Summer or winter?

(This is only about summer and winter on the surface, not caves.)

(Note: This post dosen't mention the amazing things like no heat during summer in caves, klaus , other good items you can get)

Winter can be more exciting for me when in a new world and you don't have much, but in late game for me its kinda boring. Mostly because it feels long (just as it is in real life) and most importantly, the snow that prevents perfect building. But in winter you can still get really useful items like the cane, deerclops eye (you have to earn this) and the amazing filler that is ice.

~Feels long (this is a good and bad thing, even if it is 15 days and not 20)

~Snow (turf placement tbh)

~Good loot (Cane, Eyebrella, Meatballs (Ice))

~Nice music (All music in the game is good tbh)

 

Summer also can be fun, but most of the times if you don't kill antlion you have to feed him (her?), I usually don't kill the antlion cause I'm bad. But this like this for me because I usually camp in caves so I don't make a great oasis summer base. It's more fun when you have more things to do in the oasis instead of just fishing for eternal trinkets. There isn't also many loot you can get from summer, we have sandstones which aren't really useful when solo but that's just for me,  you can get lots of trinkets which I usually give most duplicates to the pig king and its a nice reward for fishing for like 15 days. As for summer when antlion is dead, mostly just surviving from heat.

~Kinda long, but not (it does feel long when you're only fishing, but if you kill antlion it does definitely feel shorter)

~No snow (best turf placement season)

~Lots of gold (this pretty much answers itself)

~Nice music (Same as I wrote with winter)

 

Overall Summer and winter are both fun in their own way, I'm sure some of you like Winter, and some like Summer. I personally prefer summer, it's my favorite season (IRL too) and I can get gold from it (since I make a lot of gold tools).

In Winter you get Tam O', Cane, Deer Eye, Reverse-Santa madness, ice as easy filler (provided you spawn Pengs close to base).

In Summer you get... to kick Antlion in the nutt-pouch?! (teleporter is handy if you play with friends) Ok, free rock (and some flints) if you cave-base and leave the (now enraged) nutt-pouch alone. Oasis' [not so] free trinkets! (well maybe first summer, fishing's not really my cup of tea) Also easy time in Ruins if you take your time leisurely.

Are you a fan of bloomed cacti? Me neither.

Depends what we're talking.

In singleplayer thermal stone holds NO HEAT! You can stand next to a campfire have it orange but the moment you're outside it's heat range thermal stone turns yellow. I actually have seen MULTIPLE TIMES thermal stone turning yellow from orange while sitting ext to a burning campfire. I hate that. In ds in winter I always waste so much fuel. I also have a feeling that you lose temperature faster. Unless I wear beefalo hat I always hear "YOU'RE FREEZING" noise everytime I leave some heat source. Summer on the other hand is easy because you can make a base in desert/rocky biome/ cave and just cool yourself with luxury fan. In flingo's range you can build everything you need: 3 crockpoots, 5 drying racks, pig house, bunnyman hutch, plant 10 grass, twings, beeries, plant trees. 

In multiplayer I also prefer summer because i can explore caves, farm shelmets, visit ruins and kill Toadstool. Yeah sure Klaus is cool and all but... I prefer summer (also the work music is lit)

as a wilson main i prefer winter because of wilsons beard and having no thermal stone is not a threat since the nights are long and i have to start my fire as for ice i havent used my ice in a veeeery long time i use sticks for my dragon pies and i get most of my food and sanity from my bunnyman farm
but summer on the other hand is just a waste of nitre there are earth quakes you heat incredibly fast day is too long = less bunnyman meat and less carrots = birds not eating meat = no eggs = no pierogi and the fact you cant gain tons of sanity in summer with the overworld stalker since the nights are short

yes the summer music is nice but the winter themes are more relaxed and layed back and it makes wanna go to heaven (your bed)

I accidentally clicked Summer and I can't change my vote.

Summer just doesn't have anything exclusive to it to really do. Antlion is pretty much the only thing and even then it's easier most of the time to just ignore it.

Winter hands down, I absolutely hate summer. The heat is awful, with everything burning around me, having to refuel fling-o-matics, worrying about Antlion destroying everything (though this is my fault, since I don't waste time going to him) with sinkholes, plants shriveling up pathetically. It's a literal hell. Winter looks very nice and calm, and brings a ton of good loot. I just have to worry about carrying a thermal stone, not my base turning into ash.

