Before we begin, if you do think that Klei should properly finish the Gateway arc and connect it to RoT then may I recommend my suggestion, which is basically the continuation of this thread.

So it's been 4 years since Gorge, and while I am aware that Forge returned after that, it wasn't cannon in the lore afaik.

There hasn't been an offcial/proper ending to the Gateway arc that would tie it to RoT. And yet I haven't seen many people complaining about that. Maybe it's just that new players after 2018 don't know about that arc, maybe we've all just forgotten about it or accepted that Klei won't finish it.

Well I sure haven't!

It is understandable that Klei doesn't want to make any Forge/Gorge-like events since, as the devs have said, "money from skin sales was barely enough to cover the cost of running the event servers" but Gorge's end could be connected to to RoT's beginning. The 'issue' that I see Klei might not want to tackle is that, if they were to do so, they'd be basically 3 years late (beginning of RoT) and that might 'make them look bad', which... yeah I mean it's your guys' fault for not doing anything. And while I understand that the easiest solution would be for a dev to just flat out write some lore as a forum post I do think that that'd be unfair to the entire arc. We should get something from it for the main gameplay, not just a christmas tree decoration (I expand on this idea in my suggestion thread).

Or maybe I'm just someone who needs to let go. Do y'all care about this plot hole in dst's timeline?

And if you indeed don't care about Gorge's end then why? Was the victorian theme bad or the aesthetic of Elder Bog. Don't you want anything else from gorge, the (pretty decent tbh) farming rework we got was kinda based on it so maybe cooking/trading could receive similar treatment.

Also I wanted to explain why in this thread I'm mostly talking about Gateway arc like it only consists of Gorge. That's because Forge was pretty much concluded with gorge's arrival. Survivors appeared in elder bog with victorian clothing and the only things they brought from the forge was a banner and a hammer. So unless they've learned how to craft forge's weapons or how to do sick attacks then I'm afraid no forge-based fighting refresh in the nearest future

Like I said, Klei I understand that you guys may want to just leave this entire thing in the past... but come on, I doubt that anyone in the community would care if you broke your linear treatment of the update-timeline relationship in order to patch up a plot hole.

These events were and I quote- “short lived & under served” on Consoles.

Forge was never on Xbox at all.. and Gorge was a blink and you missed it type Event. Klei keeps adding skin sets from events I never even got to play.. and there are vignettes within the game that are a painful reminder of content I may never get to play.

Klei obviously heard our complaints about “limited time” content because NOW players can toggle on or off any event (Year of the..) at anytime.

Gorge/Forge however remain to be limited time modes that people playing on Xbox didn’t even get to play.

For many people (myself included) the Gorge/Forge storylines may as well not even exist.

Cooking rework? Yes!! I'd love to see the cooking stations from the Gorge.

As for the arc, well, it has been so long that I'm not even bothered by its incompletion. I'm just going to assume after the Gorge, they were sent back to the constant (with little to no memory, based on the gorge themed ornaments quotes), and Charlie absorbed the gateway's power.

Forge was fantastic, I don't think I ever actually played Gorge (despite my answer) but I saw a ton of it, it looked neat. I am really disappointed that we got this really neat arc that made it look like the lore was going to move past The Constant only for it to never go anywhere.

I played DS for a long time, then stopped after Shipwrecked. DST started getting a ton of stuff and I ignored it. Didn't actually come back to the game till 2019 so, in short. I am among those people.

Remember when I said Klei was just going to keep making gate arcs and not finish them?

Maybe they're trolling but now there's another gate at moon quay island. I think Wagstaff is opening portals all over the place now too as a side effect of some experiment he is conducting on the lunar energy (looking for a way out?).

So you get a gate, you get a gate, everyone gets a gate!

The gateway arc kinda feels like a noncanon fork in the storyline at this point, with the lunar stuff involving both Charlie and Wagstaff and changing up the world significantly - and I sorta get the feeling that that was deliberate.

These events allow Klei to give us fresh experimental gameplay in bite-sized chunks, and I think (actually, pretty certain they straightup told us) they just keep their cards open for if they ever have the brainwave/resources to put into another type of involved event like Forge and Gorge while in the meantime working on lasting basegame content.

(/s, but imagine if they were just stuck because they were trying to find another word that rhymes with -orge.. Do you guys think 'scourge' would pass?)

PS: Dead horse, but I still feel like they should just make these events available year-round, or at least available more often, without the need to add to the events every time and with only a dedicated server for each regions.. Players are already reverse-engineering the events and playing on self-hosted servers anyways.

At least you did not get pushed out from the top 100 in the last hour and left even without a bronze portrait. xdd

On the other hand, translating the Gorge recipe page to Swedish was oddly satisfying and really fun. :encouragement: Too bad said page is unavailable now.

Edit:

Oh, the page is still there. Whooooo. :D The scoreboard is not, though.

For me the arc was closed (for now):

Lorewise it was another attempt at leaving the constant, which led to nothing... and maybe a bit more as I love to theorize. Content wise it was a way for klei to try a new form of event and gameplay.

I like to think that gorge is the reason why the characters learnt how to farm properly (with the reap what you sow update)

Sure the update came way later, but I don't see why it couldn't be placed earlier in the lore, as in: after they came back through the portal they had this new knowledge (minus the malbatross' watering can).

I also like to believe Charlie knew the survivors would go through the gate, and it suited her plans as they would not find anything. I'm not an expert in lore, but didn't Maxwell and Wilson get the cyclum torch? Which she needed, and used, at the end of the RoT arc.

The survivors going through the gate could have given her time to get the torch from them or do some other stuff.

For example, since all of them were away from there, maybe sending shadows to get wanda, or maybe she did something during that time which, later on, caused a piece of the moon to fall (afaik we don't have an explanation as to why it fell)

I'd love to get a trailer solely focused on Charlie one day...

As to the forge and the closed gate in the archives... I have no theories about them. But the closed gate in the archives means that if they wanted to release another of these events (which would be rare) they could connect it lorewise through that gate.

Maybe they'll go the other way and call it Dorge.

call it DOORge and have it hamlet style ruins exploring, problem solving. at the end is a GIANT door(that leads right back to the constant)

I too only was able to experience the events via mods (how I would have LOVED to be there back then though!), but I think we at least got a really good portion of lore, especially from the Forge. In my headcanon, the characters gave up portal hopping after ending up in two more hell realms and maybe the Gateway is actually uncapable of bringing them to any place, because it is BROKEN. Maybe that means some realms are cut of from the connection, ironically probably the survivors world.

We got to know that the Constant is a multiverse of realms, with the survivors chilling in the hub-realm, and not all realms are dominated by nightmare fuel. Charlie wants the survivors to extend her kingdom, so by winning the Forge as Charlie's pawns, we doom the place and let the nightmares in to rule, increasing her power.

There are Winter Feast ornaments for forge 1, forge 2, and the gorge.

It shows that all the events are cannon due to character examine lines talking about the events.

Personally, I would like for them to expand on what Mumsy said (another of your kind came through the gorge), but I think it's fine as is as well, that is, vagueness on what happened after our survivors finished forge 2.

This quote pretty much seals the deal too:

(Forge and Gorge portals spawned for comparison, if the similarities were not clear enough)
