Warbucks as a new DST character?

Recommended Posts

Klei seems not to have lost the love for exuberant explorers, flowing hair and a firearm in his hand.
Except that Wheeler isn't exactly a beautiful character... I would have called her Wheller, it seems to me more like a name.
Obviously the real problems of Wheeler are others, but I don't want to discuss she now :'D
I said, since Klei still has his love for the figure of an explorer, why not expect a similar figure on DST soon?
I know, it is unlikely that Klei will resurrect Warbucks from the grave... but dreaming costs nothing, right?
Obviously it should be heavily reworked, but I think we all agreed that he needed it from the start, didn't he?
Here's how I'd change Warbucks on his return to DST:
Health: 100
Hunger: 150
Sanity: 200
Warbucks loves his wealth: he loves gold; he has a bank of his own in London, where he dives into money like a flashfish, digs tunnels like a mole and throws it over his head like a shower.
Warbucks recovers +1 sanity per minute for every 10 gold nuggets in its inventory, up to a maximum of +10 per minute.
Beast hunter: Warbucks is a hunter; he loves the thrill he feels while hunting big animals with his trusty riffle. In his villa in London he has a room dedicated exclusively to hunting trophies, proof of the triumph of man over wild nature!
Warbucks starts with a rifle. You can craft it with gears, wooden boards and gold.
Only Warbucks can craft bullets, so without at least one Warbucks in the squad it is not possible to run the rifle for long.
Bullets are crafted with gunpowder and rock.
Warbucks regains sanity when it kills a creature, based on the creature's life points (surely only +1 sanity for creatures under 100 life points); this does not apply to pigs, bunnyman or other players (they are too "human" and Warbucks don't finds it gratifying to kill them).
Warbucks can craft trophies with the remains of some animals: he can exchange these trophies with the pig king for rewards. (or use them as decorative objects)
Example: Dragon Trophy (with dragonfly skin and monster meat): the Pig King exults jubilation and gives Warbucks 1 gem of every color of the rainbow.
Warbucks is a veteran of exploration: as a young man he was already marching in the name of the queen in the heart of black Africa! He had to learn to make his resources last: all the tools that Warbucks uses lose half of their durability.
Disadvantages:
Warbucks is now used to his life of comfort and wealth in London, as well as being old and frail.
He has about 33% less life; the food that is not prepared in the pot makes him disgusted, making him suffer a penalty of -15 to the sanity.
As you can see, this new Warbucks have the soul of the original, expanding the possibilities and giving it a strong utility within a team.

"How many beautiful people, in these desolate and full of mystery lands! I say, is it time to found a new colony in the name of great England?"
-Warbucks on DST.

It's more likely that Klei add characters in DST which actually worked instead of adding already removed characters with 'Hamlet only' abilities and theme.

As soon as I saw Warbucks in the title I knew exactly what would happen. It only took 4 replies!

But Klei have made it clear that Warbucks is most likely never coming back due to the silly drama surrounding him when he was pulled. Plus i'm sure they just wanna open that can of worms again.

If none of that drama happened I still don't think he'd thematically fit in the DST world since he's a jungle-explorer-kinda-dude and him being in a temperate backwoods style area would just be a bit weird.

Warbucks wasn’t any good to begin with, so I don’t understand the nostalgia.

He was thematically all over the place, was never an “explorer” in any sense, and had no interaction with guns beyond his portrait.

I really don’t understand the fixation some people have, and my best guess is that it’s pure FOMO.

Hmmm, I actually quite like that. One thing I would change though is making it so that the special trophy would instead drop from the boss if Warbucks had atleast engaged with it. Otherwise he would just be a pick-and-switch character. With players just switching to him to turn all their extra boss drops into trophies, trading them in, and then switching off of him. Also, with the example you gave, it would be really easy to farm gems, as the scales are farmable without killing Dfly.

I'd also make it so that he gets extra drops from game he's killed. Just so you have a reason to play him constantly

Warbucks was a horrible character, he had no interesting abilities. Why would Klei add him to DST.

and that was when Warbucks was in Hamlet, an interesting brand new world, DST is kinda older and it would be absolutely bad to have someone as Warbucks when he couldn't be interesting in like the exotic expansion where he should be the best character to play as.

he was charming, his quotes were cool to those into the niche and his battle cry was absolutely unforgettable

Excellent observation!
Yes, the trophy should fall only if Warbucks has fought against the creature: perhaps you could put a new indicator, with the word "hunting": the indicator fills up every time that Warbucks takes life points from the enemy, and until you reach a certain threshold (1000? 2000? not too high anyway) the possibility of crafting the trophy is not unlocked. So he must have taken an active part in the battle, although perhaps with a marginal role.
However, in the example I did Warbucks makes it easier to get gems, but it is designed to help accumulate "rare" materials: not only that, it still has to "barter" the Dragonfly's skin to get them; in my view of things it was giving something rare for get something else just as rare :afro:

Whelp, it's time to be Krampus here...

They shot him for a reason, in the fact they weren't okay with him.
I love him, trust me, I do. But I don't think another 90 Warby threads are gonna make Klei pull a necromancy book and slap him in the forehead with it.

Aye, he's just so good he simply got up, and left. He left the Constant and is probably taking over the world or something.

I'd love to see him again but I don't think they'll bring him back.

I played  for Wheeler and say she's cool!:wilson_sneaky:

Her appearance fits the game, but opportunities should be improved(it pleases me).

P. S. POOR WARBUCKS!:wilson_cry:(I want to see him again in Hamlet)
