I like too much the lobotomy skin theory to imagine something else. It gives some strange vibes, and there is a freaking "massage" chair datamined in Hamlet that I like to think fitted for Woodie :wilson_hurt:

Image result for woody lobotomy dont starve

This picture alone makes me want to cry

also the chair is actually in the game, not just datamined.

It's the ghost of Lucille Ball trapped within a beautiful crimson axe to assist her husband even in the afterlife.

This poll was created to discuss the lore beyond the red axe.

We all know that Woodie can talk to Lucy and it talks back to him, but what about other characters?

And where did this axe came from? Was it a real person? Was it created by the Shaddow King?

Maxwell knows her and even axes her a question. :wilson_cool:

Plus, everyone can "hear" her. I don't think we would be able to see her text if it was only in Woodie's head.

Personally, my idea for a origin for Lucy would be none at all. I always thought it would come off more comedically if Woodie just has had Lucy for so long he can't actually remember when they first met much to Lucy's chargin, just knowing that it was completely unrelated to Maxwell or Them. Then I'd imagine they'd proceed to bicker like they're an old married couple. Plus I also think its a funny idea to imagine the survivors asking Woodie how he inherited the wearbeaver curse, causing him to go through a long story and possibly detailed explanation on it, but then the answer to whats up with Lucy is just "What about Lucy?", as if he doesn't think there is any real big story to tell or anything that out of the ordinary about her. But that's just my view on it.

I'm also even a bit indecisive on whether I would like Wearbeaver to have a origin either. I just like the idea of no explanation at all for Woodie's powers I guess.

Oh, I posted that!

And it wasn't Datamined, it's actually in the game itself.
I posted pictures of it in some of my houses.

In DST the "essence" of lucy can possess new axes whenever woodie uses them, so whatever it is, it's definately not bound to a single material "body".

I think it's either a spirit that haunts woodie (like the option in the poll) or a shadow creature/supernatural being from the constant, based of how Mr skits can possess obelisks. Particularly in the axe I don't think its Mr Skits, maybe Lucy's creature is indeed called "lucy" and is always bound to woodie since it actually cares for him.

I don't know what or who Lucy is, I just hope there isn't a tragic story behind her and Woodie

*Cries in Willow, in Wendy, in Maxwell, in Charlie, in Wortox, in Winona, in Webber depending on your sensibility about being eaten alive by a spider and in Wilson for all the weird ships he is involved into*

It'd be nice if Lucy was a wife who became a literal cargo ship for woodie.

Took me too much time and still I don't get exactly what you meant :D

Along with Woodie's beard not being made of hair which excused why it didn't used to give him any cold protection, I think Klei just took some liberties when porting Woodie into DST, and forgot some aspects of his character.

I don't think Lucy actually talks, but I think Woodie probably has some good reason to believe that she does, like someone being turned into the Axe.

But then Klei kinda just threw that idea out the window and made other players able to hear her. Oh well.

Kevin Forbes (the lead developer), when asked in the Klei forums if Woodie was crazy or not, said: "Other than the whole talks to his axe like it's a person thing, he's a pretty normal guy."

Woodie isn't crazy otherwise he be insane in-game, it also kind of implies that "Lucy" was created (not a wife being trapped)
