Questions for Developers

Recommended Posts

How much time you are wasting in fixing and creating new bugs currently? Like %50 or more?  You are working on this game over 4 years with major addtions and deletions so i quess source code is a mess right now.

Don't you think it is time to close this deal and work on ONI 2?  Maybe add co-op play and a real single-player in that?

I know codding a little and in a game this complicated with extreme programming method will hit a wall unless you made an amazing unit test , user test and real time test stages.Don't know what are you doing in that part but currently all patches become  "FIX"...bla bla , "RENAMED" .. bla bla, "UPDATED" ... bla bla..

Sometimes it is better to start a clean slate then trying to FIX bla bla.

The game isn't even released, still under developpement, and there's still lot of ideas/concepts for DLCs, extensions, and so on. I don't get at all why you're talking about ONI 2, or starting any new project based on the same concept already.

By the way, it's been a long time since someone talked about multiplayer. I was missing it a bit.

(I truely think we don't share the same vision of a game, nor the same preference/balance of quality over quantity.)

The last word : I have to disagree on everything. I want them to fix all known bugs, to add new content again and again on the same game, why not a story mode but optionally and over a second (third) phase, and to completely forget about any waste of time on multiplayer.

Look guys i just know codding and looking it from a developers side.  I maybe new and maybe the worst developer in the world but that does not make what i write is wrong or absolute truth.

If you never wrote a code that is over 1000 lines (which is a very very very small project) you can never understand that side of the story. For example you can never make a bug free game especially an ONI like game. Every time you touch the code something else will break. So forget a bug free game,  you can never have that if the game is constantly changing.

If you look at this from company policies, working in a single game  with free dlcs over 8 years does not  make sense either.  Don't get me wrong i would never buy this game if it was like SIMS in dlc part. But you should agree that after a while game would stop selling new copies and even the worst programmer in the world gets 1000$ a month.

You guys just need to see the other side of the things.

So what is your point? It seems like you are unreasonably agressive towards an unfinished product in your first post and now you claim it`s impossible to have it perfect.

Are you legit asking how much time they spend on fixing things or what do you actually mean?

I hope your codes are better than your grammar.

They can make a better  second game with solid goals and wisdom from the first game .

Right now it fells like they are just playing with clay too long and it is getting dirty in the process. I am just saying it is time to use the oven.

So you mean thay should just stop developing a game 5 days before release and start a new project? I don`t think it`s a popular opinion.

I`m also sure they keep the experiences. This is not their first game and there are surely more to come. Who knows what inspirations for new games came out of developing this one.

Please keep it respectful. You don't know his coding skills, no one does except him. By the way not everyone is native english speaker, trust me I know what I'm talking about.

I'm looking forward to ear your skills in French ;)

J'ai rien à prouver à un lama.

Jokes and guessing-work on their coding skills aside, it is clear to anyone who's ever seen a fan community for a video game that giving up on a game and just making a sequel while leaving the previous one full of bugs is never the thing to do if you want your studio to be successful. There are lots of games available, with tons of them very good. If a studio has betrayed the trust of its fans, they have plenty of other games they can try instead, never having to look back. Which means OP's suggestion is not a wise one.

Je nais parle par l'francais?

My writing is ****e, and my speaking is fluent in that one sentence.

That sentence will help you in France to... feel alone. French people are so bad in foreign languages ^^

That's the plan with Mars. We want to stablish there to not fix bla bla. Pretty reasonable. I agree.

The Mars colonization have learned for the mistakes on Earth. This time we are doing it without global warming.
