I dont like mods that makes the game easy because its the opposite of the goal of this game but you have some interesting mods like gorge and forge Skin HUDs or Adventure more, gorge and forge mod that able you to play these 3 game mods.

Also the disseapear youtuber Joeshmocoolstuff has a couple of challenge mods

A bunch of annoying things can be disabled through the use of my stuff found: https://steamcommunity.com/id/CarlZalph/myworkshopfiles/?appid=322330

ActionQueue Reborn: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1608191708

Gesture Wheel: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=352373173

There's a few mods that make it so you don't auto-attack walls and balloons, though I use my own things for that.

Just note that there are some client mods that others would view as cheating, but ultimately it's whatever you decide you'd want to play with.  Games are meant for entertainment, after all.

Shameless plug, smh

Time to do a shameless plug myself, please subscribe to Hamlet Characters

There's a mod called Feast and Famine https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1908933602

It's a bit small right now but it's really nice and does things like making it a bit harder to get meatballs, by adding other dishes that you'd get instead. Such as if you put too many berries, you get breaded meat, too many ice, you get stewed meat. And so on, forcing you to actually put a variety of ingredients in the crock pot instead of just using 3 ice for each meatball. There's also a bunch new seeds, football helmets require leather which is gained by drying pig skin on a drying rack. It's just a really nice mod that complements the vanilla game well, :D

Honestly, I'd tell you to add any kind of mod you want!! If you think maxwell or, idk, wendy are too hard to play as but you really like them then find something that lets you enjoy them more! Sometimes it's better to play safe and slowly get used to all the mechanics before going headstraight into the hard parts of the game. It's like learning to ride a bike, for example, many people start with the smallish wheels and take them out when they're more confident.

In that case i'd recommend all the "reliable [character name]" type of mods, they are super nice for new players and you can change their configurations till you don't need them anymore <3

As for me, I actually like the more visual/aesthetic mods myself. I have "Animal Variety" which gives different colors to the animals and some of the mobs that exist on the world; "Maxwell Stuff" and "Maxwell Phonograph" which adds items from Adventure mode to make my base prettier. Tho i also have "Gesture Wheel" for easy access to emotes and "Health Info" which shows the creature's total health when u hover the mouse aaand "Islands Adventures" for when i wanna try the Shipwrecked version of dont starve together

Look up Reset Camera Mod. You won't regret it. All it does is reset the Camera to it's default position, but it's incredible for when someone gives you directions based on the default view.

Smooth Camera is also fantastic, couldn't recommend it more!

While you *can* do this, I personally recommend against it, as using mods since day 1 can build some bad habits and make your life needlessly hard in vanilla, and make the time you take learning how to play longer than usual.

Instead of the "training wheels" mentality, I prefer a more "Throw into the deep end" mentality.

I can recommend some of my personal mods that I made with love and care.

Here's an example of one of them. It's a lovely little reskin mod. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1869460514

There's plenty others if Anchors aren't your thing, though.

I used to play on console a lot so I already have some habits and know how to play, but thanks for the advice and the mods! I’m sorry if I came off rude.

I never play without Status Announcements, although I really wish it had official Wortox, Wormwood and Wurt quotes.

Im pretty sure there's a way to mod that, as it's possible to have mod characters have custom lines.

Speaking of which, I should look into that.

Don't try too many mods, they will make you addictive and crash your client in some cases.

"Any particular...bothers I can help you alleviate on this fine night, gentlemen? Just a few examples of our finest goods."

Spoiler

My Entire DST Steam Workshop (there's also a DS one)

The Finest Goods

Auto Stack And Pick Up - the drug of choice for the late-30s gamer, who doesn't want to take time out of their day to loot 100s of individual pieces of wood. If auto pick-up is too much cheating for you, then auto-stack alone might be a good compromise. It's addictive stuff, though!

