Wormwood is a "he"

Recommended Posts

You can check constants.lua for character genders, wormwood is under Male, not with wx who is under robot.

Also, you cant get any more canon than confirmation by the lore master kris herself. He uses he pronouns.

Wormwood has two flowers, which possibly means Wormwood is monoecious.

That could be possible, however Wormwood is revered to as a "he" by other characters and the dev team. He is also listed under the male category and not underneath the same category as WX-78 and other non-gender characters.

It could likely be that he is just a male plant with two male flowers as he seems to only release pollen. He fertilizes flowers around himself which causes them to grow quicker and more rapidly. He doesn't give off seeds like a female or monoecious plant or flower, only pollen.

Wormwood isn't biologically a he/him though. Especially based on the flowers visible when Wormwood blooms in their skins.

  • Classic skin - Flower may be a hibiscus, most likely a flower with male and female parts
  • Hollow Skin - Gender in mushrooms can be really weird, but a lot of them have male and female parts
  • Roseate - Roses have male and female parts
  • Cactus - Cacti flowers have male and female parts

Until a dev confirms that Wormwood's flower is from a dioecious plant, all of Wormwood flowers are most likely to be "perfect flowers" aka flowers with no gender. Only 6% of plants are dioecious, so Wormwood is most likely to be they/them.

1 - Applying logic to a lunar magic grown plant is pointless.

2 - Gender pronouns aren't attached to biological sex.

Because there's nothing to pollinate Wormwood. Or the magic that made them caused them to be sterile. Or the intense dry heat of summer is causing Worwood to be unable to fully develop the seeds after being pollinated. Or Wormwood needs time to develop the seeds, but the 36-56 days between spring and winter ins't enough time.

Does Wormwood understand the concept of gender enough to assign themself one? They seem pretty naive about everything, especially their own existence.

Assuming the character's pronouns based on speculative biology is not a good thing.

I am quite fine with Wormwood being a he, because it's against the idea that you must be a he/she/they/etc strictly due to x/y/z/etc biology.

Again, we have the official word of the lore master that he's a he.

Are we seriously going this indepth about the gender of a plant man who talks like a digidaroo and thinks trees are his friends?

I mean there was a discussion whether WX-78's gender is Gear.

Wicker: Hello Automaton, what do you have in your pants?

WX: GEARNOCIDE
