cool, but small. Could be nice to have access to second stage after defeating boarrior, Where you start with best items from previous stage and defend against stronger mob waves, get more powerful items, armor melee weapons etc and kill stronger boss

Forge feels like... incomplete, it has bigger potential

On one hand it feels far off the original Don't Starve Together experience, but on the other hand I can't help to love such a take on team-based raiding. It feels very refreshing that the developers are experimenting and trying out new things. Big kudos to them and cheers! The Forge, from what we got to see in the beta, feels and looks polished, but I agree with @landromat that it could have been a bit more fleshed out (the weapon system is really cleverly done, albeit some abilities were rather lacking in terms of usefulness and fun). Looking forward to the release of the final version!

Not enough eapon upgrades. People were literally fighting over who would take control over a staff.

I enjoyed the weapons when I did get a chance but too much internal fighting in groups when people should focus on the enemy.

I wouldn't mind more battles beyond boarrior but Boarrior was a real rush.

This is more of the issue of the internet not having an age requirement then Klei's game design.

Also comes from players with poor information.

Like in a team with Wickerbottom, Maxwell, and Wilson where the Wilson refuses to give up the healing staff because he thinks Wilson is No.1 best healer and deserves the staff more then the weaponless Wickerbottom. Not only is the Wilson an underdeveloped imbecile but he's a wrong underdeveloped imbecile as well.

I see where you're coming from. I'm a Wilson main but if someone wants to use the staff, I'd rather let them take it unless someone lets me. I'd rather be team necromancer than bicker over who gets the staff.

I enjoy most of the roles. I can't be the one kiting boarior, i'm awful at that. About the items, i would like more options, but as long as i'm not stuck with a book i can stay with my item with no upgrade, it's ok. With the book i could be bored, so i prefer playing a character with dart.

I like the forge, just kinda wish there was more variety and rng when it comes to waves. Like how in Binding of Isaac Afterbirth greed mode is always different, different enimies and stuff but still have the same end game boss.

Then again it was only the beta, who knows what will happen for release.

I'm sorry you dislike it. Have you played it though? I remember you saying that you don't wait for it and don't care.
I'm way more interested in Don't Starve content and didn't care about Forge, expecting it to be bad. But I tried it and I'm amazed. I love how Klei handled skins. Instead of luck based money machine for players, you can actually craft skins you want, not just hope for getting expensive skins to sell.

I liked it. The problem is that I don't think there's enough variety, so the replay value feels limited. And it's meant to be replayed...

That's definitely true, I agree with you. I ended up with level 43 but got only 5 wins iirc. That's mostly because after getting the hang out of default gameplay I was trying many fun challenges with my friends. All ranged characters is actually very easy until Boarrior comes. 6 Wes team was pretty good but aggro perks were causing trouble. We almost won with 6 Willows, it was really great. We were also trying to get win with just 4 people. I think they managed to do this, I wasn't present though. I still can screw up and I'm a laggy boy.

I know that we've got lots of profile backgrounds, but many of them are very similar. I'd love more backgrounds that are unique. Cave biomes, Ruins... I'd love something rose-y that is not Florid Postern.

I agree with this so much! I was a bit disappointed by the similar pictures, but at least those are (almost) the least important stuff in the Forge.

I’ve watched a few streams, but I haven’t played it. I just don’t have any interest in arena or boss fights. For me, those are the parts of the game that I just grit my teeth to get through til I can get to something fun. I know lots of other people feel otherwise and I posted earlier that I’m happy that the players who wanted another big fight are getting their wish, but it doesn’t hurt to remind Klei or whoever that there’s a part of the avid fan base that wants other things. I’m hoping we’ll get something like adventure mode. And I’m really stoked for Hamlet. I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade, but I’m pretty sure I’m far from the only person who doesn’t think of DST as primarily a fighting game.

Love, hate, confusion.

Love:  I love a good raid fight, and Klei did great making this a pretty good raid fight.  It was definitely pressing some great nostalgia buttons for me, from my days raiding in other games.