Long-range Research - the everyman's choice. Lets you access all the prototypers you are within a certain range of, instead of only the closest one. You can customize the ranges of all the different types of prototypers/machines using two categories, Short and Long, to which you can assign two range values. The default range in the original code is 4, so I usually set Short to 4 and Long to just 8, and set all the prototypers I can build myself to Long, and all the world-spawns to Short. Then I can build a fireplace and all my machines around it, and then use all of them at the same time. Aaand still cut down on the clutter by moving a bit closer to the machine I know I'm about to use. That's not all, though. Crank it up to 200 and you can use all your machines all the time while you're in the vicinity of the base! It can reach the entire map, but for each player in the game, it multiplies the CPU power needed, but I only see problems start at about range 5000 with 2 players, so low-100s is fine, as long as the possible total is lower than 4-5000.

Sanity Tuner - gives you the power to decrease or increase the amount of sanity you gain or lose from just about every source (categorized by the variables used in the game code, like, mounted sanity gain/loss). You can make the game just a little bit harder, or you can give yourself a good pummeling, if that's what you're into. Or you can use it to make the game just a bit more casual. I usually just turn wet item sanity drain down to 50%.

Temperature Tuner - same description as "Sanity Tuner" above, just replace the word "sanity" with "temperature" and it should be close to the same description ;) Lets you tune 26 different aspects of player temperatures!

Stat Regen And Degen - lets you set up dynamic, rule-based regeneration and/or degeneration individually for health, max-health, hunger and sanity. You can, e.g., make your character steadily lose max-health if their health and/or hunger is very low, and let them regen it when their hunger and health are over some % requirement. You can set ranges (stat requirements for activating regen, and lower stat thresholds for activating degen) for each stat, and choose whether to only activate if BOTH thresholds are broken, or either of them being broken triggers it. You can make players steadily lose sanity if their hunger is low. You can make the regen/degen not work while in combat and/or moving, with settings for how long you have to be out of combat or standing still to regenerate. It's insanely powerful, also for hardcore players! You can really set up some interesting, dynamic gameplay mechanics with this tool. Mix with Resurrection Tuner and you'll be flying ;)

Jokes aside, I seldom shill, so I think many of my mods actually go under people's radar, even though I think many would absolutely love them. Even the purists. And many of them let you make the game harder and easier in many interesting ways. I'd hate for someone who would love them to simply not know about them, so here is one shill hidden in a spoiler. May I pay for it in penance.

I'm sorry. But I love these. And the few comments I get are like "How did I not know about this! I just might have patience for this game now!", or the guy who customized the game using my mods so his 5-year-old could play it :D

I hope they help someone shape their game experience for the better. But earn your stripes before using them too heavily...unless you want a more casual experience now. I don't care. I'm not your boss. Do what you want XD I'm not afraid to admit, that I'm simply a bad DST player, and not really into min/maxing as much as this game wants you to, so I tweak it a bit :)

These are my MUST HAVES (without any of mine in the list):

Teleportato - Lets you teleport to a newly generated world (with all the loot on the players). You have to collect 4 or 5 pieces for a machine from around the map, and when you've combined them, all the players gather around it and teleport to a new world together! He even made an Adventure Mode mod in the style of DS.

Finder Mod - Highlights chests containing the item you hold. Hovering over recipe ingredients in e.g. Crock Pot, will highlight e.g all veggies or fruits and so on.

Repair Combine - Lets you put those 10% durability armors and weapons to good use, by using them to repair lesser damaged versions of the same armor or weapon.

Show Me (origin) - shows various info about players, creatures and items on mouse-over.

Health Info - Shows exact health of creatures on mouse-over and controller-auto-target.

No Container Blocking - Lets all players use the same container at the same time.

Moving Box - You can drag an empty Moving Box over a structure to begin packing it up. Once its packed, you can carry the box to its destination. You can set it down and unpack it anywhere.

Combined Status - Enhances the HUD to better show the player's stats and various information about the world, such as temperature, season, and moon phase.

Minimap HUD - A minimap <3

Coordinate - A small, movable label with coordinates, to better communicate with others where you are (they need the mod, too, otherwise they won't know which way your position is :D).
