Not the character, I'm hyped as hell for the new character; but how she was announced seemed very lacklustre. We've been grasping at straws with leaks and ****posts for months. I was hoping we'd get at least a teaser or even an official announcement post on the forums but... I didn't expect to see the latest DST character be announced on twitter to help promote the Xbox version. Kinda feels like we got the shaft a bit. Maybe I'm overthinking this. Its just a character. It's not like we haven't had an entirely new character for Don't Starve in ACTUAL YEARS! Ah well, its over now. Shes announced! Hell yes. I just hope its not a time exclusive thing, like some other games do. Other things that are also possible: Klei meant to introduce her earlier, at the end of ANR, but ran into tech problems they couldn't fix until now. They made some deal with X-Box to stir up enthusiasm for the new release, as the Rose skins were a sweetener for the deal with Tencent. They want to add something new, if on the small side, occasionally, to keep up enthusiasm for DST. TBH, I probably would barely have noticed the X Box release since I am a PC player, Â but since it comes with a new character, I'm a lot more aware of it, should a friend with an X Box ask me if DST is available on that platform. Lumina Posted September 9, 2017 Share Posted September 9, 2017 Other possibility, it was planned to release her with XBox release of DST, but they didn't have time before to put clues and puzzle and others mysteries to solve before, because of lack of time/pax/too much work focused on release/people that work on puzzle weren't ready, or whatever reason like this. Also, maybe with the hype and disappointment about metheus and winona's leak, they didn't wanted to make puzzle or other stuff that would lead to too much hype and disappointment again, and they choosed to keep it simple rather than having player with too big expectations. Â Anyway, i'm not disappointed, but i'm not one of the players that love puzzles and mysteries and stuff like this, so i'm not the target of them. For me it's ok to have an annoucment like they did, since i didn't expected something new soon. They could of done some sick comic or a little teaser (not another full fledged arg since we just had one). The announcement we got is perfectly fine, its just that I feel we could of gotten something more ~extravagant~ to build up hype. Ah well! But yeah, I perfectly understand releasing her along side the Xbox release to help draw in attention to it. "NEW CHARACTER!" Would be a pretty good selling point for people looking to enter the series. "Oh sick a new character! I mean with the long radio silence we had , this could be a good way to start up with new content/puzzel/annoncment/lore or whatever . It just seems unlikely that they will be like - here a new character ....... aaand now back to radio silence . To repeat something from a post I did early - I especially like the "there may be more to her arrival than it appears" part ! Just be cautious not to get your hype too high after all we don't know anything for sure . It's just my guess . Her entire speech files were leaked in around the start of April, then the Metheus puzzle hinted to her and the date for her again months later. Then half a year passes, and they reveal that she's coming out on the 13th of september. Now, now I know the community hates it when any body disputes how masterful Klei is at puzzles. But when you hint to something multiple times, then go silent for half a year, then release the thing you hinted about; those hints are completely worthless. Because not only is all the hype you started dead by now, but hinting to a specific date doesn't serve any purpose when you wait so long to release it that people have actually forgot about that date. They completely ruined all the hype and the entire point of the hints at all by releasing it so long afterwards that all the build up was not actually relevant or existent anymore.  Only suggestion to there being more content then just Winona is the new fire and electricity sounds that were added a while back but never used. Although in general it would be strange for them to release a new character, and just a new character. That's the kind of thing you do for arena games and such which are mostly about characters, releasing such a specific piece of content solo in any other situation is very awkward. Could go farther to point out if Winona came through the Atrium portal then it would be logical that they would release the beyond the Atrium portal content at the same time, but am kind of sick of theoretical hype at this point.
