Huh, I too thought that it was a twitch drop as well, but I checked and it's part of the "Fool's Collection".

How did we get this skin then? I honestly don't remember.

um...... ok, so i think you need to understand something;  twitch skin ≠ crystalline

the saltbox was indeed a drop but it was an april fools drop. it is a different set

I think I know exactly who you’re talking about when you mention “abuse”. Someone who has ads ever like 5 minutes. I also see where you’re coming from.

I’d often watch people when I couldn’t play or was taking a break and the amount of comments asking how to check their drop status or replies saying they “only had a few hours of AFK left” was crazy.

Thanks for the points and heads up! Super excited :wickerbottomthanks:

Ah yea, thanks. By the look of that skin it could have been in the crystalline collection, that confused me.

I think people are forgetting we all got handed drops before as streamers it helped us all out. But look at twitch you start with affiliate and you work to partner imagine if everyone was partnered on twitch right away. There would be no drive no will to get that goal. This although it's not the same should feel the same way, it helps those who want to show they have the drive to be part of it and it helps prevent any negative abuse of the system.

No other drop system on twitch offered what klei did before they all are exclusive to avoid this specific situation. It will help klei know they are making the right choice and not having someone who is there to ruin it for the rest.

I think when we're so used to something change hurts us but in this case we need a chance otherwise it would never of worked. As for the number one streamers always being number one that is the routine of twitch people with flock where they see the large numbers.

It will be up to klei to decide if there is a time limit you are awarded the drop that week or if you are chosen for a specific week. Either way I am happy but I do hope there is some sort of timer to avoid just streaming for 20+ hours with drops on.

Debates like this are healthy and it helps to have everyone's input nobody should feel attacked or discouraged to voice their opinions this is how klei as a company gets better so never feel like your opinions do not matter.

Happy Friday everyone.

As purely some "whatever" regular DST player without even a slightest thought of ever streaming anything ever (even less on Twitch of all places) - and as one of the "stream leechers" popping in a random DST Twitch stream when new drops are enabled, with mute function and add blocker on, leaving said stream in a background browser tab while working - I can fairly say I have a perfectly fine dead horse in this race. Hence I will once more be blunt about all this affair as a purely random "je m'en fiche" passer-by: is no secret by now Twitch "higher ups" from management/ownership, administrators and moderators alike are all behaving more like a quackery clique of nepotism and favoritism based on the old practice of "I scratch your back, you scratch mine" and fringe ideology - no surprise at all they have a ban rule (TOS) for "you are not allowed to suggest that one of the members from our platform is able to avoid banning because they are having intercourses with one or more of the moderators" (epic lel!). With this Twitch background in mind, now having KLei applying "Streamers interested in participating will be selected by us and may change periodically" doesn't really bode well from transparency and equidistance pov (aka "same set of rules applied impartial to all"). Who can't say KLei will award or not the privilege of "Drops: Enabled" to "friends of KLei" (whatever that may be) while proverbial run-of-the-mill up-starters, "edgy boys" (Edgy Rick, yeah, I know..) and more/whatnot will be blatantly glossed over&over?! Yes, old system was prone to abuse to a certain degree (debatable), but having people manually selecting people will bring the bias problem first-row seat. I don't know if mentioned will be a real issue or not and in what capacity, yet is all about perception. Clearly this is on the minds of many, reading comments above, in a more "sugar coated" form.

you better be turning the stream quality down to like 120p

If you don't know all the facts about said person you shouldn't try to throw shade like this, it actually ruins a bit of the perspective you were trying to pass with your argument here which as always was fairly written, respectful and informative in your point of view.

It's like you actually understand russian (like myself) and understand what actual trash was going on there. xD

New system might have it's flaws. But i'm glad Klei is trying to fix already existing ones. Time will tell how all that will play out.

Just to follow-up on some of the questions/observations.

First, this is far from my ideal scenario. With the new Twitch drop system, we can't ban or otherwise block bad behavior. The majority of bad behavior in the past was AFK streaming, and that must be dealt with otherwise things get real messy real fast. With the new Twitch drops API, there is no concept of blocking or unlinking accounts for Streamers, ONLY whitelisting.  If the Twitch API had not changed, likely I would have just added some new rules (follow twitch rules, please do not game the system) and that would be that.

The way the new API works, participants have to be added manually, with no backend API for us to do so. This means, we must keep a list of participants, people can't just opt-in. This isn't our system we are trying to make work here, it's Twitch's system that we're trying to make work for us.

So with the new API we were faced with either making twitch drops work with whitelisting, or just stop twitch drops entirely, which I also considered but ultimately I believe a lot of people enjoy the drops. They are an interesting way to get out items in the game and it boosts our presence on Twitch a bit.

Second - I am also well aware of the perceptions and concerns of favoritism or feeling left out. I have every intention to include those that represent our community well and are nice, friendly and welcoming to other players. No different than these forums, you need to be polite and behave properly. But frankly, I have never seen that as a problem with our Twitch community.

