Reminds me of a mod that I almost made at some point:

Green peppers would appear in all seasons, while in summer you could get the extra useful, extra-spicy red ones.

Me want eat all

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We need a new Summer boss. Why did you do this to Her klei, WHY? We loved her Polar Opposite the Deerclops, now we want the Fire Spitter to come back!

Maybe a Giant Larve? Adorable, but Hurts (Like the Koalefant!) :wilson_love:

I'm guessing the main reason Dragonfly was turned from a seasonal boss who gets up close 'n' personal with you every summer, to an optional but way stronger raid boss, is the same main reason they nerfed Willow:

Burning a base made by MULTIPLE people feels worse than burning a singleplayer base, and people probably would've complained the same way.  (If they didn't already.  However, I get the feeling Dragonfly's change was preemptive--once they saw how original-flavour Willow went down, Klei was like "Aw HELL nah, we gotta change this other fiery thing too!")

So, yeah...there's a reason Dragonfly is the way she is in multiplayer.  :\

I mean.

Deerclops is practically the same. The end result is still a trashed base (without annoying fire spread) and you get a little less than 2 seasons to prepare compared to DF which would appear in summer.

For beginner players it doesn't matter how the base is trashed becuase in the end its still trashed despite the means.

Well...smashing smashes just those particular things.  ONE tiny spark of fire in summer at the wrong place--any place in your whole camp at all--ONE spark and if you don't have a fling-o-matic or ice chunks or whatever ready, EVERYTHING go bye-bye.  Everything.  Structures _and_ plants, which the Deerclops doesn't care about.  (Bearger can knock over plants with his stomp, but he doesn't DESTROY your berry bushes.  You just need to replant and fertilize them.) True, it's not as fast as it is in singleplayer (which is freaking instantaneous...I wish we could have just a _second_ of smouldering in regular Don't Starve, at least...) but it is pretty fast.

Don't get me wrong, I hate Deerclops too, but I can see where Dragonfly...while she might not actually BE that much worse...would generate waaaayyyy more complaints.  The whiniest wheel sometimes gets the grease and that's why the Dragonfly now rules over one realm of fire in the desert, and why Willow now freezes when insane.

And also, if it's something even experienced players have trouble with if they didn't prepare properly...whaddya think is gonna happen when you throw NOOBS into the mix?  "Follow me!  Get away from camp!"  "Why?"  BURN/STOMP/EAT.  You don't always have time to explain in detail...and sometimes they don't even listen anyway, as with my story of Dumbarse and Jerkface from a while back...

"DO NOT FIGHT FIRE HOUNDS IN BASE! THEY'LL BURN EVERYTHING DOWN!"

(idiot  just stands there)

...yeah.

I'd say not quite. You either run elsewhere when you hear the announcing moans and then use mobs or traps to dispatch it (if not leaving it there altogether) or run away as well, then aggro it as soon as it spawns - then it's a matter of hit, run, hit, run and dealing with insanity. The dragonfly has the only AoE attack which spreads beyond a given area, because fires start fast - even in DST - and then consume everything as long as they have fuel, therefore you can't at least run out of your base, because there typically still are flammable entities around.

Dragon Fly also has the ability to consume vast amounts of resources, not just the base, when it's mobile: whole forests, pig villages, etc. It's one thing to trash that much of the map when you're the only one on it, but a whole other matter when you're sharing it.

This is one of the main reasons why I am kind of disappointed with "A New Reign". It's not that I don't think the new content is good and I'm having fun with it, but ever since they announced content updates for DST I was really looking forward to new things that are actual threats and that players need to prepare for and defend against and things that happen or spread in the world over long periods of time, but all we got so far is completely optional bosses.

Generally a bunch of things that were added also seem like they're a bit unfinished, canaries for example. They're completely unnecessary the way they are right now because toadstool respawns after exactly 20 days anyway and players can use ocuvigils to see if he respawned, so in their current state they're just a way to grind for yellow feathers that aren't really used a lot anyway.

Toadstool's spawning mechanic is gonna change in the future... It's not going to be as easy as it is now... Klei confirmed that in a community streaming :)

Ex-actly!  That's pretty much what I was trying to say, only worded better.  : P

Ditto. Similarly the dreaded disease is a worthy form of punishment of people digging up all berrybushes etc. to replant them in their base, because such mechanics change too much for too many players. The whole point of the multiplayer dragonfly ceasing pursuit after you run far enough from her badlands setpiece seems to aim at avoiding setting all of the world on fire.

I actually remember that stream but it seems like they decided to keep the mechanic we have now since they probably would've done that before releasing toadstool to the main branch rather than months later out of nowhere.

They also relatively recently mentioned one of the last updates being about caves. Including dealing with the ancient guardian. So it's entirely possibly this update will include this toadstool stuff, but who knows.

So, back to the Dragonfly.
It would be cool if she would wander off desert, just fly around whole map when summer hits, so you can accidentaly meet her and get roasted. It would make the fight easier tho, since there won't be any magma pools. But maybe she would just fly away when hurt, dropping scale(s). Or make her enrage, I don't really know. But wandering Dragonfly could be nice.

I think that's wonderful idea. Roaming Dragonfly should not be able to spawn larvae tho., but I think it could make her a bit too weak so some kind of rework would be required.

sorry for replying so late I'm not checking the forums very often atm
Yeah but I'm still doubting that they'll change toadstool I mean why leave in a spawn mechanic that you don't like for months instead of changing it after adding the creature to the game.
