hey Klei, What's next ?

Recommended Posts

They announced Season 3 not along ago. I think 'maybe' they'll put much more energy in new content after Winter's Feast will have ended. Dezember-January is usually the time many people have holiday, so please have patience.:) After that we'll propably have a new New Year's event. @The 2C3D gave a good hint what the updates will be about.

i don't want to see the word " event " ever again in my life
it's just straight up boring and only for the skins.
like who actually still enjoys playing forge.

I enjoy it too, especially because in the past I was playing alone a lot and then later with one friend in survival. So forge actually helped to get some new friends that can also join us in our survival games. And it's a nice break from the survival in general.

My commentary is off topic, it's up to you to read it or not.

Spoiler

Not boring, it became repetitive for experienced players some days after the Swineclops was released. Experienced players only need more challenges, as previous Forge or as the Gorge did.

I've also realized something: I haven't played many mechanics so far (Fuel Weaver, Moonstone Event, Bee Queen, etc.). Should we be asking for new content when we haven't tried the ones we got already?

I actually bought DST only because of the events. I was fully aware that they're time-limited, but with ~90h in the Gorge and ~50h in the Forge so far, I think I still got my money's worth out of it.

And, of course, I'm super excited for future events. :wilson_ecstatic:

Events are good, but more content is needed for normal survival. I think the developers are preparing something Grand and magnificent.

IMO the events exist only to keep us entertained while Klei works on the big boi stuff.

They also exist for profit - permanent updates might introduce some more players to buy the game itself as it gets more exposure and coverage, but that's still minimal now that DST has been out for a long time and all. The large collection of skins the Forge and other events have would involve much more of the community to (hopefully) invest cash to get skins to use in the normal game and game-modes and give them a lot more funding to keep working on permanent free content for the actual game.

In the meantime, they can placate (and bring back) existing players with game-modes very different from the normal game and a horde of skins to save up for when new content hopefully comes out, and hopefully attract new players to the game itself with these new events too that will immediately be tempted to not miss out on event-exclusive skins.

as Atkvin said :
it might for profit but it might not just mean profit which isn't bad, but they also take time and effort and come at a cost
but my main concern is
klei wouldn't bring back forge just for no reason unless the community wanted it, this is probably something bad of sort since this can give part of the community what they want and some of the others nothing.
for example i see alot of people talking about cosmetics and even suggesting art for loading screen
( btw u just can do it client-side just wanted to put that out there )
and a post about, having skins for every single item..
which leads to my point which is :
time and effort on events > time and effort on base game
i want to know why, if they are limited time events, which the forge wasn't really.
and all the people wanting cosmetics.
you have to understand that thinking&drawing a skin for every item is something that really is kind of impossible.
some people might be feeling hypocritical about my posts but i think i lacked the clearness in my posts
i wanted klei to focus on main game and not go down that path of event after event
events are Limited time
but the main game isn't.
and the main game is far more entertaining than any event i have played so far.
thanks for your time :)

My main gripe with the events is that aaaaaaaages ago Klei said they where going to add an "adventure mode" to DST, and these events are it. Only we aren't getting a full adventure mode like in DS, we're getting it split up into baby-sized portions and served to us once every so often, which, while better than waiting years to get the full thing, feels kinda...... lackluster. Now a solution. How about if we could always access the events that had been through the ancient portal, before just being spat back out at the end of it. If you fail the event you could get kicked out and have to reactivate the portal, or, because I feel that DST is lacking that kinda "DIE AND YOUR DEAD" feel, you lose it all and have to restart you world. Now, that, would be an adventure mode.

The ancient Gate could be used to get into events whenever you want. But the meaning of events then disappear. Although playing any event at will is a great idea)

I honestly haven't been interested in base DST for quite some time, but the return of the Forge has me kinda hyped up.
Here's hoping that they might finally use some of that event mechanic experimentation to flesh out regular gameplay.

I'd buy a skin pack based around an in-game update if it were half as interesting as the events, or even if it just directly jacked mechanics from lore-based/seasonal events. Some form of the dog whistle in normal play would be neat as heck. There's money to be made in types of hype beyond the usual temporary Events; the base-game can be exciting too.
Don't be afraid to shake things up; DST already changes a good bit from single-player, and even SP has been making big strides with Hamlet.
