The venting thread

Recommended Posts

Making this thread just for anyone to vent their feelings about dst and they don't have to make an entire thread about it or bring another thread off topic to talk about what they dislike

If i had to choose something to vent about it'd be wendy she doesn't seem very fun and her personality to me doesn't have much depth to it and i could vent about how her character could've been, but i just don't like combat characters in general

(long ass rants are also extremely welcome)

another character like wormwood please? I've gotten pretty sick of combat related characters especially when its a damage multiplier.
wormwood is a character who has little combat perks and is focused on another aspect of the game which i like

I guess the caveman talk wasn't as fun the second time.

Anyways, I'd like to talk about Wormwood's relate to plants perks that has become non-existent. In Hamlet this perk made Wormwood truly feel like he was a part of nature.

In dst Wormwood's perk has become a farming perk, which just isn't the same.

I'm quite sad that character's voices have gone from instruments that showed their personalities;

  • fast flute for Willow
  • loud and heavy brass horns for Wigfrid
  • slow flute for Wendy
  • out of tune ukelele for Walani

to more centered around the character's premise;

  • fiddle for Wortox
  • wet gargling for Wurt
  • hand whistle for Walter
  • clock chimes for Wanda

Microtransactions in paid game are pretty bruh, and I don't care if it's skins or gameplay-affecting content. If DST was f2p - fine, make money as you want, but take a full price for the game and then add paywall content inside of it... :/

If you don't want to buy skins, then you'll need to grind for spools, and it'll take so freakin' many hours to get the elegant you want or even a character, even if you will unravel every skin you get and get all 15 of them during a week. Remember - microtransactions are good friends with repetitive actions.

Ah, and a Trade Inn, how can I forget that? Who the hell said in Klei that adding a casino into the game is a good idea? You put commons/classy/spiffy in there to get a chance to win something valuable and what exceeds the starting price of what you put in there, same as with slot machine.

Frog rains. Incredibly annoying and disruptive of anything I do and I can't just ignore them. If it happens, I can't just go into caves to avoid them, I feel like I have to take advantage of them to kill moose and moslings. Worst part is, a frog rain can stop, then start again soon after - several times in a row.

I agree microtransactions in a game you already bought is lame... but they do continue updating and making new content for the game, while the price remains the same. I know a few added characters are pay to play, but they can be woven and free characters have come out as well. Also, implementing skins is a lot less exciting if everyone has full access to all of them.

My biggest gripe with Klei's money making is...

THE FORGE AND GORGE BEING REMOVED! I'm not 100% sure but I heard that the reason these events, which were originally intended to be seasonal, got removed was because the cost of running additional official servers did not generate "enough" money to justify their existence. Like I would literally pay a dollar to play official gorge again. I know re-forged/gorged exists, but I don't have friends to play with! And we were all so excited with speculation about how Forge was based around health, Gorge was based around hunger, for a cool third event about sanity called something like "The Scourge" (pronounced incorrectly) about keeping a huge fire lit or something like that. Klei please bring it back!!!!!!

I really dislike how the game doesn't have 4th sprites for characters. What I mean by this is that your character will always hold their item in the hand furthest from the camera. Another highly prominent example of this is Wendy's flower, which is always shown to face the camera, despite the fact that shouldnt be possible. It is by far my biggest gripe with the game, and while a indie game from 2013 can get away with it, Klei certainly has the resources now to add in 4th character sprites, and the fact they haven't really makes the game look less polished to me.

I also really dislike the ocean's existence. The content is fine, I don't hate it, I hate how the ocean has stunted DST updates. Klei has to fill out this massive empty space of water and make the content interesting and worthwhile to actually interact with it, and so far they really haven't delivered on that front. The amount of reasons to sail can be listed on a hand: salt biome for pearl and salt box, mangrove biome for gators/nuts (not figs since you grow those with the nut trees), the lunar island (which along with the mangrove biome are the only reasons to sail again, but thanks to wanda you dont even need to sail anymore), pearl's questline, and crab king. Imagine what klei couldve done with 2-3 years of development time if they just focused on the mainland, like fleshing out/adding new biomes, making the caves actually have anything of value besides the ruins.

