Guest
Did the shadow creatures create the phonograme and it's record when Maxwell moved into the book or was this even before Maxwell? Though knowing that Maxwell and Charlie were abducted in 1906, I'm guessing it was just when Maxwell came in. Though knowing that Maxwell and Charlie were abducted in 1906, I'm guessing it was just when Maxwell came in. A long time ago, I was sitting in my kitchen, and my cat knocked over a bunch of pans. I then took from this situation an idea to write a story, so I picked up my nearest water balloon and didn't let any time go to waste. Now, there's a bit here that involves some lady who likes the color purple, and I'll leave that part out, but eventually I tripped and my .txt file changed to .wav and landed right in Bigfoot's lap. He doesn't like to admit this occurrence, but it's the truth. Oh wait, you mean how it got in the lore, not the game itself. minespatch
Thanks for posting anyways. This and the connection between Charlie and the gryphon statues are mysteries I'd love to dwell on. Wexton
Maybe it was on the theater where they were abducted,or something made by the shadows to try to keep him insane/sane? I wouldn't be surprised that not only Maxwell's influence but whoever sits on the Nightmare Throne influences the changes that happen to the land. The gramapone could have existed in the building. Wexton
Maybe making the "king/queen"insane so they create more creepy and dangerous stuff to the survivors making it more interesting for the shadows is the reason that the gramapone is there. TheTraditionalGentleman
I'm guessing that it came from Maxwell. Maybe it was a song he liked, or maybe it was a song that he played with some of his shows. Either way, I think They got irritated of being used for his shows, and so use it as a form of mockery as he's forced to "put on a show" using people to entertain Them. Developer ImDaMisterL Posted August 1, 2016 Developer Share Posted August 1, 2016 They made it, I think. CaptainChaotica
Pretty much what Traditional Gentleman said. I've always assumed that the song was associated with Maxwell, and that's why it's even more old-fashionedy than the rest of the music in the game--because it's about 20 years out of date! Over in Their throne room, it's still ragtime, whereas out in the "real world" (?) they're dancing the Charleston. Now, what _specific_ song it is (in story terms) I don't know, but something used during Maxwell's magic shows would make sense. Or maybe they made a record of what used to be his very favourite song appear out of nowhere and played it to death to ironic-punish him. (Maybe it's both?) Something like that. (...I've never really gotten Rickrolling as a thing. It doesn't seem _mean_ enough to be an Internet prank. If you trick somebody into going to a wrong link, isn't it supposed to be a screamer or something? And the song/video isn't even that goofy, especially by '80s standards.) ...Notorious Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/69223-origin-of-the-ragtime-song/#findComment-799661 Share on other sites
ExtollerOfTrolls
Hmm, yeah, I like the idea that the tune had something to do with Maxwell's show. There is something interesting about it, though. Excluding the Shipwrecked OST, arguably the only cheerful music in the entire game is Ragtime. (Well, Hoedown is pretty cheerful, too, but you only hear it as Woodie.) Anyway, a ragtime tune sounds more like something you'd hear to promote a show, rather than playing in it. Maybe They put it there to promote his suffering or the suffering that the throne inflicts. Or maybe They just enjoy watching the show. CaptainChaotica
What, the springtime music isn't cheerful? : P And yeah, it is deliciously ironic that the most bouncy tune in the game...actually symbolises misery and insanity, because of WHERE it shows up. I love it. ...Notorious Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/69223-origin-of-the-ragtime-song/#findComment-799820 Share on other sites
ExtollerOfTrolls
53 minutes ago, CaptainChaotica said: What, the springtime music isn't cheerful? : P Well, it's definitely more energetic, but it's not exactly happy sounding. It sorta makes me think of trees and stuff, but not necessarily in a good way. Then again, it doesn't make me think of toiling away in the sun like the summer OST does. The Ragtime showed up in a few trailers, too, right? This one in particular catches my interest. CaptainChaotica
And that's precisely the trailer I was thinking of. When you see where in the game STORY'S context that song actually turns up... Man, it is so surreal to see/think of this game in the days before sanity was even a thing at all. It is SUCH a core concept of not only the gameplay, but the entire mood! Even if you have the screen distortion turned off (which I do, 'cos at a _leetle_ bit insane, everything wobbles at JUST the right frequency to make my eyes bleed) the slowed..downANDFASTwrroooonnnnngggggg....version of the dusk jingle is FREAKY. Gleck. (Then again, I seem to have a thing about messed up music like that in general 'cos with Eversion, the one level/world that has the score going crazy all over the place and the huge spurts of blood? It's not THAT that gets me. It's the god. Damned. Speeding up and slowing down. Music. : P Come to think of it, Eversion is a bit like Don't Starve in overall tone..."Oh, it's all cute and cartoony and look at the little guy happily bob along through the meadow and HOLY !@#$ WHAT IS HAPPENING...!") ...Notorious Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/69223-origin-of-the-ragtime-song/#findComment-799845 Share on other sites
