They made something even worse than the save game lock up. How to fix?

This is getting very annoying.  Before, the game would lock up, which is a pain but now when the end of cycle save lock up happens, if you were in the middle of a command, it drags that command all over the map.

 

Here I gave a single dig command at the bottom right of the map:

I disabled the composite screen shot thingy as someone said that was the cause but it is still doing it.

 

Anyone have a fix?

Happens every time if you are giving commands.  Nothing happens if just watching.  It is doing something to the commands because if you have a priority tab selected, it is deselected during the hiccup 

I have had this happen since day one. I've become used to sensing the lock-up and holding off finishing any action in progress, until the game resumes and I can make sure it executes as I want. But it still periodically screws me up. I suppose if you immediately load the autosave it probably has the effect of undoing the bad command but since save/load disrupts dupe activities it's not without cost to do so.

I don't remember the devs claiming this as a "feature" on any of the update posts. I could have missed it however; I'm not sure what name some one would coin this.  Perhaps "user action prediction" durring saves? Maybe the game predicted I was going to build weird through my entire base :)

See those double quotes surrounding the word "feature"? I was being sarcastic. Of course it's a bug, and a new one too. It wasn't there back in QoL builds.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it shouldn't have to. Not to jump on you for offering help, that's great. But there are a number of flaws and deficiencies in the basic operations of ONI, and having mods to work around them shouldn't remove focus on those problems that the devs should address. Love Klei, love ONI, but to the team: please, please don't leave any buggy or sloppy or weak or incomplete implementation just because someone was kind enough to work up a mod that helps people out.

I trust Klei not to do this, it's why I leaped on early access for ONI as soon as I could. They are a killer team. But there's a lot of "have problem x? install mod y!" that goes on in this forum and helpful as that can be it leaves me nervous that it could encourage a "why bother" attitude to some of these problems, since resources could be focused elsewhere and are always limited. But a lot of people, myself included, don't use mods. Gasp, I know, but it comes from me wanting to monitor the base state of ONI especially before release. Other people will be purists, or not want the technical issues of mod conflicts or problems when the base game is updated, or just never go to the trouble of installing them, or whatever. My point is mods should add to a solid core, not fix problems because the core isn't solid. I hope that's where we end up.

I find that hitting the right button to cancel my action as soon as it freezes prevents stuff from being dragged all over the map. A lot of my sensitive building happens in pause mode anyway cos I wanna take my time, but the right button has not failed me so far

This has happened forever, it's why I was so enthusiastic about not putting ladders on tiles in a recent patch.

It's not new. It's been around for ages.  Cancel everything near the save.

It used to be a thing only during the autosaving, but post launch it happens all the damn time with every tool. "Ghost" building is at an all-time high as well. Even with the game paused.

I thought it was maybe just me and something recently wrong with my computer, but I think this confirms it as a much broader problem..

This is caused by the feature that fills the gaps when you lay pipe too quickly. It can be trivially fixed by limiting the buffer to 5-10 tiles since if you're lagging more than that, you have bigger problems.

the problem with reloading is you have to exit the game, load the game, then the save.  But yes, that is what I did on above one.  Deconstruct is bad if you do not notice.  I lost an entire 20,000 kg NG storage tank when I thought I cancelled everything but missed some.

It used to lock-up before, but if you did not move your mouse, all was good.  Now it seems to copy the command all over even with no mouse movement at all.

it feels like the map moves very briefly during the autosave. The current thought I'm entertaining is that it might be related to the screenshot that's being made/saved in that moment? But I'm not sure at all and also am not very deep in the code so I'm just taking shots into the dark

Someone mentioned that one reddit so I turned it off via game menu.  No effect.  It still seems to have the screen shots anyway.  Any mod out there to kill it completely?

Ah yes "madness spawn" i call it. It made 3x2 picture frames on all my map - i cancel most of them but i'm still finding some weird picture in random places lol. Funny thing is that it completely disobey size of picture so i had 6 pictures on 3x2 sie all start on different tile. It would be great if this can be removed as i do not build stuff on live game x3 anymore - always pause the game - beacuse of this.