Hate:  I don't have a friends group that plays DST, and people with a dedicated group of friends are going to have WAY more fun and success with a raid than those who don't.  So it really alienates the solo players out there, of which there are many.   Having to try to do this fight with a raid PUG was a nightmare, and reminded me of how much I despised having to put up with random pickup groups to try to do end game content.  And it reminded me of why I keep my DST server closed to strangers - because strangers can be right assholes.  (In before "just make new ones on steam".  My schedule is weird and irregular, so making friends on Steam isn't easy, and I can't play from May to October so even if I make friends they've usually moved on when I'm not around for a whole summer.)

Confusion:  Why...is Don't Starve adding...raids?  I mean it just isn't even remotely like anything in the game, at all, both in the gameplay style and in the lore...so ...I don't get it.  Not necessarily a bad thing, just it's real weird.

I wouldn't call it raid. But I have noe experience with this term, so I may be wrong.
It was meant to be unlike anything in the game and I love this. That's the best way to make event not boring, fresh touch.
I think like that's the direction Klei took right now, Hamlet DLC for Don't Starve is sure not going to be like anything we've got in the game so far.

I see Hamlet in a similar fashion to Bioshock Infinite's mechanics but that's from someone who's only seen screencaps in the steam store.

Needs to be more weapon variety, melee spend the entire raid using the same weapon from the start.

To compare this raid to one in an mmorpg, the entire thing is a tank and spank. There are almost no mechanics besides dodge the bad, and killing totems when they show up. Adding some mechanics would make the experience a little more interesting other than hold f and stand in heals. Though that might be asking a little much considering just how far off The Forge (a wave based raid) is to the original game (survival). I'm probably just picky because I've spent the last month doing actual raids in Final Fantasy 14, so this is almost child's play.

Really? There are so many games which do the same thing so much better.

And a big portion of these games aren't even good.

I mean I liked the forge as infrastructure for a next event(we actually had klei hosted servers and matchmaking, plus bonuses for being in a group) and the addition of skins, but the event itself is kinda interesting until you beat it once, then you just play it for skins/cause your friends are playing it.

I would very much prefer just adding content to the base game, also I really do not like that the reward system is built upon the notion that this mode has much more replayability than it actually has.

I personally enjoyed most of it. As a solo player I did have some concerns as well (playing with randoms) but that didn't matter in the end. My steam friends list has always been full of DST players I have basically never had an actual game with, so for me it quickly turned into this place where I would actually play with these people, get invites, get to know them and ultimately win lots of games together. It was great fun and I am excited to go at it again!

I've recently lost interest in DST itself, probably mostly due to exams this year sapping all time and energy and server problems, but more than that, I don't know.. I'm making this post straight after trying to play vanilla DST again, and uh, to put it simply I guess I've just become more hooked on Forge right now.

The Forge is nothing like DST, and that might be part of why I like it too; DST, for me, became this dull cycle of hopping on, getting my bearings, trying to bond with strangers, getting myself killed early(because I'm bad at the game cough) or leaving the 30 days of progress because life, then dejectedly logging off and feeling like I could have used the time better. The Forge was stark different. Forge was a team thing where you just hopped in with a full platoon of people with the common goal of teamwork, fun, victory, an adventure where you just jump in with your favorite character/fighting style and fight and strategize. It's just a positive change of pace for me from trying to scavenge for flint and build a base and just having action and fun instead.

(In defence of DST, the problem is really probably with me just feeling Forge more worthy of my time these days, having more action and fun and playing a play-and-reward event than go through the arduous and less rewarding and more slow-paced game that DST as a multiplayer survival is meant to be. Like I said, exam year. hhhh)

Even when you lose, you're rewarded for your half an hour or so with sense of achievement in the rank you achieved in the team, experience, levels, gifts and maybe even a friend or two! It's just.. so much more fun compared to vanilla for me now.

Even though it did feel a bit repetitive at one point(after like 5 losses and server issues), the Forge was nevertheless no doubt a thrill for me(god I love juggling weapons as Wigfrid or freezing like 20 pigs as Wicker), and now I really can't wait to play it for real with my friends and be able to scream at each other on discord and have fun when we get the chance. Aaand hopefully get my pessimistic ass back into the vanilla game and have more fun with that sometime too lol
