Why it is in the game but not implemented on survival ?

It could be unimplemented for a number of reasons, some reasons such as, they couldn't figure out how to code it, they couldn't figure out how to fit it into the game, or they simply haven't finished yet.

Personally, I think they couldn't really find a way to implement the fishing net well, could you imagine if you could just catch multiple fish with the net for free? That'd make the fishing rod useless! But hey maybe they found another way to implement it and it'll be coming soon. No one really knows besides the devs themselves. I wouldn't count on the fishing net being added now since its been in the files since ToT came out.

It's supposed to be algae apparently? Atleast that's what they're named in the files.

Yea the animation to catch items are pretty unfinished. It's not for fishing, it works only with floating items. It can be wonderful addition to catch feathers, bottles, and all the stuff of broken ships.:encouragement:

Got it. So DST lore would be: some form of lichens got mutated by Nightmare Fuel into giant morphologies.

Spoiler

"..lichen is a composite organism that emerges from algae or cyanobacteria living among the filaments (hyphae) of the fungi in a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship."

Oh gosh, this would help so much with gathering salt crystals. I really hope this gets implemented.

Why aren't the unused shadow chesspiece tools in the game/ mentions of it removed from the code?

because that's how videogame design works

you work on A, then move on to B. then you make C a mechanic that relies on B and makes A redundant, but you either forgot about A or you kept it anyways because you might need it again later.

Why is there an option to disable Wigfrids umlauts? It just seems pointless

Because those letters, With those “Umlauts” above them have different meanings in different languages- and can be confusing to people.

They are there to add character to Wigfrids quotes, BUT if you knew more then one language.. those letters with “Dots above them” would have different meanings.

Also- Why is there animations for snow covered palm trees in Single Player DS but yet... there’s not a single palm tree to be found in DST? :(

Because... you could bring palm trees into an RoG world? Also, Shipwrecked was going for a tropical ocean vibe while DST is going for a rocky, dangerous ocean theme.