I dont remember the last time I stayed in a server after winter. Everything after winter just gets boring for me.

Winter has everything I need:

-The Purge: Day of killing Beefalo, usually the 21th because Im 2 busy cleaning every single part of the ruins and killing Dragonfly and Beequeen

-Two bosses: My favourite part of the game is having an obvious objective always in mind, which is killing bosses. Winter has one of the best bosses in the game, Deerclops Klaus. And well before leaving the server I get to destroy Deerclops which is always fun to do.

-Actually nothing else.

Summer got annoying for me since I always rush the ruins in the early days and that forces me to reset them by summer... and im lazy and stuff.

Klaus is fun and Clops has good loot, tams and canes, food spoils slow, ice respawns quickly (pengulls make it everywhere), and thermal stone light is awesome - I practically never have to gather bulbs over winter. That in comparison to fishing (until you get goggles), killing Antlion (nothing against the fight, but there's no chance of good loot and you only need one blueprint), faster food spoilage (on the surface), then either fuelling flingos with random wild fires, or finding a way to entertain yourself in the caves for the remainder of the season. I also find it more tedious to stay cool on the surface over summer than burn a random tree over winter. That's my perspective of it at least.

The ambient sounds in winter are also pretty cool and you really notice them when you're walking around at night with thermal light, it's atmospheric.

I chose winter for the reasons already stated above by most: better loot, more things to do.
Although OP clarified that caves were not part of the question, the only thing I like about summer is that its a great season to clear the ruins. The cave ins also come in handy as free walls mobs can't pass through.

But seriously--I don't recall having that problem with the thermal stones...I gotta go with winter though 'cos summer is not only AWFUL temperature-wise for you, but it _also_ has the potential to burn everything down!  Snow doesn't cause forest fires or destroy your base.  (Usually.  Unless we're talking some obscure definition of the word "snow" I was previously unaware of.)                                                                         

Also since it's summer in real life right now and even though the season proper has only just started it's areadly 95 DEGREES FOR THREE DAYS IN A ROW (the high, I mean, not the whole 24 hours--also Fahrenheit!), I'm...not feeling too fond of real-life summer at the moment either.  I mean, you can always put more clothes _on_.  But you can only take so much off...

The summer battle music is teh shiz, though.

I personally love winter since, as a Wx main, getting to completely ignore insulation from overcharge is just too fun. I don't get that leisure in the summer. Winter has a lot more to offer, Klaus being one of the more fun boss fights with interesting drops that almost everyone in a group gets rewarded with (I love to use the dice roll to decide what order people grab a bundle.)

Normally I base in the Oasis, so having to deal with sandstorms and the heat every time kinda interrupts the flow of my playstyle, so I'll typically kill Antlion then retreat to the ruins. I hate having to make/maintain fling-o's, so I kinda just accept the slight inconvenience of the sandstorm in favor of getting to build things willy-nilly.

I like winter more because it's less annoying to maintain non damaging temperature, but both seasons (and spring to a slightly lesser degree) are the reason I could never recommend this game to another person.

Summer because Winter's snow bothers my eyes with how bright it can be in a dimly lit room. Summer is harder than Winter, but Winter comes first and the urgency of Winter preparations feels like a chore.

How is summer the best season to be placing turf? You can place it in any season other than winter, so this isn't a boon for it in any way. I find autumn is the best time to do that kind of stuff, because all turf can just burst in flames if kept unchecked.

Winter by a long shot. You get blueprints for Lazy Deserter, get a bunch of desert stones and that's that. Loot you get during winter gives much more reasons to like and anticipate the next one, while Summer you just can't wait to be gone after you get the blueprints. Best time to go into caves though, but that's essentially like when it's autumn, so again, no real benefit.

Personally, I prefer Summer.

 

Winter, as said previously, just feels long to me (that is, when I'm playing alone; flies by faster with friends).  When I first started playing, I thought Winter was challenging and exciting.  It isn't as charming as it was back then, and doesn't pose as much a challenge.  Summer makes it a lot harder to maintain your base, and find food considering most vegetation starts shriveling up.

I just like to be challenged, and I don't really get that anymore with Winter.
