked to get continued updates past launch. And we worked on shipwrecked well beyond the planned development to not only make it a DLC instead of standalone game, but to also integrate the games so you could move between DS and SW.

But, before we can just tell you "Ok, let's get to fixin!" we have to have the resources to fix it. Besides that, we need to have a better sense of what needs to be fixed. As I mentioned a couple days ago, I am going to be opening the bugtracker for shipwrecked tomorrow so we can start getting some info together on what we need to work on there.

Things change, and they change a lot. And as often as they do change, we try to make you all aware of it as soon as we are reasonably certain that we can commit to it.

For example. We have known for quite some time that we want to look at the issues with Shipwrecked. However if we shifted resources to work on it, DST would be later, DST for PS4 wouldn't currently be in beta and we wouldn't be working on some other things that I can't talk about yet. ;) (sorry)

Anyway, the point is. I know you all want stuff. Shipwrecked for... everything, More content, PVP changes, more multiplayer content, bug fixes for all the things.  And I know you all want info, but we really do try to do our best to let you know when we know for sure which can be petty hard with so many things going on. And even then, we miss early estimates on releases all the time. (Spring 2015!)

We try to make the best experiences we can, and that's not going to change. If that means making people wait longer, that's what it's going to have to be. Not because we don't care, but because we do care.

And I am not going to ask you to give us the benefit of the doubt, but I do ask that you look at how we do things and understand that not everybody wants the same thing.Tell us what you want, tell us what you need, express yourselves in constructive ways that show us what you like, and what you don't like. We'll all try to figure it out, and see what we can do.

TL;DR: We try to do our best to prioritize based on what the most people want, what's best use of our resources and what we are capable of providing. When we know, you know.

These things take time, I mean I've been able to do other things during Klei's intermission period where things would usually come to a standstill, but I still want to help contribute to the bug threads so I can try to move things along.

Heck, I even signed up for the PS4 Don't Starve Together Beta to try to contribute to the community, which has been moving along rather nicely.

It's really sad to see these types of threads because I feel that most often, the people who make these threads tend to forgot how many people actually work at Klei, and how shorthanded they can be at times. Not that I'm implying that the OP here is in the wrong, not at all. No one is to blame for the lack of progress, it is what it is.

@TheHalcyonOne agh, we meet again! I already said in a later post that calling them fully fledged corrupt might be a bid of a stretch. And what box are you talking about? If I have it, everyone has it, because it's not pike I always clunge to whatever the hell I initially want all the time even though it might look like it. And geez, asking Klei what's going on and everybody goes nuts, like wtf?

My pointbwith this thread was to see how things are, since activity on both DS SW and most recently DST have been falling down even though many things, in particular with SW are still to be fixed. I guess we'll just have to wait. I think what I'll dobis wait for a few months to see where things go.

And @JoeW as much as I still hate you for varying reasons, I thank you for clarifying things for us on the progress and how things are going. Unless other people have anything to add, I'm okay with the thread being closed down now.

Edit: oh and I just had a thought; perhaps we can help Klei out. I myself am currently on holiday and have games to work on, plus little experience with LUA, but if anyone is familiar with it and has the time, they could help out devs by taking some of the bugs, fixing them for their game, then give the initial code and the edited code to Klei so they could then evaluate if it's good enough and if it is, add it to the actual game in the next hotfix. That way it's less work for them to do, whilst we still get some decent amount of bug fixes.

i don't understand what this post has to do with nowadays devolopent activities. that announcement is 3! years old. at that time we didn't know about ROG, we didn't know about DST and ofcourse we also didn't know about SW.

what the announcement was about was that the initial free support after launching through early access is now over. so? it has been mentioned that expansions are still going to be a thing. the latest announced expansion is Through the Ages which was supposed to come out last year.

so there really is a valid point in asking whats happening at klei if you concider that it was announced for end of spring 2015 or whatever it was.

on the other hand i do believe that klei should take all the time they need to deliver a good expansion pack but it cant hurt to let the community know what they're up to in a new road map post.

The point I was trying to make is they have delivered their promises and exceeded expectations. They never fail to at least TRY to support older projects, but priorities lead to the next big thing for them. Putting their main focus on an already completed game wouldn't make sense for them, but at least they show they care for the community wants and needs.

Edit: Instead of reading my non-dev nonsense, read Joe's 'actually a dev and knows what he is talking about' post a few spots  above this post. I sure didn't until I already typed this.

@rezecib does that from time to time... that's not a bad idea... the Klei people are professionals though, and as we now know, they just need time... they know the code, they just have a lot on their hands... like what joew said, keep reporting all the bugs you can find and they can work on them faster... :)

At long last we have gotten a response from you guys I don't want to say how long I was waiting to get a answer on something similar.

It's great to hear at least some of your thoughts as this forums has and will have repetitive questions being asked constantly begging for answers and as a development team it doesn't hurt in shape or form to bring up these forums to update the FAQ or make future post answers to question threads such as these. The decision you've have are perfectly reasonable and i'm sure the majority are fine with them. But, many people like myself have completely put the game to the side thinking the support for it has slowed to going to unnecessary features outside of the problematic bugfixes (which there are still alot of) and griefing shenanigans, which it is extremely important to keep your playerbase involved with as going from the little as your thoughts as a dev team to your current projects. I've seen countless games fall just due to the lack of response of what the devs could be deciding to bring the game next especially if it's never released, one good example of this is TtA promised awhile ago accompanied by the teasers through the livestreams (frog monster, skins and possibly more).

This all aside reading across this thread some are saying there are no problems with this game and I can give this a soft no. There's no gamebreaking bugs I will agree but, there are definitely small tune-ups that are needed for example the nightvision command as a client completely abuses the caves/ruins, Abigail's AI and griefing/votekicking, these are just the few that come to mind even though I haven't even touched the game in a few months.

I thought that the night vision for client was fixed! Oh and also the PENGULLS, don't forget the pengulls! And Dragonfly, don't forget the Dragonfly (exploits, such as Lavae not being able to jump over walls, Ice flingomatic freezing things (which is kind of an annoyance with followers, tbh), Lavae being literal fire-beefalos that Dragonfly keeps spewing (bit too much hp for them) and at once, Dragonfly glitched out and started spewing Lavae WHILST enraged!) oh and don't forget the non-renewable resources such as bee hives/killer bee hives/honey combs, pig houses and bunny houses oh and don't forget the... You get the gist \/_\/
