How Many Dupes? Do You Kill?

I’m just curious how many dupes do you prefer to keep at base early game, mid game and late game?

Im 6,7, mid game so far, haven’t really touched surface or magma.

Same. I’ll go back several cycles if I need to.

Quantity though I usually try and take someone each time unless all choices are bad up till around 20 then only take on great dupes like high stats and small bladder/divers lungs. 

Depends how good or bad the geysers are. Where is the fun if you are not stressing the system a little. 

Balancing everything out is pretty nice.

If you only ever take on 5-10 dupes you dont have to worry about anything unless everyone got sick. 

I tend to keep arounf 12 dupes. If one dies (what doesn`t happen too often) i print a new one.  Generally i prefer to keep them all alive. The dupe amount early depends on the layout of the base i use. How many will fit and how many can i sustain. Later in the game i don`t print more and just rely on the experienced ones i got. Sometimes i print a few extra ones when i use up one of the starting water reservoirs and gain extra room that way.

The majority of my time is spent with 35 duplicants. But my last base was very stable with excess food and water, so I’m adding more. I’m up to low-40’s right now.

I consider the number of duplicants to be my difficulty setting. The more I have, the more difficult (in a good and challenging way) it is to sustain the system.

straight up to 20 dupes. Dismiss some, if none of the 3 is useful. 20 is pretty well to handle. And yes occasionally someone dies. Most of the time, because i made a mistake and they suffer/burn to death, because i cant get them out in time. But that happens rarely.

I feel the same. I enjoying thinking more than surviving. today i printed some extra dupes, and they ended up being idle.

My dupes don't die anymore except I AFK for a while when I don't have exosuits yet.

Dupe count is weird for me. In the early game you want a bunch, around 8 pretty quickly but that is usually the first point where I start delaying dupe prints and start to be picky. I usually slowly add another 8.

Then there is the midgame where you expand/explore/dig/build a lot. 16 dupes is super fine for the early game, where everything is near and the work you give them is focussed. And in the late game as well, where there is much less digging/building etc. And the dupes are much faster at anything. But the midgame is where you actually want a high number of them, like 32ish or so.

Is there anyway to "let go" dupes? That doesn't included locking them in my chlorine food storage and letting them uhm,.. eat themselves to death (sound better than the alternative), or do black magic that would allow me to melt them, after all they came from the printing pod and back into the goo they go..

Well... I accept dupes. Then I set their consumables so they can't eat anything and I get free labor for a couple of days. So I guess my deathcount is pretty high.

My keepers though, I am very protective of those. I keep a close watch on any notifications of idle, because it might mean one of them is trapped. I don't let them die.

I try to keep the dupe population at 8. Unfortunately, I have a tendency to accept dupes that I hadn't planned to, because they're too good. I mean, an Abe with 8 learning, how can I pass that up? A bubbles with diver's lung AND germ resistant? Come here girl.

I got a lot of lag lately though, after I hit 14 dupes. I fear the only solution is a culling...
