[SOLVED] How to cool Solar panel ?

Recommended Posts

  • try to cool it with water pipe (guess same goes for gas pipe)
  • drip water into it
  • place bunch of tempshift
  • build metal tile (hope for heat transfer)

All of this is FAIL

Only method that work to transfer heat in this vacuum is to make it no-longer vacuum I shut all door then throw gas at it my gas is disappear but heat do transfer to my pipe.

Or my solar panel is set in wrong place ?

I suggest not build the panel too close to the space edge. Because meteor radar need some space (I guess around 17 tiles)

The meteor sensors get blown up during meteor showers which makes the bunker doors not open or get stuck open. It will need constant repair but might eventually work. You could always just use shine bugs to power your panels :)

Maybe this?

Space edge
Bunker door
Radar
Windows tile
Solar panel

space edge

bunker door

window tiles

radar + panel

This system works. Or what R9 is suggesting works as well. Right now the bigger problem is the heat from the showers which is melting the doors but i assume it'll be patched in 2 weeks time.

Possible to stack, but only the top one can get solar light and generate power

I see. Yes the floor of the solar panel should block the sunlight.

Btw, I assume the panels have to build right below the space vacuum?

Can't you just place the sensor below a bunker door. Close the door when the sensor triggers and reopen it with a filter gate after a reasonable amount of time?

I am not sure whether the sensor would be able to function, but some automation should allow you to meteor-proof your sensor.

Solar panels need a significant buff to be worth it.

After building bunker doors, glass tiles, getting a atmosphere and cooling in, that is a lot of infrastructure.

Now say you build 4 for a grand total of 880 only nothing at night so less than one nat gas gen.

Now subtract power to the metor shower sensors.  Not sure how many you need (2 is only 15% network efficienty).  Depending on that network efficiency, you could spend more on power than you get but let's say just 2 for -240W.  Plus the blast door use a lot of power when being poened and closed.

All this for <400W generation?  No thanks.

I tried this and the glass under the bunk doors still took damage

How do you prevent from having to constantly manually sweep up the asteroids that fall? I tried using an auto-sweeper but they can't mine out the materials that fall. Having a duplicant go up there to mine out the material every day doesn't seem worth it at all.

You got a good setup for the case. Just ad vertical automated airlocks at the place where your gas-vent is (and place that somewhere else)

Then link all of the doors to an automation wire, bound to a setup of buffer-gate(2sec) > not gate - filter gate(9.1sec) Add a automation-wire from the output of the filter gate to the output of the buffer gate to make it loop, and link the doors also to this line.

That way, the doors are nearly always open (and letting sunlight through) but will close for 0.1 seconds every 2 seconds. This will crush everything falling into the doors.

You may tinker around with automation to prevent the doors doing this, while the bunker doors are closed, to prevent power wasting. You may further experiment to do this crushing job just a couple of times (say 10x) after opening the bunker-doors, and then just stay open.

Would not mind the destroying as long i get rid of the blocking. But yeah i would say thats a bug.

Another question... watched the video and noticed, your automation system will only produce noise when the automation overlay is active. But not when normal view is active. Did i miss anything? Because my automation always makes noise, which is somewhat disturbing at times.
