What mods do you use ?

Recommended Posts

What are your most essential mods that you use both server and client side.

I never use mods that alter the game in any way. I use only the ones that provide me additional information about specific things.

Server side

Show Me

Global Pause

Client side

Health Info

Combined Status

DST Where's My Beefalo?

Geometric Placement

Gesture Wheel

Minimap HUD

Craft Pot

I never host without AFK Detection and @Muche's Moderator Commands present. Never-ever. The first edition by @Ninja101 (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=398858801) worked wonders, now I'm testing @star's fork (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=869793805). As for MC, they autocomplete, so it's much easier to moderate when you don't have to fetch the correct player number and so on (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=667466089). I pick these two even for fully vanilla servers. The utility on offer is amazing.

Typically, I also pick DST Tweak Tool (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=494699184) as it offers a lot of flexibility. I can for instance give my hounds 200 HP. There are also item durability tweaks and server slots (the last not working, I deal with that on my own). Yes, its modularity is fun. Extra Equip Slots (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=375850593) just deals with the fully-irrational annoyance of wearing an amulet big enough to force you out of your jacket. Yes, it makes me feel like a rapper. I really don't like the fact, so it's either me dumping amulets altogether or EES.

I like balanced mods like @PanAzej's Mod Pack (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=445371564) and Festive Pack (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=818038080). Obligatory? Perhaps not, but you can't argue with that whopping +77 to adorability ratio. This paragraph is for cosmetic mods, I think so... I guess Running Mod (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=677265215) makes sense too - you can be a wee bit faster while prone to overheating and losing hunger faster. Extra Animations (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=827934475) and More Actions (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=447092740) essentially add fun emotes. And recolours like Painted Pig Houses (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=793677414), Animal Variety (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=804108151&tscn=1481433584) and Gnome Variety (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=820864730) or monuments like More Sculptures (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=798539671) just work for decoration.

If you like challenges, I can recommend Increase Animals (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=758921911) - it lets you add various setpieces like the tentacle reed trap. Awesome, shakes things up. And half for the challenge and half for utility or just the good old Adventure Mode feeling... Teleportato (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=756229217) - very handy. Running around the entire map to get the pieces, then assembling the thing, finally using it - extremely rewarding. You could throw in that mod which removes durability from the thermal stone to get closer to singleplayer, but it's just a little thing up to anyone.

MY WORD! HOW COULD I FORGET ABOUT @MeingroessterFan'S LITTLE ROCKET MAN?!

I will go repent now. After providing the link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=806988346

You forgot the one you use to dig up light flowers and reeds

I forgot nothing. I don't know of a mod for light flowers and don't use the ones for reeds. If you mean the custom biome I've got, it was lovingly handled within the game without mods. I simply learnt the prefabs.

Dusk and Night Music DST or DST Orchestral Background Music, they are the best! :D I really love the music in DS/T, it makes such an amazing atmosphere, so these are the most important ones. I also use Combined Status, Gesture Wheel, Minimap, Status Announcements.

I don't really use server side mods as I prefer to play vanilla, but if so, I use Health Info and Old Emotes, and occasionally Advanced World Generation.

When it comes to mods I'll be honest, I'm rather picky. Especially when it comes to server mods. I prefer mods that tweak the gameplay ever so slightly and improve the game. If it doesn't feel like it would fit in the base game, then I'm not touching it. And that ends up cutting out 99% of the mods that end up on the workshop.

Anyway, my client mods are :

Geometric Placement, Status Announcements, Minimap HUD, Gesture Wheel, and Combined Status. I also ran across Quick Drop that looks pretty good while I was double checking my subscribed mods.

And for server mods, I like to use Trap Reset, Global Pause, Craftable Turfs (although I've never actually used it due the outrageous crafting costs), and the best mod ever: Repair Combine.

I use very few on my rented server. I was very excited about moderator commands, but I could never get it to work, so I just keep a sticky notes app with the basic console commands open on it. I also use Animal Variety, Painted Pig Houses, etc., that make purely cosmetic changes, although sometimes they do cause the animals to become invisible and I have to rely.

Okay, let's see...I like to think I keep my mods fairly...MODerate (ba-dum-tish!) and I avoid ones that give you extra magic information that are super popular like "Combined Status" or "Where's My Beefalo?"  (Which quite often makes it so that after I carefully randomise all the season-lengths during worldgen so I can be _surprised_ by what happens when, somebody will instantly spoil it by going "WOW!  40 days of winter are you _serious_?!"  Duuuuude!)

I have a bunch, but I don't use them all of them all the time.

CLIENT SIDE:

Gesture Wheel

DST Dusk and Night music.  For all those long, LONG dusks during spring.  Also the winter dusk music is just...WOW.  And the summer one sounds vaguely...Egyptiany which works for the hot season...

SERVER SIDE  ones I use all the time:

Willow the Unnerfed--the mod that got me started on using mods at all!

No Thermal Stone Durability came close after...

Fling-O-Matic Range Check, although apparently we don't need that one anymore?

Pickle It!  We have an old-fashioned, lore-appropriate way to preserve meat.  Why not veggies?  This one also got incorporated into my "March of Civilization" challenge.

Automatic Health Adjust because I often end up playing alone.

Shipwrecked Characters because : P

Winnie

Painted Pig Houses, Animal Variety, Gnome Variety to get some more, well..._variety_ around here.

SERVER SIDE ones I only use occasionally:

Festive Pack, Spring Festival Pack:  Only during the corresponding seasons in real life.

Teleportato

Increase Animals, mainly to get back the two season-trap setpieces back that were taken out of DST.  I do a few other set pieces with it too, namely the reed trap and the tallbird colony.  I hardly ever use it to _actually_ increase animals, funnily enough.  (This and Teleportato sometimes don't like each other, so I seldom use both at once.)

Birds and Berries and Trees and Flowers and Rainbows and Puppies and Whatnot with Friends:  I like this one, I do. But when you combine it with Pickle It!, the amount of stuff growing on the ground gets a little..._cluttered_ for my taste.  Maybe a Huge world would spread things out a little better...but I tried a huge map once and didn't like it.

...Notorious

You can always disable all that extra stuff like the seasons clock. For the longest time I avoided this mod because I didn't know it was possible to turn off everything. All I wanted was having my health, hunger and sanity values visible at all times. And you can do just that.

I wasn't too big on the seasons clock myself, but since everyone else uses it, it kinda puts me at a disadvantage to not have it on. Oh well.
