Now in testing - Reap what you Sow

In Beta, Making Applied Horticulture needs 5 seeds and 5 manures. The problem is seed! Because changing crop to seed doesn't give normal seeds, the only way to get it is just picking it from ground. Making 1 book needs 5 seeds but only way to get them is just picking?? wow...

I hope there be change. should be more way to get normal seed or just reduce the cost of Applied Horticulture. Or maybe able to make Applied Horticulture with any seeds.

I cannot share the joy of this update. I sincerely don’t understand what it is for now. We've got unfinished water, non-renewed characters, something new in ruins. Why not complete at least one update branch? Why make another farmer and fisherman simulator? The unique game turns into some kind of chimera. I don't understand what the company is trying to achieve. It's sad to know that the game you loved so much is getting more and more broken.

i think the game is getting more deep not broken

before fishing and farming crops was by just clicking and wait, now we have easy mechanics but deep

Just now, stranger again said:

is that a good thing or a bad thing?

imo good

for example fishing. Isnt the most efficient way of getting food but fishing is fun

trying to catch difficult fish is way more fun that clicking in a pond

I like how a certain group of people used applied horticulture as an arguement to accuse Wickerbottom of being broken, but now when a nerf regarding it finally reached the door of reality they're whining that it's too much and that the character is unplayable now. Neither isn't Wormwood, just because he can't plop every seed on the ground doesn't mean his entire character is suddenly worthless.

Almost like mass-hording tons of resources with an easy-to-get book isn't balanced lol

DST isn't a competitive game (for the most part), there is not need of balance except if one character overshadows other characters. I didn't see wickerbottom being picked over other characters because she was so OP. It's not like the book prevents you from dying, it prevents grinding. And I agree it deserves to be nerfed a bit, but I personally think 10 plants/read is too low. Maybe if it was 10 plants of each type around Wicker? Or just up the limit a bit?

5x Manure 5x Seeds 2x Papyrus

33 sanity per reading for 10 plants

I wonder what use case does the book serve to make it viable to use.

It doesn't cost sanity, if you have none. (taps forehead)

so it's 5x manure +  5x seeds + 2x papyrus = 50 grown plants. I don't like this big nerf either, but not for it being unviable or not worth it. It just makes getting grass and twigs more tedious. (not that i would megabase, or play Wicker that much, but I empathise with the megabasers.)

casual games don't need balance?

Personally i think they don't. By balance i mean trying to have it as equal as possible. Of course having too much power difference is bad. But I actually like that there are strong characters for people who want to progress quickly (wolfgang) and weak characters for people who want challenge (wes) or easy characters for newbies (wilson) and harder characters for veterans (warly). So yeah, IMO balance for the balance sake isn't needed in casuals. For me the variety of power is another thing that differentiates the characters and reason to play them when i am in certain mood.

Tillweed Salve restores 8 Health instantly and another 20 over a minute, but it seems quite bad compared to how cheap Healing Salve and Honey Poultice are. Also Tillweeds are pretty rare and cannot be intentionally farmed (as far as I know).

Can someone explain the new farming loop to me please? I can't find anything on youtube yet and have no way of checking it myself atm, and most stuff i can find here and on forums is generic plant-care-harvest. Do we still need to sacrifice most of produce to the birds to get the seeds? As a Warly main i always hated farming since you have to click so much to plant and gather everything, only to spend most of it to recoup seeds.

nope, when you harvest you get seed and if you give to the bird you receive another one

that without taking too much care of the plants, other users said that you can get more taking care of them

The new farm plots (if you wanna call them that) are dirt cheap. 2 boards, 2 ropes and 2 flint can make enough soil to plant 36 seeds.

The new system is a tad complicated to explain here (though there is a really good post on it somewhere in this forum or on the Return of Them forum), but suffice to say just a little investment will guarantee that you'll get both crops and seeds from harvesting. So if you plant 36 seeds, you can easily get 36 crops and another 36 seeds.

If you take good care of your crops, however, you can get oversized plants that can be hammered for multiple crops and seeds. Oh, and plants can now grow in winter and summer too, apparently.

yeah but it is a poor-man's jellybeans. the instant heal isnt the draw as much as the regen. for people who cannot/don't fight beequeen it is a good substitution

It would be if Tillweeds were easier to farm...

Besides, both Tillweeds and Tillweed Salves spoil. Combining it with low spawn rate and no possibility to farm them intentionally means it's unlikely to make them a viable healing source.

maybe though my friend was streaming the beta this morning and got four tillweeds in less than 40 mins, three of them growing at the same time. she had three plots dug and active and they all grew on the same one

Okay so how does "check happiness" works? I have the hat, i researched the plant, and now when i click to "check happiness" the generic "character is doing something" animation plays for couple of seconds and nothing happens. Also am i correct that you can't refill watering can from the sea? Whenever i try doing it my character gets stuck in animation for 3-4 seconds (as if refilling) but nothing happens afterwards. I was only able to refill it from lakes so far.

Those problems aside, i already like this farming more than previous one. Even if you just leave plants without caring about them, not having to recoup the seeds means x3 results. Also the fire weed is awesome and made winter even easier than before (and i like Wortox quote upon being stung by one, saying that there must've been silver inside of it).

See, this is very fair enough, you actually explained yourself without crying over "wicker ded, plz halp".

But like, to me, playing with a Wickerbottom, NEVER felt good.

Wicker made and still does make the game too easy, anything she does makes the game too easy,

And with how DST works, it makes the game easier for everyone else, and for a game as easy as DST... Yeah, no thank you.

Her functionality stays the same, Klei nerfed her most BRAINDEAD aspect, which is effortlessly farming UNREASONABLE amounts of resources and food, in a matter of seconds.

You can't tell me this doesn't break the whole idea of "Uncompromising SURVIVAL".

Also, there's the thing of absolutely feeling bad.

It doesn't feel good (to me at least) to play a character like Willow, Webber, etc, etc and have a Wicker who completely replaces my entire character's purpose by existing, even through different means.

If you have 1 Wickerbottom, and 10 Wesses, it wouldn't matter, the game would still play out the same way it would've with different characters.

Why? Because Wickerbottom takes every aspect of the game, flips it, and makes it incredibly easy.... And her downside?

Not being able to sleep :)

These nerfs are very welcome if you ask me, she feels reasonable now, and not like you're playing with creative on.

Yeah but realistically suppose we want to grow suppose 10 evergreen trees....

that's spending 5x manure +  5x seeds + 8x reeds

+ sanity cost of x 33 = 99 sanity and sanity is most difficult to obtain of the 3 base attributes

And all the 3 resources are somewhat tedious to collect.

Also we need to take account that the trees are chosen at random and many of the effects go to waste.I don't see myself using it.
