Missed Opportunity with Forge Items

Recommended Posts

So, I thought the whole point of the Forge was to experiment with DST in a way that doesn't affect the core game.

Cool.

So you did the experiment...Now add it to the game. No?

I just hate the fact that Klei only used the Forge items to just make skins.

Surely, the Living Staff could have been an incredible addition to the game, as well as other items.

The Forge was a fun event that added a lot of canon lore to the game, not just skins.

I don't think the point of the Forge was to experiment with DST in the way of adding new things to the core game - there are a lot of mechanics in there that only really make sense and are balanced for an event like the Forge. (Imagine balancing even the Living Staff...)

I'd personally keep the Forge and the game just as they are right now.

Spoiler

My pipe dream is to have the Forge as an always available gamemode unlockable when you beat the Ancient Fuelweaver (lore-wise it makes sense!).

The skins was the only reason I played the forge, I only played to get skins because they are so important for me. Also the game is just fine the way it is, I think all we need is more skins to be added for events like valtines, winter feast, and event skins

iirc the "point" of the Forge was to do unique creative things that couldn't be done in the base game lest they ruin the balancing & systems already in place. It was separate so it didn't disrupt the base content.

Now for clarification if I'm not mistaken the OP is referring to a comment made by a dev, which my own post is speaking of.

I've always had the feeling that we would see some content in the upcoming Hamlet DLC that would tie in with The Forge. Perhaps we could see the items in use there.

I'd love to see non-armored versions of the Forge mobs show up in Hamlet. They'd all fit the jungle theme pretty well.

I see the forge the same way I see Ovewatch Junkenstein's revenge, it's an event that will come and go and I don't think there is anything wrong with that >.>

I also think the "hiatus" between having the same event again is good so things will keep fresh in a way (Klei do kno da way)

I'm not speaking on behalf of Klei so I may be misinformed but the way I understood it, the Forge was the prototype for future sustainable events. Refer to: The Forge has Ended Thread

If we really think about it, through The Forge they were able to build an event system from the ground up:

  • adding new mechanics (player levels and level ups, rewards, character skills, buffs, abilities, etc.)
  • adding new creatures (monsters with unique behaviors from each other)
  • adding leaderboards which requires collecting and properly organizing and then displaying all the data (see The Forge Stats)
  • adding event specific quests
  • revamped the previously called Inventory into the Item Collection which an entirely new Menu.
  • adding the simplest Cash Shop for event skins if you really want to have them.
  • improving the player profile (portrait frames, profile icons) which is already in-game in vanilla DST. (to see, examine other players or yourself)
  • adding drop bundles (classic, winter feast, pugna's chest, etc.)
  • adding spools as event currency
  • etc.

There are probably a whole lot more that should be on that list, but these are the only ones off the top of my head.

Ultimately, amassing all that knowledge and aiming for better events in the future, I think The Forge was a success. Despite some issues that arose during the event, I'm sure the devs have learned from them and that in itself will make succeeding events even better. They've probably also optimized a whole lot of the inner workings of DST that will improve future events.

What was learned from The Forge will the groundwork of the next future events.

The forge is clearly planned to reopen. We still can see forge stuff in the belongings part of curio cabinet. we'll be able to play it again. So the integration of the forge in DST would be useless - this kind of game is good as an annual event (with new monsters and accomplishments every year).but quite boring if always accessible. And i think that forge items are for the most part useless in DST.

V2C once mentioned on a stream that the pvp aspect of the game is "not so good", that they were aware of it and had plans to eventually make changes.

With these new events we may eventually get a forge-like type of pvp event, which would probably make more sense to keep all year round if you want to play that way.

PVP in th current PVE type of game is kinda weird, and balancing the characters for it is what damaged some characters like woodie in first place. If we had both things separated in a way, perhaps character balancing would be easier.

On a side note I do think some things of the forge should come to the base game, things like the staves animated missile effects won't damage balance in any way.

I thought that they did a pretty wonderful job with character balancing/traits in the Forge. Would really like to see some of that brought over to normal DST.

Webber was trash...

Bottom of the list, bottom of the list, bottom for the list

I've played Woodie exclusively in Forge, however I seem to have been playing inadequately. I feel that playing my favourite character made me not reach my fullest potential as that character limited me from using my skills to the fullest extent. And so I conclude that Woodie was rubbish and it's not my fault that my teams keep losing because of me. If Woodie was not rubbish, then everybody would've realised how great of a player I am. Smh lol Sigh...

Woodie is bad because he's bottom in the list:

justin

all you talk about is webber

were talking about what the forge did right and wrong and all you contributed was "webber was trash"

and as we keep telling you, he was in fact, not trash, he was actually the best darts dps in the game able to amass extreme amounts of damage, especially if paired with a wigfrid

so please, TALK ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE OTHER THAN SPIDER BOY

Some of them fit in SW better, some Hamlet, however none really fit in the normal world
