Any small things that grind your gears?

Recommended Posts

Are there any small or miniscule details in DST that just get under your skin? Like, are there some character portraits you just can't stand, structures or items being placed in out there tabs, or certain animations that rub you the wrong way?

For me, it's how certain characters in the base roster of the game having short-sleeved shirts despite having long-sleeved ones in their portrait art. Willow? Short-sleeves. Wickerbottom? Short-sleeves. Heck, even Maxwell, who is shown in promotional art, as an npc, and even animated shorts wearing a long-sleeved suit, yet in game, he sports a weird looking short-sleeved suit. It just doesn't look right to me.

Those were just a few examples. I'd love to hear what other things that grind you guy's gears.

These forums.

Spoiler

No geometric placement in console. You have no clue how painful it is to see the one chest you place in the storage room was place too far away and now because of that sin the rest of your chests are damned. It is even worse cause I have a slight drift that causes me to move further then I would want. One of the reasons why I'm switching to PC for dst.

I feel that. I used to play don't starve on console and the uneven placement of berry bushes and saplings drove me INSANE. If I ever wanted it to look halfway decent, I'd spend half a game day trying to make sure the placement was good.

Ooh, I like this thread! Probably the animation and visual errors I see time-to-time that probably most people don't notice, lol. I have a thing for animating and the such so I've always got my eyes peeled open studying the art of this game and I see a lot of small errors. Things like the fur around the neck of kitcoons randomly having their size reset upon the loop of their eating animation. Symbols/sprites being stretched or misplaced a bit too much in certain animations, or very very very miniscule lines disappearing in some animations, and the farm soil by itself, or with a plant in it being low quality, but the soil in the garden detritus is HD

Yea, haha, again, just really small things that no normal person would ever notice, but I like finding these things, it's a nice lil' treasure hunt I suppose.

When I dig a garden with a digamajig with no intent of ever planting any crops into it and instead turn it into a makeshift graveyard only for forget me lots to start spawning in my completely cleared out garden plot intentionally filled with my own dead skeletons.

And also all the Gorge/Forge vigenettes, profile icons, portrait frames etc of game content I never got to actually play but these things are in the game to remind me they were once a thing that happened..

I literally had to BEG Klei for the Gorges metal picket fences as a skin.. but I’m super glad they actually were nice enough to make that one for me <3

Having a girly flowery Sisturn in the middle of my graveyard doesn’t look good either though so it grinds my gears we don’t have one that more closely matches the picket fences and mossy stone walls.

Lastly as a #WendyMain where in the FRICK Is Lureplant Abigail flower??!?

Animation errors?  Oh, well these don't actually grind my gears, but I do notice them.  There are some frames of some animations that are VERY unfortunate to pause on.

For example, did you know that when the Bearger gets angry enough, apparently his/her NOSE DETACHES?!

And on a cuter-but-still-weird note, the one I found last month:

horncat.png.7c5cd51519a8d8665f5604ce90f98d1e.png

...having the marking on the nose _attached_ to the nose no matter what the animation, gives the kitcoon a "horn" when it does certain poses. XD
(although let's face it; this is perfectly in character with the game's tone anyway.  Cute but Weird is kinda what Don't Starve DOES.)

A thing that DOES grind my gears, unless it's been fixed recently and I didn't know:

Why the HECK does armour replace itself on you automatically if it breaks but you've got an identical one in your inventory, _but weapons DON'T_?!  I've had to use a freaking mod for this, for years!  Armor, yes.  Clothing, yes.  Tools, yes.  Weapons, no.  Why?

...Notorious

Useless/ “intentionally” bad crockpot recipes. Especially when the fix seems easy enough, it’s literally just three numbers.

DST version of asparagus soup (nerfed) is an abomination.

Asparagus soup is fine, it fulfils a purpose (adding healing functionality to asparagus). The recipe could stand to be 0.5 veggies rather than 1.5 though, making it anything other than kelp, red mushrooms, lichen or excess plants such a waste.

To me, truly horrid dishes aren't the mediocre ones but those that absolutely don't fulfil a purpose at all even as an acceptable alternative or a balancing punishment such as Figgy Frogwich, ceviche and fish tacos.

So is it fine or could the recipe stand to be 0.5 veg instead of 1.5?

For the most part I don't mind crockpot recipies that aren't too amazingly good or intentionally bad/mediocre at best because the recipies are extremely simple, but then there's those crockpot recipies.

The ones that require more effort than other comparable recipies and for some ungodly reason either provide so much less or offer some other very very very small bonus that isn't even that good. I'm talking about fish tacos, ceviche, figgy frogwich, recipies like that.

I really understand that it's not easy making every food worthwhile and that bringing in some variety in how amazing foods can be makes things more interesting, but wow. Some of these are astonishingly not worth it. And that's only the ones that have another food which directly competes.

I know right! I want Abigail to match the Wendy skin I almost always use.

The funny thing with fish tacos is, I feel all they literally need to do is double the hunger value to 75, that way at least between fishsticks and fish tacos you'd pick one for health and the other for hunger, like how with eggs, bacon and eggs is for hunger while peirogi is for health.
