Wolfgang's Character Refresh is Coming Next Week!

Recommended Posts

  • Deals more damage when Mighty and less when Wimpy. Also takes extra damage in Wimpy form

This rework makes it inconvenient to get mighty compared to before, you cannot upkeep mightiness during fights. Before you would eat a carrot, but now you have to consume a dumbbell which will be more expensive than food.

There are blatant nerfs which Klei said would not happen in character reworks, such as HP, speed etc.

I quoted a line from the post as it doesn't specify whether he will deal more damage in rework mighty form vs pre-rework mighty form. IF Wolfgang's damage at max mightiness is higher than the current of 2x then these nerfs to make room for extra damage is fine IMO.

Otherwise his DPS is going to be less because it's annoying to upkeep mightiness.

Don't people still use healing foods for the majority of fights in the game anyway?

if you tank, if not you dont need with armors having 90% of protection

this refresh seems to remove the need of spaming food which was an annoying downside (it doesnt make the game difficult just grindy) so pretty sure we will have more free time than needing to farl 24/7 food

it sounds more confortable to be played but drama for nothing is what describes DS forums

i still remember when wendy was refreshed and people started complaining and crying because klei "nerfed" her (because they couldnt be afk at full health watching wendy kill spiders lmao) her when was just the opposite (80 damage, QoL things to controll her, elixirs, etc) and was op but people dont think or test before talking. That cost us a great and fun glass cannon character

later people though that second chance watch was op (when there was really op things but people didnt test the chracter before ssying dumb things) so now it is useless for solo

at least they didn't listen to anything when wigfrid was refreshed even if there was people with a lot of energy being tiresome about her

and it will happen again with wolf. they will release a fun and interesting refresh and people will cry with no reason or ingame testing

glad i dont care this character but i hope klei will do things like they wanna do for once instead of wasting time redoing stuff because 4 noisy players who didnt test complains

Currently Woflgang dps is based on his current hunger value.  You're rarely at 2x damage mod because every point that is drained is a deduction from this.  If the new system gives you fixed 2x damage mod when in mighty form, no matter what percentage you are, and you compare him standing still swinging a darksword the new Wolfgang WILL have higher dps guaranteed.

We don't know how fast mighty meter drains, or how easy it is to maintain with weights he can carry with him.  If it can last through bee queen, afw, celestial champion, then this will definitely be less tedious.

Wouldn't it be cool if this extended to marble armor and piggy backpacks?  Get your mighty once, wear a marble armor / piggy pack everywhere and *never* run out of mighty XD

I really hope that that will be the case! This will be a good way of giving him a bit of a situational speed boost in a way that makes sense for the character and does not make him so OP.

that is, for me, the only sad thing about the refresh. i was hopping for little perks and downsides like these so his gameplay feels different from others

lets see how fun is the minigame

I have to say, as someone who has played over 50% of my dst playtime as Wolfgang(quite a few thousands of hours), this sounds absolutely horrible at first glance. The only consolation is that they added Wanda and I'm fine with not playing Wolfgang ever again, but it still sucks. The speed nerf is obviously the worst thing imo.

I'm quite confident that this will turn him form just an unpopular character to a nobody plays him type character, Winona level tier.

Hope I'm wrong.

Please let Wolfgang keep his tankiness and speed, it's a huge part of what makes him such a beast in combat and losing both of those things while from what it seems, being harder and more resource and time intensive to obtain anyways just hurts.

Don't know what people are complaining about. All he had to his kit was double damage and the ability to single-handedly clear refrigerators of all their food. He was never interesting to begin with, just useful; you couldn't even argue otherwise because the only thing he had to his kit was 2x damage. True Wigfrid only got straight up buffs for her rework, but they were all things that made her more interesting to play to accommodate an already interesting kit.

For those of you saying they "ruined your favorite character", may I ask what exactly was your favorite aspect about him? The quotes? The aesthetics? The handsome mustache? Or perhaps....*drum roll please*....The double damage? You guys got what you asked for, balance. He carries stuff faster, rows faster, has consistent health/speed; he just needs to earn his damage instead of scarfing down 4 meatballs.

Heck, keep the original 2x damage for all I care, just let me duct tape two dark swords together at least.

What I’m complaining about is how this seems to have not made him sound any more fun than he was from his previous iteration and make him even more boring since his versatility is cut since his speed boost is gone and what people likes about him was simple easy combat and his speed boost to get things done faster both of which have been stepped to the ground

Wait, wait, wait, I just don't understand why people act like they've seen the numbers and have to work out like woodie's moose form to stay strong.

My guess is that they will make Mightness easy to maintain, like sanity, which is easy to maintain on might form for long periods as long as you're full yourself and hold dumbbells (Like Tophat for sanity). So they add more powers that you can use on a regular basis and remove the debuffs that starve faster.

But working out consumes hunger so you still have to eat more

The meter goes down over time and the draining rate is determined by Wolfgang’s Hunger, the hungrier he is, the faster it goes down

So no more high hunger drain when mighty? Anyways, I don't mind the idea of having to workout to be mighty but the nerfs are quite big. So essentially Wolfgang lost 100hp and 25 % movement speed (in some cases this movement speed penalty is good as it standardizes the kiting pattern for most characters). I know there is not a lot of us out there, but for the few Wolfgang's that exist please consider either keeping the hp or the movement speed even for another detriment maybe (getting hit drains hunger for example)

I do believe a good few of these perks(like the rowing and heavy object carrying) were things @Toros wanted right?

YES! And it's fantastic!

12 hours ago, JoeW said:

  • When Mighty Wolfgang can carry heavy items faster
  • Does not lose Might while carrying heavy objects

This could be a huge thing, depending how it affects his speed, Wolfgang might be able to carry a statue around with him, move at the same speed as everyone else and maintain his might.

  • His speed no longer changes with his forms

I'm also surprised that nobody has considered that this might be a buff? What if Wolfgang ALWAYS has his speed boost instead of taking it away?

What about marble armor and piggybackpack? Will Wolfgang suffer from speed reduction? I mean, you nerfed speed for no reason... Why not balance it? Make Wolfgang ignore speed penalties as long as he is not wimpy

It will be awful because carrying a heavy item doesnt let you have hand and body slot, even if he can carry it at normal speed, and why would you even bother with mightiness because the only good benefit is the extra damage, which its still specific for combat.
