GLERMZ
This news came in as a shock to me and im sure to so many of us who interacted with Heli over the years. I'm sure we will all remember Heli for his great content, for bringing so many people to this game, for teaching so many players and for always being such a friendly person towards everyone. My thoughts today are with his family & friends in this hard time. LitulLola
I've only been a subscriber on his YT for a short time but I found helicalpuma thru his many mentions in other videos. He did a great job of patiently explaining everything in great detail and I learned a lot from him. I am so sorry to his family, friends and community. I will be thinking of you all and he will be greatly missed. A name or quote would be a nice tribute to him. SirToastyToes
Having taken a break from the game from roughly 2018 to 2020, HelicalPuma was instrumental in teaching me and many others the intricacies of this game. He will be missed by me and by many. GetNerfedOn
I can still vividly recall the sole time i managed to join a community world stream of his. It was late in the midnight, 12:40 if i can recall, and I was about to sleep when I suddenly saw him stream in the Twitch category. This was not an opportunity I was going to waste, so I joined immediately and picked Maxwell, harvesting when I entered. I can still recall that despite how long he hadnt played DST he was still lived up to his legacy in skill (despite that, we had a laugh over him asking "where base" once xD) He was also really gentle and friendly when I communicated. I was so honored to have played and helped him that day, and while it hurts now knowing he rests eternally, that memory I made with him will always be one of the best I have of this game. W0l0l0
21 hours ago, Gods fiddler said: i remember when Rick May died,tf2 community and developers make a tribute for him ,they put a statue of the soldier(rick May was the voice actor of the soldier) in all the maps , maybe klei can do something like that. This is different. Rick May was a voice actor and worked with Valve. Helicalpuma is a community figure, and adding a tribute would imply that if anything happened to anyone else in the community, they would also get a tribute, this would obviously cause controversy with certain people. What would be the threshold for popularity before you get to be considered? Don't get me wrong, I WANT a tribute, keep asking for one. I watched my fair share of his videos. He was wonderful. I'm just saying it's usually in Klei's best interests to not get involved too much with the community, which is why they avoid controversies between public figures, and it's better to not expect it, but be pleasantly surprised if it does indeed happen. I hope I'm wrong here. Souper
I learned of this news just now... Cheeto-Jesus
It took me a while to process this news. Helicalpuma was always friendly and kind, and it never occurred to me that I was never going to get more uploads from him again. It hurts me to know that. I remember when I only had 10-ish hours in the game; I wanted to conquer the constant, and make myself survive indefinitely through more knowledge. I found Helical's Maxwell playthrough, and watched it from start to end. His playthrough was what inspired me to main Maxwell, and survive many seasons in my cozy two-person co-op world; my friend and I took shelter in there throughout our school year, and made many fond memories together. Without this guy, I'd likely have given up on DST a long time ago. Rest in peace brother, you've changed many lives for the better. If we're looking for a small token tribute, what about a Maxwell quote? Or a pig/bunnyman name is nice too; part of the name (ie just "Helical" or "Puma") could also work. I'd like to make him the king of my constant, watching over everything with a thulecite crown. Something that I can carry around to remind me that he's still helping us all in the constant. Perhaps a free walking cane skin? The content creator community surrounding DST has grown much smaller over the years, and losing Helicalpuma, although he wasn't very active as of late, is a huge blow to that community. I think something like a walking cane skin is well suited for his impact on the game and its community. flydiiqqiidy
I know I'm late but I only just heard about Puma. I think a tribute would be an AMAZING idea if it was possible. Owlrust
So I was thinking of ways they could feasibly implement a little nod here or there and I thought "What if they added a puma-cat type animal in homage of him but also as a way to set up the next lunar year event?". I think that would be pretty cool imo. I Heart Popcorn
Clearly, Helicalpuma contributed and impacted the community at large and individual players in many ways, almost surely beyond that which he even realized. He was obviously skilled at the game but there are a couple contributions that particularly stand out for me. First, while he may not have been the first to discover how to move a volt goat herd, his YouTube video made that information accessible to the masses to the point of it being common knowledge. Second, his video on the Klaus fight was the singular source of mechanical information I used to solo him for the first time. There are countless other things myself and others have learned from him about DST, but for his family (who I hope are being directed to this thread), I would like to also pay tribute to him as a human, the person they dearly loved and can recognize in these posts when this community talks about how much they liked him as a person. There are many people skilled at this game, but few who also demonstrated the kindness, politeness, and patience that several people here have mentioned. Aside from that, i was always so impressed with how articulate he was. For the longest time, I thought it was due in large part because he was able to script the narration on his YouTube videos before he recorded his voice overs to avoid awkward pauses, frequent use of “uhh” and “umm”, and grammar mistakes. It wasn’t until much later when he started streaming that I realized and came to a have a greater appreciation of the fact that no, that is just how he spoke. It is always difficult to deal with the loss of a loved one, but to lose someone so young adds another layer of complexity and pain. I feel for his friends and family who are and will be grieving for him and reconciling their loss for a long time to come.
