The looping bridge is usually near the fully-functional Ancient Pseudoscience Station (the one that doesn't need to be repaired). It's actually somewhat useful because if you're down there when the nightmare cycle starts ramping up, the 4 nightmare lights around the station go on and generate a massive insanity aura and, when the nightmare cycle is at its peak, lots of shadow monsters. If you still have stuff you want to do at the station, you can retreat to that loop and lie low until the cycle ends. You could build a fire pit and even a minicamp down there. Or you can just hold a lantern and hide in your snurtle armor.
