ONI: Should i buy or wait?

Recommended Posts

I¨m a student and i'm kinda short on money and trying to save some, but i really love Klei's games, I've got all Don't Starve games and I play them very often. I really want to get myself a copy of Oxygen Not Included, it's 40% off now on store for something around 13€, but it would cost me 11€ if i buy it in the bundle (I've got the other games). it's not much but every bit of money counts in my country. Do you guys think the price will get even cheaper on the Steam Summer sales or not? Should i wait a little bit longer or buy it now?

P.S.: Sorry for the typo lol, was too tired i guess

I intentionally bought a unfinished game:

=> If you´re like me and you like the tinkering and experimenting aspects, I would recommend getting ONI sooner than later.

(It´s more bang for your buck, if you can explore a new meta with new challenges every 1-2 months. Many challening builds existed in the past, which are now unnecessary but were a lot of fun. That´s a reason I like this game, with it´s short "update" cycle and changing meta)

If you enjoy base bulders then I'd say it's woth it but ly wait to buy with a dicount (sorry it's a tad tactles to say that on the site of the game itself but it is what I honnetly think).

The game is failry decent and will get you fun for a few hours at least (if you like base builders) and definiively has the potential to be Great (with a major G no less) but it curently still lacking on content. Sti the updates are fairly egular and he dev are stilla cively workin on it which is alway a good sign so I think you r/as is/ definitively reasonably at las a good product.

I would hesitate to recomend it for say 30 or 25 euros but 13 or 11 euros is definitively worth it.

My general suggestion is to never buy early access games.

If you buy an early access game, you should be legally outlawed to be verbally\publicly disappointed by it.

In another words, buy it only if you think you'll get your worth of fun from it (like from fully released game). Or if you just wanna back the devs (i.e. give your money to them).

What country are you from?

What does this question have to do with anything? Does oni work different in different countries?

So how did you get in the possession of ONI then?

I disagree.  The whole point of early access is so that the devs can see what disappoints people about the game so they can see it and try to fix it.  If we can't talk about it, which is what some people call complaining, then how will they know the weaknesses of the game?  Any complaints or discussion should take in to account that the game is in early access though, like any discussion about the incompleteness of the database.

In my opinion, the game is fun as is.  If you intend to buy it eventually and it is within your means, you should buy it.  However, you should be prepared for rule changes every 6 weeks.

Yes its a good value game and I am not one who is afraid to criticise where I feel it is appropriate.

The game is very playable now and you can do a lot with emergent play and the scope keeps increasing. There are occasional bugs but they are usually minor, not blockers and Klei are very responsive if bugs are reported appropriately.

If you liked making farm / tech bases in Dont Starve then this takes it to a whole new level. Though it does have a less lethal cruelty balance (in as much as the game does not end if you kill a dupe or even all of your dupes) it is still punishing if you blunder and deeply upsetting of course. In comparison with Dont Starve it is a little more abstract SciFi themed experience but this is the far future in a distant asteroid compared to quantum hell in a nightmare dimension.

In terms of value for money even in early access this has to be one of the best value of all my games. Its up there with Dont Starve of course and Factorio and Kerbal Space Program. If you are on a tight budget you would be well advised to try this and if you really cant stand it after and hour or so then refund inside the 2 hour limit. (Though to be honest it takes longer than this to get the hang of it.) There is a reason it has >90% positive ratings on Steam.

I'm not the guy you were replying to, but keep in mind standard of living is different in different countries. For 13 euro I can go to the movies and buy popcorn+cola around three times where I come from. At the same time where I'm studying in the UK I can get a ticket and small popcorn for that same price.

And before you say that if you are this poor you shouldn't buy games, consider that food, rent, tax etc. is a lot cheaper to make up for the wages being lower (or the other way around), but the price of the games remains the same.
