I'm curious to see the most played caracters and the least played ones and the reasons why you enjoy this one in particular the most.

I recently watched a orangE video where he tries to find that out by seeing the players in random public servers and the results where interesting.

Personally I play Wigfrid and Wendy but I main Wig since I enjoy killing bosses and I can easily kill every boss without healing or sanity foods with her.

I main 3 characters but I mainly just play Warly as of now.  The other 2 being Wormwood and Woodie and Wagstaff in DS.  I usually play Warly because of the dishes he can make are very useful and the spices are very very good.

I main Wes & Warly because I really like their designs, their difficulty, the complexity of their kits, and their ability to help the team more than the average survivor. Roughly in that order. Before Wes' rework I basically only played Warly, and ever since Wes' rework I so far have only played Wes. Wes can also be rather funny. I like seeing people talk about whenever they find a "balloon cache", but even better than that is it is hilarious how without fail you can walk up to someone with a balloon in your hand, put it in their pocket, and then they'll put it in their hand.

I don't really have a main I would say but I do play a lot of Wolfgang in late game, I like fighting bosses and farming logs, which as Wolfgang I can do very well, honey spice or weather pain can make quick work of the trees and any tree guards can be taken care of quickly. With honey spice resource gathering becomes a lot easier to the point I don't see Maxwell being too favorable.

Early game I do play Wigfrid quite a bit because of the ez helms, and of course you have your switching characters like Warly and Winona.

Where is option "I don't have a main"/"Other"?

I'm really comfortable with more than 1 character, and I might not know all little clever things one can do with them, but can perform better than average gameplay as them for sure (for solo worlds or help team on pubs). That characters are: Warly, Wendy, Wormwood, Wortox, Wigfrid, and Woodie to lesser extent. I like that relatively new characters and ones that were reworked have unique playstyle, are very good in certain role (but it doesn't feel artificial as in PRG to me), and all that combinations of character's strong sides in multiplayer.

I wish more characters from single player DLC's were added, although I understand people who would rather see someone completely new.

Wendy.. people would say because she’s the most OP thing ever- they would be wrong (my second favorite character is Walani who according to the Internet... is about as useful as pre-rework Wes.)

I just enjoy their personalities, their quotes, their voice sounds, their unique gameplay mechanics however deep or extremely basic they may be..

For me in personally drawn to all things a little odd and creepy in cartoons (I mean I grew up on Batman, Mighty Max, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers Beast Wars & Gargoyles FFS.)

So OF COURSE Creepy girl who can summon ghosts & help other ghosts find lost stuffs hits home for me.

Maxwell all the way, as a primarily solo player never having to worry about getting resources is amazing, his sanity Regen is the definition of Luxury, his personality I find very entertaining, and his voice is my favorite.

Also lore.

(Also Klei, please give him a skin for his fur coat from adventure mode)

I almost exclusively play solo and I don't really ever swap characters so I really enjoy playing as Warly.  Not only does he provide some interesting game management in the early exploration, but once set up, his perks are off the charts.  With honey crystals he can harvest fast in the early game, with spicy volt goat jelly he is a powerhouse and garlic jelly beans make him as tough as nails.  I love using his Glowberry Mousse to explore the ruins and work at night.  In winter the Hot Dragon Chili is utterly liberating.

To be honest, I haven't used his cooling aspargazpacho and don't use the fish cordon bleu nearly enough.

I don't "main" a character I guess. A couple of years ago I mostly played Wolfgang, Wickerbottom, WX and Maxwell. Back then, they were the most interesting and powerful characters. That was before any of the character refreshes and so on. I liked WX the most towards the end because I got the hang of clearing the ruins early on and fast exploration.

Now since I played again, I almost exclusively play Warly. I'm not 100% happy with the character or I haven't figured him out enough yet, but he is interesting to play and has very powerful support upsides. Warly is for supporting what Wolfgang is for combat. What I miss from the characters I mostly played before is their high freedom and mobility. With Warly I have to plan ahead more and get into a rythm of doing things, because his upside relies on farming, while with the mentioned above I could basically do w/e I wanted after some minimal setup.

I'll keep playing him until I figure out a very efficient way of providing his upsides w/o being too glued to a base. But I'm also eyeballing Walter and Winona. Walter for his high mobility and interesting combat upsides, Winona because I always liked her flavor/fluff and since her refresh she seems super strong and I'm kind of starting to like base building more, where before I kept that part to a minimum. I might also play some more runs with Maxwell for the same reason.

About the results so far:

I'm kind of surprised that Warly is so high on the list! But I guess people really like characters that have very clear and unique upsides, which is indicated by a high Wolfgang and Wurt.

Wurt seems like a very cool, interesting "Webber done right" kind of design. I understand why people like her that much.

I never liked Webber and apparently not too many people do. But I find his optimal playstile just very one dimensional, which is basically swarming everything with spiders.

Wormwood looks so interesting and I got him for free with Hamlet. But at the same time I think most of his upsides are quite under-powered while he has some of the strongest downsides. I feel like something could be done for the character to make him more of a farming specialist, which the game currently lacks.

Wickerbottom has fallen out of favor so far? She was easily one of my favorite characters a few years ago. I guess her horticulture nerf really hit her hard. Her new books seem quite underwhelming as they are random and weak. It might be time to overthink the nerf and give her something more useful.

Wortox is no surprise as he leads the race right now. He is very self-sufficient, very mobile, good at combat support and super easy to survive with since he can easily avoid damage and heal up on demand. Despite his high efficiency and unique style I don't like him personally. He doesn't feel like a DST character and I cannot quite pinpoint why that is but my guess is that he is just defies all the rules so to speak like Webber.

A surprise to me is that people don't like Walter too much. He definitely looks like a character that provides tons of freedom while having interesting up and downsides.

I also expected Woodie to be higher.

I guess these polls are okay to have every once in a while with how much the game is changing, so it’s interesting to see how the updates make some characters get more people’s favor and others get less used. I voted Woodie because our of my 3900 hours, around 1900 were with him.

However with all the latest updates since YOTB I’ve been shifting towards a mix of Wickerbottom and Maxwell again, and I think if the tendency continues I might main Maxwell entirely once more. I’m finding a lot of fun in the combination of Beefalo fight + books magic and creating a lot of new well rounded strategies with it.
