It's been a while now, but i've been wondering how people interact with the multiplayer aspect of this game.

I personnaly can only play with a max of 3 people because of lag. I really enjoy playing in public servers though or go in a random server and help the host. It's really nice to be able to give support to someone else.

When i host a public server i have a griefer phobia and i tend to only allow 1 person in my server when i put it on public. It's a bit less worries for me. Sadly to often did i host a world where people would just sit at base or straight up burn it.

On this what are your toughts ? Share you stories or personnal preferences/experiences down below.

I, GetNerfedOn, used to have a dream, that I could make a server for any and all forumites to play on and have wholesome fun. Only @Canis, @Spaartan and @minespatch showed up (the former staying throughout the span of the server's lifetime and the latter two only for a short while) among other, non-forumite people, but that's okay, we had loads of fun.

When i go to pubs i usually play Wicker and help people (though i have problems as to where I should set up base). Then I attempt to raid ruins and fail, or stick in base spamming Applied Horticulture.

Otherwise, i mostly play alone to have fun. I'm not a good team player XD

I have a group of friends that I usually play with so we have to adapt our playstyle to support it. We usually always have a Webber for massive amounts of monster meat, a Woodie to rush the lunar island for stone fruits, and typically a Wormwood just for bonus recipes and to support a Warly.

I primarily play Maxwell and Warly so having a team is definitely good. Warly is a support character and really needs a team to shine. As Maxwell, besides gathering materials for the team, the only team related perk I usually have is a sanity station where I let other people get the last hit on nightmare creatures when I'm farming for nightmare fuel.

I find that public servers are where you can try playing a new character or interesting gimmicks. If they don't end up working out, who cares? The server will be reset in a matter of an hour or so. I definitely prefer to play with people I know, but I don't mind public servers at all.

I don't fear griefers all that much because the people who have been there the longest are always willing to start a vote if we need it, whether it be kicking someone or rolling back.

I can usually play until spring before I give up on the server and leave.

I generally like to play with friends, we have a team,we will use voice software to communicate, chat and joke,I like the feeling that voice communication will quickly let everyone know each other,In this way I also met some good people.when playing with friends, I prefer to play whatever I want.We are very tacit, and we use voice to communicate.

Sometimes I go to the public server for a while, mainly to help some newcomers,I like helping others,we can type and communicate,Sometimes a newcomer or friendly player will add me to steam.I like this friendly atmosphere. btw I still have photos of my team, we will take pictures when playing together XD.

Interesting thing to note- Klei Official And Dedicated servers still are not available on Xbox One, Maybe through not having them Klei is saving money somehow.

Which can be put into the development costs of additional gameplay content.

but servers on Xbox are ran through a Host player and when that host leaves the game or accidentally disconnects EVERYONE gets kicked out by default.

Griefing isn’t all that big of a deal to me because the host just rolls back to prior to the grief and bans the player responsible.

As for personal playing preferences I choose to play with a few significantly less skilled players than myself... so I have to edit the games settings to almost be “boring levels of easy” in order to enjoy playing the game with them.. which would include turning hound waves completely off, turning giants off, turning Summer off.. you get the idea.

I wish Klei would seriously spend a good bit of time in addressing making this game enjoyable for all player skill levels to still play in the same world together without people like ME being bored out of my mind and without challenge, and people like the ones I’m playing with not to feel even more discouraged by how much more difficult my world is.

To put it simply- When the people your playing with are starving to death but when you observe the items they drop and they have a stack of 30 Uncooked Birchnuts.. Those people don’t NEED 30 Hounds attacking them in a Hound Wave.

When I do join a server (As Webber), I have the tendency to do 3-4 things. 1.  Hoard every little thing I come across, even if it's useless. 2. Make a ton a farms and drying racks for no particular reason at all. 3. Spend lots of time running all over the map. 4. Forget what I'm doing in the first place. I do suck at communication. But I do like to help people if I can.

What I do is definitely niche, but the multiplayer experience is what fuels everything I play for.

I always host the same server I've been working on for a couple years when I can. I open it to either public or friends only when I can sit down for a longer session, but most of the time I'm working on the world solo little bits at a time. The thing is, I wouldn't have any motivation to play when I'm alone if the things I was working on weren't going to be shared with other players directly. The way the sandbox and multiplayer aspects work together is what I love most about this game.

When it comes to the greifer issue, I typically don't worry knowing I've got back ups of the world, but it really is annoying having to rollback everyone in the server's progress for a day or two. I totally understand why some people imprison the spawn portal, but I think griefers can be properly managed with good communication and some monitoring.

I love the sense of community the game brings to the table, especially when we're roughing it with a threadbare base with things scattered around, it feels like a nice wholesome survivalist camp.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of public players leave before Winter/during Winter. Either they don't have the time to play, or Winter is too boring, sitting by a fire all season, waiting for Tusks to respawn. :?

I always play on the 18-player servers. The more the merrier; also the more strain you put on carrying capacity, which makes it challenging and fun. Also, the unofficial servers have admins who permanently ban griefers, so if you have a griefer phobia, maybe you'd like playing on those servers instead of hosting your own.

I wasn't even aware that you guys regularly invite forumgoers to play.

Right now i don't really play with anybody like i used to in the past and its abit empty. Had a few friends to plan out a big server for us, ending in only me continuing it by myself because they got bored of it. It's kind of pointless for me now to continue it but it's still up. I don't visit pubs as much as i used to either.

Me and the wife always play together, I have one big map I played on my own but it just wasn't the same. To do everything I wanted to do meant every day had to be preplanned down to the minute (and this was before RoT updates). It was satisfying on a certain level, but not as fun as when I play with her.

We talk about jumping in with other people all the time, but we have a 3 year old with some developmental issues so we can't really ever commit to online play with others.

We have a world we put together with plans of opening it up to the DST PS4 community, but between time constraints and some pretty gnarly lag (day 1000+) we just haven't done it.

I like playing mostly by myself, but I have one other person I like playing a lot with just the two of us with Discord voice chat. We don't play with Caves on so we don't get that much lag. Sometimes I go into servers (mainly the Diverse Survivors discord servers) and play there, but not very often because of lag issues and feeling shy. I feel like if there's more than three players total it gets too hectic, but again, I'm used to few people playing at once.

I don't have good internet, DST is way too time-consuming and I don't have anyone to play with, so I usually play alone

I kinda want to change that though, I want to play with people sometime, it's just been a bit hard since everyone loves playing with mods, and i'm not really too keen on the mod-life

I told you I was pretty busy... But hey! I can play again now. Just ping me up when you wanna play again :)))

I don't think you should give up on that dream, because I would like to see it fulfilled. My times soloing a boss (which happens rarely) will never compare to dying stupidly with others.