However, I have every intention of being inclusive rather than exclusive. The intention here is not to make sure only some people are in, it's mostly to make sure that I have the option to not include people who are abusing the system. However, I still have to deal with the challenge of manually adding participants for each campaign, and I really don't know how that's going to work out in the long term.

All that being said, something that I left out of the announcement that I should have put in there is that we will continue the practice of putting Twitch items on the rewards page. So, those that do not want to watch Twitch streams to get items, can simply wait a little while and get them later. But they will still need to keep an eye on our community to get the points to do so.

Above all else I want this to be clear. I do not think this is the perfect system, but I do see it as the best and possibly only path forward so we'll do whatever we can to address deficiencies as we go along.

I am deeply confused, will I still be able to watch someone stream for 6 hours while I do something else like play apex legends, DST or watch a movie?

or in other words- Do all these new Twitch rules only apply to the people streaming and not the people watching?

I would love to still be able to continue to unlock & get twitch drops same way as I always have been, but if for some reason I can not do that anymore I may just have to rely upon waiting for those drops to be added to Klei Rewards page.

A very welcome change!

Hopefully with some fine tuning this will be a great system. Interested to see where it goes.

All changes are for streamers only.

This is just me throwing random ideas, but a voting system to decide on submitted streamers or a way for viewers to submit their favourite streamers for voting?

A shout-out for checking the streamer by the community so they can decide whether they like them and want them to be part of the 'approved' team?

Basically any way to make it less of a single person decision, bc we know how much work devs already put into the forums, so controlling the twitch singlehandedly... On the other hand, that will just bring more work for devs. Other option would be to refer to already trusted streamers for recommendations- after all, they know what a streamer needs to be good. No idea if putting the responsibility on them is good or not.

My main idea is to instead having streamers reach out for getting drops allowed, it was more of people deciding they want to watch the streamer and get drops, so the inbox isn't spammed by accounts that will be all nice and then afk stream anyway.

but only to the big streamers who actually get verified for it, kinda just **** over the little streamers because who wants to watch a small steaming nobody when you can watch a DST hotshot and get free skins?

he dont be hurting anybody tho

I don't know why we are making assumptions about who is and isn't going to get picked when drops haven't even returned yet. No where did this post state that you had to have a certain amount of viewers or followers to get picked. There are lots of smaller streamers that are supported in this community and have been supported in other communities with this type of drop system.

And again they are FREE skins that have no impact on gameplay whatsoever. You don't have to have them. Klei doesn't have to offer them. Picked or not I will continue to love and support Klei and play the game. I love it and the community drops or not. Maybe if you're only streaming DST because of the drops then you're probably not streaming for the right reasons.

As for the afk, view botting, ad spamming streamer it absolutely 100% hurts not only other streamers in the community but members of the community as well and anyone who says otherwise is lacking awareness or doesn't care. I don't know how anyone could be okay with spamming max ads on the lowest cooldown it's disgusting. Had it been allowed to continue it would've killed the category completely. Others view that abuse see that they can get away with it and others will come to do the same thing. There have already been other instances. We can't teach you how to care about the community but I will always stand up for it as long as I'm a part of it.

Yup, looks like the Steam login tool on the Klei rewards site is kill.

Yeah they are Free. But they are also limited. This kind of behavior used to exist, that is, KLei will reward those players who watch the prescribed stream.  Why is the behavior of obtaining free skins through AFK that is allowed in DST game but forbidden in the streamt? Players who AFK to obtain weekly skins in the game should not be judged. AFK streamer should not be judged because audiences are more willing to watch it.

Now the situation has changed. We can get skins by KLei points. This is commendable.

I feel like some people are trying to compare apples to oranges in this thread. So I want to try and clarify something here.

AFK WATCHING a stream on Twitch: Within TOS, Encouraged by Twitch (lurkers are the lifeblood of any livestream), Encouraged by Klei (The system is set up to allow viewers to AFK in a stream and still earn the limited drops).

AFK STREAMING: Against TOS on Twitch, Discouraged by Twitch for MANY reasons, Discouraged by Klei (as accordance with the Twitch TOS).

A stream should have active and engaging content from the streamer for the viewer. Regardless if you are actively watching it or not, that's just how the rules are. Defending anything against what I just put down is saying you're ok with people breaking the rules simply because it benefits you personally. Which is a whole other can of worms I'm not going to get into a debate about on the forums.

This whole thread is about the streaming aspect of DISTRIBUTING drops. If you don't stream on twitch (and have no plans to) nothing here will change for you even in the slightest. You will still be able to have streams to watch and/or afk in to earn your drops. It's just for us content creators that the process has changed a bit with the new system.

You are misunderstanding. No one is judging or against afk viewers. I myself afk or lurk in streams. I can speak as a content creator that I appreciate afk viewers and have absolutely no problem with them. If you do not stream absolutely nothing changes for you.

Afk streaming on the other hand is against Twitch rules. And breaking Twitch rules is against Klei’s rules. On top of Klei saying if you’re willing to wait you can eventually get them through the rewards page if you don’t want to watch streams within the drop time. Limited or not it is still game content given to you for free. You are not entitled to it. And being okay with someone breaking the rules because it conveniences you doesn’t make it okay.