I wish there was a touch-up to swap characters to make them more desirable and/or lessen/eliminate their swap potential. The fact that some characters are used solely for their craftables and structures is not very awesome, especially since they're not needed beyond the initial setup. Wolfgang, Wickerbottom, and Wendy, etc have a lot to their kit that's valuable outside of what they can craft, but almost no one plays Winona, Warly, or Wurt by comparison. How come Wendy isn't a swap character, or Wickerbottom? It's probably because they are presently needed for their kit to matter, whereas Warly and Winona's kit doesn't require their presence.

Unpopular opinion, but his special foods should not be able to be bundled; many of them are very powerful and bundling only encourages players to swap to him to amass them in bulk. If not removing their bundling ability, then at least changing the way they can be used would enforce more interaction out of Warly, or at least give him an ability that benefits himself enough to offset some of his large penalties and is accessible only to him such as every crockpot dish being a favorite dish for him; would make sense as a chef that is always trying new things and finds pride in all of his creations. Nevertheless one side is always going to be punished, either you punish the players that like to bundle the recipes by taking that avenue away, or you punish Warly by giving no objective reason to play him when you could just swap to a character you actually want to play but honestly, Warly should take priority over the other characters in that argument. And for anyone that might bring up the argument of "Why does it matter? It harms no one." Then why don't we make his recipes non-exclusive at that point? Why bother making them something only he can create just for it to not matter at all in the end? Maybe give him a bonus to his recipes when fed by Warly himself, or give a boost to himself when he eats his own recipes, or something, I don't know.

Why does this matter? It just...sucks, man. That's all there is to it, it's a real shame because they're well-written characters that get no attention because it's too easy to ignore them in favor of the rewarding characters.

Are you serious? Do you expect to have an entire studio working for you, releasing free updates because you, at most, paid 20$ for 2 copies

I dont wanna be rude but did you though first befor posting that?

You receive a lot of skins. If you think dst is grindy try csgo, dota or lol

In conclusion, do yo0u want a game that cost less than 20 dolars, with already hundreds of hours  of content  (or thousand if you dont cheat, spoil mechanics, use nasty mods, etc), to recieve free content and even more free skins forever

I dont know how old are you but think this. With the 20 dolars (i doubt anybody paid 20 so your comment is even more childish) you paid years/months/days ago klei should eat, with just 20 dólares xDDDDDDD

When usually the salary is 40 dolars or more per day and for a dev im sure it is more

A  tip for every young forumer, before complaining about prices or dlc content first ask an adult ⁰what are bills, taxes and how costly is to maintain a house

edit: as example, i have almost 4k hours (a lot of them is just the game being in second plane)in dst and almost 800h in DS. It cost me 20€ when it was in beta and included: DS, RoG,SW, hamlet, 2 copies of dst, free wormwood(because of hamlet), free pirate birdcage skin (because sw), free fire pit skin (a very rare one for playing the beta). So 2 skins (maybe more, i dont remember), a free character that was refreshed few time ago making it one of the best and most fun characters, 2 copies of dst and 1 copy of DS, 3 dlcs just for 20€

i have bough the wurt's halloween started pack which include wurt, wilson, wendy, willow, wx and maybe other stuff for 8 or 7€, cant remember

i have bough wortox+goobling skin for 7€?

wanda+her initial 3 skins for 9€

i bough the cthulhu wurt skin for 1.90€

and i bough a skin pack that i dont remember but was for halloween i think and cost me like 7€

in total i have waste: 20+8+7+9+7+2= 54€ in a franchise that i have played almost 5k hours which means that i didnt get so much skins from my wallet

lets see how many skins i have taking in count that most of the money i waste in the game was to buy the game itself and characters (i could get them for free but i prefer to support klei by buying chracters, i use the spools for skins)

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.58752f3ff6f1cdea1b065fc48a723ddf.png

all characters have over 39% of their skins unlocked

just from halloween i recieve 2 from klei as gif: halloween login bonus gave me the DF willow skin and a walter skin from the halloween event (i just made a set piece with console commands for an hour and klei gave me a skin that cost 2€ in sales). Also i recieved from daily gift and trade inn the volt goat wicker skin, treeguard woodie and rook wx that i can unravel for the full cost of spools

and as a funny thing, the last 2 months i got a lot of rare skins like 5 belongings skins and 4 character head skins

what about belongings?

image.thumb.png.7f75c75f722a6d3d3bdf7ac90fe7d79d.png

154, many of them are loging bonus and twitch drops

aaaaand of top of all of this, you can buy spools in the reward page to unlock even easily the dlc characters
