Owlrust
I like playing DST more than RoG because of the extra content....but I don't like playing with anyone else so I usually play alone. Is that really taboo of a prospect? ButterStuffed
Not really. I do it, multiple people on these forums do it. Its not at all shameful to play it by yourself. YouKnowWho
It's not too crazy; lots of people do it. Though something to keep in mind is that things are usually designed on the idea of having multiple people, so things like bosses will be a bit more difficult than just the base game. Usually not an issue though. Though, y'know, that mainly applies to Bearger and Deerclops, since they're the only ones who spawn the same way they do in singleplayer. Marco BR
I play alone most of the time, it's cool to play with friends but I like the idea of having a world of my own. MrKoopa
I play alone, mostly because I don't have any friends that live close to me. I also play alone because I can do whatever I want and I don't have to worry about the resources, the base and stuff. Nino123
with the new update, Klei add the possibility to create a solo world at the creation of yours. And they also advise new players to start from here. So it's probably a normal thing. Viktor234
Quote Is there shame in playing the game by yourself? Of course it isn't, you'll learn way more about how to play the game if you play alone. But once you survive for some longer time (at least 70 days) without having your base destroyed, I would recommend you to join public servers every now and then. That might help you to learn more game mechanics (How to kill bosses, how to generate ressources en masse, etc.) or you'll find some friends to enjoy the game together. It's a way bigger shame if you want to learn with friends and thus join any server you don't know: Not everyone is your friend and it's really annoying to play the babysitter for every newcomer playing DST for the 1st time. GetNerfedOn
tho the game is called don't starve together, there's no shame for me because i am forced to choose between having fun alone or lagging out in a server and dying. the choice is obvious and easy. Pelontriques
you have the option to play alone. there's no real shame in it, but do note that bosses will be a pain in the bloody arse. CaptainChaotica
Shame?! God no. Or if the answer to some people is "yes"...I don't care about those people. : P Heck, there are even some challenges that work BETTER when alone, as it's harder to get multiple people to play by arbitrary challenge rules, or it fits the theme better to be a "lonely wanderer". The No Science Machine/Caveman/early days of the March of Civliization challenges all come to mind, for example. Also there's mods on the workshop about exactly the problems that playing alone on a multiplayer game can bring, such as giving bosses the same amount of health they have in singleplayer, again: Automatic Health Adjust Tada! And this is only one of MANY that do similar things, it turns out. If multiple people have put in actual effort to make the game more playable as a single player....OBVIOUSLY you're not the only one, is what I'm getting at. (and if you're on console...well, the fact that people have made those mods STILL means you're not the only one who wants to play alone. You just can't...make actual _use_ of the mods, unfortunately.) ...Notorious Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/108469-is-there-shame-in-playing-the-game-by-yourself/#findComment-1221316 Share on other sites
AnitaCoffee
I play alone plenty, and hop into random pubs. I've brought friends to play the game, but there is a lot to learn in this title and unfortunately my main gaming buddies have different tastes. Final Fantasy Online or Overcooked is more their speed, and I'm sure at least one wishes FF would be my favorite, too, lol. Anyway, I have managed to meet quite a few interesting players just through random pubs to play with. There is a lot more laughs in playing with people, because sometimes the hardest thing to survive is other players! Alone has it's perks though. Anytime I want to roll back, I can. I can use whatever mods I want, though I tend to stick to quality of life because that's a slippery slope. I can build, kill, learn, and tackle things however I want, when I want. It's your own little world. The most difficult thing in the beginning is managing time, so the first year is often spent "Need to do x,y,z before next season." Edit: And I have to add, I think the developer's were thinking of solo players when they added in the moon postern. kiwikenobi
I think that there's no shame in any activity in the world that doesn't hurt anyone. You can play a game by yourself however you like; it won't bother anybody, and if you enjoy it, that's all that matters. That's what games are for: having fun.
