But what role does Wilson play now?

Recommended Posts

Wicker has a greater cultural background. (and part with greater scientific knowledge in the game)

Winona is a faster and better builder and engineer.

Maxwell has immeasurably more advanced knowledge than his.

Wagstaff is the new stereotype of the scientist and inventor, the great creator of Voxola, a parody of Albert Einstein.

And in game, Wortox is the new undisputed mass curator.

We neglect that, since years now, anyone can build an effigy of meat, and that in DST Klei has added much cheaper methods to resurrect.

Even the "magnificent beard" no longer has exclusivity, even Webber and Woodie can have it. And anyway, in Hamlet or SW what is it exactly for?

The question is... Wilson what role does he currently have in the game of which he is the protagonist and symbol?
Does not excel in any field, does not stand out for any reason, serves no purpose, all the features that gave it depth (both as lore and as gameplay) were given to others.
He is no longer even the most iconic scientist... (Wagstaff embodies the stereotype of the mad scientist much better).
In my opinion Wilson should flourish again with a new look, unique and with the thickness he deserves.
Wilson, in my view, should be emphasized as a kind of Frankenstein: a scientist trying to resurrect the dead! (and which tries to become immortal in its turn).
I don't know what this can entail in terms of gameplay. But surely he would make Wilson a unique and iconic character again, with a disquieting and pathological appearance, to the detriment of all the others and Wagstaff in particular (who embodies a different kind of scientist, that of a prodigy inventor for the good of humanity)
What do you think? Do you also find it urgent that Wilson rediscovers something that makes it unique, in terms of lore and gameplay?
Always glory to the magnificent beard.

Story of my life.:wilson_ecstatic:

I think Wilson will be the group doctor. He has been constantly hinted to being a healer in both events.

Although I agree that some of the skills he could possess were handed over to the other characters, I believe (and hopefully) that his scientific part can still be well explored. After all, "Science has no limits".

In particular, I don't think Wilson's refresh will be so difficult because he'll probably only gain new features.

Solved!

I personally always wanted something unique for Wilson.. Not only for being the first character.. But cuz he has a kinda quirky personality that doesn't get reflected on his abilities.

We have seen a bit of his crazy Frankenstein side in the Halloween update with the weird alchemical table... That was really fun.. But we need more if that.. Much more.. :D

Yes pls.. More crazy science for this table... I'm hungry xD

Abomination!

Part of me wants to say start him off with a razor, have the beard grow faster, and give him a few more beard hair things

I'd wouldn't mind taking the healer route, but he would need forge's staff to compete with Wortox, and it would be hard to compete with the revival methods, hearts are easy to make and amulets are very flexible

I'm still mad about Maxwell using the alchemist name during the Forge. That's more like Wilson's angle. Wilson should have a focus in chemistry and healing.

exactly, and that must not stand in this land of madness and abnormality, with men who gain muscle mass within a few seconds, sentient machines, and spider children, a normal person is just downright heresy, and must be changed for the better.

He will always be the chicken-strangler to me.

.... nah, I'm only joking. Wilson will always be the curious science / pseudo-science / magic -dabbling man who set it all in motion. My biggest memories of him are still from the Don't Starve intro cinematic and all the puzzle comics. It feels like he's constantly up to something mysterious in the background; an epicenter for mystery and a catalyst for otherworldy events.

hmmm tbh I don't know about the "doctor" role... At least not in the modern sense... I think he is a bit more on the side of being bold taking risks with people's health "for science" than caring to much for them...

and in the forge he isn't really a doctor... he just can use staves like Wendy or Willow.. that doesn't make him a doctor I think... He is a jack of all traits..

he can revive them faster which isn't really a doctor... just some frankensteinian resuscitation technics using electricity and magnetism he probably got when he was experimenting with inanimate corpses... like Galvani and Aldini's work that inspired Mary Shelly in the first place

hes a borderline scientist to me. hes only a 'failed scientist' because he goes beyond ethics; i'd even say hes more fitting to mess up with nightmare fuel than maxwell, because the latter is just an entertainer using some opportune book

i would really not like him to be the "beard guy" because i never saw him like that from the start, and just being good at resurrecting is not enough when you put it on the table with the already reworked characters. if i was tasked to rework him i would try to look at health management, nightmare fuel crafts, or living being crafts (rabbits, birds, moles, bees, etc)

I mean, if only Wilson got the ability to posses beard hair, he would be better, but I don't think it's possible in together, with Bernie and all. But yeah, a healer/resurector makes sense. Maybe some better healing items/beard hearts/ability to recharge touch stones/more beard-based strategy could be implemented, as this beardroll sprite I made some time ago:

It's a bound liquorice roll.

BTT A healer and/or makeshift Wilson would be very nice. Like mad lab/ancient lab he could craft a personal crafting station others can also use to make flasks and potions and use some beard hairs as an ingredient.

Wilson is the protagonist

He does protag things. Like being a protag.

He's the protaggiest of all the protags.

Spoiler

Jokes aside, I'm actually kind of wanting him to stay untouched, I love Wilson as he is, and kind of want to make him stay the protag, starter character.

If my hand were forced... I'd say he should definitely get some more mad science related things in.

Or the ability to amputate people and give them wooden limbs, we know he can from SW.
