I want to see chester skins for DST¡¡, don't you??

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone¡¡

I'm thinking about, if Chester have skins like the backpacks, torches and other stuff in Don't Starve?? i think that can be amazing¡¡ i mean if the backpacks have one like other mobs of the game why not to see a kind of... Boss-themes skin for Chester or a kind of spider Chester (and the alternative version of Chester)  or like a wormhole, dudes (if someone is reading this) this can be awesome, right?? i want to read our opinions and ideas for chesters skins, and i really hope that the developers read this and consider this idea.

P.D: Sorry if my english are not the best and some parts are not congruent or have gramatical errors, but i don't mastered the lenguage yet.

I think we should stick with item skins. Skinning whole mobs like Chester seems a bit hard on the devs. How would we even skin them? It's not like Chester is in our crafting menu to choose a skin for.

This is probably the best point for any thread talking about mob skins.

It changes skin when you carry the eyebone.

But yeah, it seems rather pointless.

Make the eyebone craftable via 1 eyebone. Then you can change the skin of the eyebone. All that would be left is to code it to load different assets for a chester depending on the eyebone. More than definitely possible.

Is it worth it? Well I'm not about to say no because I want Abigail skins and it's nearly the same dealio. Of course I'm just the guy that will be sitting here doing nothing while those at Klei would actually be doing the work. So what do I know?

Maybe seasonal Chesters would be cool. Maybe when a season rolls around, like Christmas, you would see Chester covered in Christmas lights.

But I agree on the subject matter that it would be pretty hard to do that and I would prefer bug fixes and new features over skins.

I'm surprised to see so much negativity toward something like this.

Skinning a torch or a backpack is TOTALLY COOL, but having unique Chesters is somehow not?

I'd like to see more skins and think this is a pretty neat idea.

But one's an item and one's a mob. What sense would it make to change a mob's entire appearance by having their follower item?  Let's not forget the ice and shadow variants.

Sense?

Well I mean. If you have chester's follower item, and you have chesters follower item skinned, I would expect chester to be skinned yes? It would not make sense if chester gets randomly skinned right...?

I don't honestly see how that matters.

Chester is not a typical mob; he is a friendly creature.  Items also did not have skins until they ... did.  And now it's just accepted.

Ice and Shadow Chesters are certainly not player unique skins.  I don't honestly understand the opposition to it, but we absolutely NEED to have another colored pair of sneakers or lumberjack shirt.

Exactly! Where the heck are my rainbow pleated shirts?

I'm kidding, don't lynch me

We have talked about this, actually.

A couple issues. First, there is no actual clean interface for how this would be done because you don't craft Chester as @Chris1488 said. Obviously we could figure out another way, but it's a thing to consider.

But more importantly than that; chest has functionality depending on the way he looks. As with other items in the game, how something looks is entirely how you know what it does. So if a new person playing the game were to see this skinned chester, what would they be able to understand about it? Where as the other versions of chester actually mean something. In addition, how do we handle something like Ice Chester with the rainbow skin?

Idea #1: When a chester has a skin on make the horns have diffirent color based on the transformed version he is currently in, so if ice = blue horns, dark chester = black horns, normal chester = orange horns

Idea #2: Change the color of the container? Instead of brown make it blue same for dark chester but dark gray.

Idea #3: Change name? Chester, Ice Chester, Dark Chester.

I was joking about Chester being a Keyblade but now that I ponder on it, the eyebone might be the key to skins. Depending on what you do to the eyebone, then you can change the design. A Christmas, Halloween, Krampusknacht chester would be great defense against krampus invasions. I imagine the sack this particular chester carries could strike against krampi.

Well, i think about a skin with the respective alternative colors for the shadow chester and snow chester, if the common chester only change the colors (and some features) why not the skin colors change too?? now about the eye bone... its not necesary to change, i mean, you pick the eyebone and appear a chester with the skin that you choose (of course the skin will be the skin of the player that summon chester) i don't know why the people think about changing other mobs and this things, Chester is a kind of special mob, right??

I was going to say this and i'm shocked only one of the devs could see this issue. Of all things in the game, Chester is the one that should never get a reeskin. His appearance already changes depending on the players actions and they affect what function he has. If Chester looked different, my common knowledge would immediatly assume it's a new form i had no idea it existed.

Not everything in the game needs to get a reeskin, these basic visual cues are what lets everyone understand the game. I don't even like how some of them give the fake idea of how an item works or is crafted.

Maybe in the character's skin menu can have an extra option for Chester, then in-game when the player picks the eye bone appear a Chester with the skin chosen.
