Klei why do you do this?

I forget what YoTB skin was but YoTC was also a torch skin, maybe that is a pattern Klei wants the Year of the- Events to stick with?

YoTB also got two skins.. the one we got as Twitch drop (whatever that was I’m forgetting) & also the limited time log in one for the festive Beefalo saddle.

Maybe Year of the Catcoons is the same way?? (that torch doesn’t have anything to do with a Catcoon..)

It’s hard to say with Klei.. these guys work on a whole other level I’ve never seen any other game company work on, I mean.. most games release updates on a Tuesday or Thursday respectively but I can go back though Klei’s update log and pinpoint where an update has come out on every day of the week..

They don’t work like a normal studio, I mean.. how many games from 2013 do you know of that are still getting new content updates? Yet they updated the original 2013 DS game with the ability to tame and care for Beefalo when that hadn’t been a thing until just recently. I guess this is a double edged sword: on one hand it’s great to still get content & support for an older game you love playing, but on the other hand.. continuing to update older games alongside your newer released ones leave the newer games feeling like they would get more frequent updates if Klei wasn’t performing a juggling act between all their products.

When it comes to skins in particular… Klei throws every normal conception I’ve had about them out the window, in some games skins are ridiculously overpriced but for DST almost every skin can be obtained for 100% free, and sometimes I genuinely do not understand how Klei makes any money at all but.. that’s part of what makes Klei unique.

The new Twitch skin may be just another torch skin, but we don’t know yet if the update will have a free limited time log in skin (like YoTB) or a cool skin set (it should have a cool skin set all updates do.)

The TL:DR Klei works literal magic somehow.. just enjoy it.

There are dozens of items without skin, or with few skins, why do you skin the same item 200x? another torch skin? Oh really?

I don't think they will hear us. There are more noob-y and casual players in DST than veteran tryharders that know everything and can craft everything.

More noob appealing skins = more players because of "wow-effect" = more noobs = sales growth = more money = more noob appealing skins for more money... you get the idea. especially after Tencent's deal.

I mean, yeah, they add late-game content, but Celestial Champion was one of the last updates, while moon island, archives, fig biome, etc. were added (mostly) earlier and are much simple to get to

As of this time there are 984 prefabs without skins, and 94 prefabs with skins.

Disclaimer that this includes all prefabs, even ones that wouldn't make sense to be skinned like FX.  Skinned prefabs are making no distinction between types, for example all player characters have the "_none" skin and the Hallowe'en ones have the "_d" and "_p" variants which count as another skin so it biases those characters as having more.

A list of the skinned prefabs sorted by count and then alphabetically, which you can do a similar analysis by running/parsing prefablist.lua and prefabskins.lua:

Which sort of items are you looking for in specific?

i was hopping for more seafaring related items like lightconductor, paddles, anchor, the boat itself...

and for common non sea items they can add more skins with this thematic for minerhats, golden tools, pitchfork, football helmet, science machine, beefalo bell, salt lick, watering can, hammer, firepit, old fishing rod... there are too many started items but i guess that not always is possible to adapt a thematic into certain items, the torch was perfect for a tubular shell so was a clear candidate

klei makes a torch skin for a singular twitch drop - "they only make noob skins"

we're talking about quantity, man. there's still no skins for advanced items like insulated pack, or a weather pain, or a belt of hunger, or even damn houndius shootius.

my comment was about that i understand if klei releases twich drops for more common items so more people can be interested on getting them

clearly they know that a lot of people who buy skins are experience because people dont usually buy skins for games that they just bought while people who expend a lot of time in the game will buy skins for whatever item they release if is cool

All of those things you just named with exception to the houndius I’ve never seen anyone playing on Xbox use.

You guys wanting all these item skins.. meanwhile the #WendyMain just wants Abigail to get the matching Lureplant Skin she still does not have.

One thing I'm also really really really looking forward to would be more skins for uncraftable things player frequently use. They recently made a skin for the boulders which I guess is more for the fun than practical in term of decor... but yeah : plant skins, plants are one of the most used things in base building and it's hard to always build around a theme while the greenery only vaguely match the color or just style. There's already a dozen of different building collection styles and some of them only have abound 1-3 other related skins. Plant would make them all so much richer easily.

However I'd just wish such things won't sneak behind the elegant quality. Everyone should be able to step up their world decor with these. :encouragement:

I don't get why people complain as if every item that is not useful needs a skin, i'd rather they get buffed first, there's too many of items in the game that are not ever crafted unless it is for decoration or just change of pace.

Its much better if Klei makes skins even multiple for items and structures that are used and built from day 1.

What do Krampus sack skins do for me if i don't plan to play for 500+ days?

This explains the 10,000 spear skins.
