TheTraditionalGentleman
For the love of all that is holy, can was all please return the forums to what they were before? Back when they were focused around the game, and by that I mean the parts of the game that we enjoy. I know that there is always room for improvement with anything, but I swear, if I read one more thread solely complaining about minor mechanics that need fixing, pvp that needs rebalancing, or griefers that need blocking, my sanity is going to drop to 30. And we know what happens when one's sanity drops to 30. Could some things be tweaked? I'm sure they could. But are they necessary, or even objective? Not always. And despite what anybody thinks, other than making sure that the product we bought works, Klei owes us nothing. They are (in my opinion) an outstanding company that has more involvement with their customers and fans than most companies ever come close to. So for the love of all that is holy, please quit complaining about everything! I know that I'm obviously complaining here, but I felt this needed to be said. In my experience (and I have been playing DS and DST for a good long while), the game runs just fine. So fine, in fact, that most of us players have fun playing it. So maybe, rather than trying to whine to the devs to make the game in your image, enjoy it for what it is! Talk about a novel concept. And now I'm getting off of my soap box. Good day. *Edit: Just to clarify, I'm not anti-improvement. I love it when things get polished/added, and I know that there are some things that could use some tweaks (whether the tweaks needed are objective or opinion based I'll leave you to decide). The point I'm trying to make is just to quit riding the devs like your prized beefalo, and leave them to work on it as they choose. They obviously haven't abandoned the game, so maybe turn it down a notch, eh? EuedeAdodooedoe
Oh, well won't you get a like train for that post that has absolutely no understanding of the situation, but writes so well that a lot of people will like it anyway (watch, this guy will get 5+ likes in no time!) Anyway, to the topic, there are plenty of problems to be addressed. People experience bad things happening to them that aren't supposed to work that way and ruins their fun pretty easily, so they complain. Including myself. As far as JUST DST goes, public PvE due to griefing and lack of support for newbies especially in harsh seasons as well as PvP due to balancing does not work out. Those are currently pretty much the only huge problems, which need addressing. You complaining about us complaining isn't going to solve these issues. Klei needs to step in because these three issues make the game seem extremely bad for what it is and having bad first impressions isn't going to be good for anybody. And it ain't even good for us experienced players (I'm referring to ALL THREE of these issues as griefing isn't the only kick in the balls for pros). Once all these three issues are resolved, and quite frankly, me and plenty other users on the forum have made plenty of suggestions in how to deal with these for the most part so there's really no excuse other than Klei being busy with other work to not implement something that works quite well. Oh and actually there's some bugs too that are annoying/exploits which need to be dealt with (e.g. non-renewability of certain important reaources such as pig skin and honey combs, dragonfly glitching out and lavae not being able to jump over walls as well as ice flinger freezing things when throwing snow balls and pengulls not spawning after 2nd or 3rd winter). Once all that is dealt with... Yeah, we can talk about content again. But leaving these things hanging isn't a smart way to go at all. spiderdian
If you hate griefing so much, play alone. Even in real life you have to deal with assholes If you hate PVP, play PVE If you saw a bug, there a magic tab called Bug Tracker At the point we are, we're actually the ones who should be giving something back to klei for the big love they give to us Whining about the same thing over and over again is the same of arguing with kids Stop complaining Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/69427-for-the-love-of-all-that-is-holy/#findComment-801739 Share on other sites
BluesyBuesy
*insert some obscure thing that 99% of the playerbase doesn't care about* WTF Klei! Game is literally unplayable!!11 The hilarious bit is that they actually mean it, but it's just a few loud and persistent kids who aren't able to see past their own desires and opinions. I doubt anyone at Klei is losing any sleep over it. Who cares. Rellimarual
Ok, but the lag that makes kiting 3 spiders w/p getting hit nearly impossible, plus the rang of mobs like Bearger really do need fixing. I've tried turning off motion anticipation or whatever it's called, but that just makes my character slow on her feet, which is also a disaster if you're trying to kite. That seems pretty basic and enough to ruin the game for many players. That seems pretty basic and enough to ruin the game for many players. I'm afraid there's not a lot we can do about that. If it takes 800ms for your packets to get from your PC to the server, it takes 800ms. We don't control the speed of light. You can try hosting the server yourself, but that'll just make your lag experience better and (presumably) your friends' experience worse. Unless you and your friends are all located very far away from the server you're playing on. Some multiplayer games use a trick where the mobs' location is sort of blur around its actual location, so that he's in place X for you and place Y for your friend at the same time, but that's really tricky to pull off so it usually requires the game to have been designed for it from day one, rather than having multiplayer retrofitted on like when we made DS into DST. And it isn't without consequence even if done perfectly, it leads to all kinds of other weirdness (like rubberbanding, but your friends and the mobs do it instead of you) and is a great avenue for cheating. If it takes 800ms for your packets to get from your PC to the server, it takes 800ms. We don't control the speed of light. It's like I once said; the speed of light is not good enuff! We need wormhole technologey! @spiderdian 1) That is the stupidest argument I have ever heard. Next! DST is about cooperation. If you're going to tell me to play with my friends, then why can public servers even exist? So griefers can have some griefing fun? No, because we want to play legitemately and meet new people. Griefing can be prevented, perhaps not completely, but on a large scale without turning the uncompromising part of the game into ashes (there's a pun there somewhere, I'm sure of it!). I've made countless suggestions that coincide with one another so that devs could evaluate them and see where it goes. Have you even read them? If not, here they are. 2) It's not that I HATE PvP, but that based on its current mechanics it is broken; things like STS and especially Pan flute are way too OP and can pretty much guarantee you a win because of their range and in pan flute's case its sleep effect is nearly instant! Like you don't even start playing the thing, when everyone else already goes to sleep around you! Trust me, I love me some good PvP and sometimes you can even find some friendly folks with whom you can stick together to fight against others who might swing their meat stick ham bat at you, but without artemiy's PvP fix mod, there's no fun to normal PvP, or something that you would consider as a "legit run". 3) Pengulls, still not fixed, even though I reported the bug like... a month after RoG was first intergrated into DST. And yes, during the very first DST RoG BETA and NOT the official launch. I believe the reason they still haven't fixed that is because devs aren't good enough to play legitimately multiple times for like 300 days to figure out what's up with the bug, although I'm pretty sure the problem is with the old DS RoG pengull and mini glacier spawning mechanic relation, which then was changed and caused an error (well, a bug, not an error) in their spawning mechanics. Although you have a point; I have not actually reported anything through the actual Bug Tracker in ages... whoops! Wait... It says it's archived... And also I think the problem with the bug tracker lies in the fact that you cannot post a topic like you can with others; you have to specifically go to a pinned topic and click on a certain button where Joe has put up a post... No wonder there has been no bug reports since... Omg FEBRUARY?! 4) Give them what? Our love? Like chester does? Carry stuff for them? Now that's a funny thought... but anyway, what do you mean? Buy more of their stuff, like x10 more? Make a bunch of thank topics? I thought the forum was to discuss and debate ISSUES and not something that is already good for the most part. Regardless, issues are issues and if there's one place where they should be reported, it's the forum. I've made a topic in the Suggestions section (already linked it, but in case you somehow missed it anyway, here) and with that, I was pretty much done with griefing complaining and hoping that Klei would do something with it, which I still do. Nome... Nome, don't be meandering memefully out that door... NOME! 5) Mmm, perhaps you're right there, sorta... 6) You mean like in general? Or the same stuff? If you're talking about the same stuff, then I already did, thank you very much. Lots of sympathy but there's not much Klei can do about what is, essentially, people running server software on machines that aren't operating under appropriate conditions. If you rent a server from somebody, with the juice and connectability needed to support running server software, you don't have problems like this. If you run it on your own machine on a cable connection you're sharing with everybody in a 5-mile radius, it just doesn't work that smoothly; all you can do is adapt. I can still kite spiders, but even with my server running on a $40/month Linode slot fighting the bearger head-on is a liability, so I don't. I get him to summon treeguards or set him up against spider dens/queens out in the middle of the forest, or something. TheKingDedede
Stop attacking the devs and understand that Klei is a small indie company. The game was never made with multiplayer in mind, but we should be thankful that such a game exists. The game is, for the most part, working. Small bugs can be patched out later with improvements coming later down the line and I, for one, am enjoying the experience that has been provided to me thus far. Consider the facts that Klei is also working on other games at the moment, multiple people complain about the lack of bug fixes in SW, Capy ran after the first official bug fix for SW, and Klei recently ported SW to consoles and is currently providing bug fixes for that too while also beta testing Don't Starve on Android devices and DST on consoles. Simply put, take it easy and have a good day. Grunko64
I don't think OP is complaining, so much as saying that we should be discussing the game more. And I agree - 90% of topics are about either griefing, complaining about lag or buffing/nerfing characters. These problems are obviously important but almost anything that could be said has been said before and it would be nice to talk about strategies or show off bases rather than only discussing the balance. Joachim
"Fix the lag!" Yes, Klei. Fix the internet worldwide! Why don't you do this? I hate you! If the server is run on a decent computer with a decent connection, and you have a low and stable ping, then there shouldn't be any noticeable lag. Apparently pengulls stop spawning after a few winters under certain conditions. If this is true, I suspect that there is a problem with the pengullspawner component, which keeps track of the number of pengulls and spawns new ones if this number is less than the maximum number of pengulls. It is possible that under certain conditions the count is not updated correctly, causing the system to think that there are more pengulls than there really are. If the above is the case, you should also see less pengulls each winter, until pengulls stop spawning entirely. Can anyone confirm this? It would support my hypothesis. EuedeAdodooedoe
I highly doubt the above (@Joachim's theory) because I've seen pengulls respawning in the same place as last winter on like 2nd or 3rd Winter. The problem I think is true is that when you mine the glaciers and pengulls have not yet reached their mating ground, they won't spawn there the next winter because glaciers, based on the wiki, if mined before pengulls reach their mating ground, stop spawning in that same place. And this is an intended feature in single player, btw! Joachim
It is a fact that a wired connection is faster and more stable than a wireless connection, so this could contribute to lag issues. However, it should still be playable with a wireless connection, depending on the quality of your connection. I would not recommend hosting with a wireless connection, though.
