Finding that Dream Seed

Recommended Posts

I have gotten somewhat tired of going 500-1000 cycles in and wishing I had very different Geysers.

I was wondering if anyone knew a seed that has what I want, or a method to evaluating them quickly (without using debug mode). Maybe the algorithm to geysers by seed itself?

Specifically I have been hoping to test some stuff on a map with all of the following,

Decent Slush Geyser

Good Water Geyser

Any Rate Gold Geyser

Volcano / Minor Volcano

Any Rate Chlorine Geyser

... Maybe a Leaky oil too If I was being super greedy?

I have been making maps and using debug to scout them, but it takes too long when I'm looking for something specific.

I had the same problem.  Then I found this:

https://robophred.github.io/oni-duplicity/#/editor

If you load a save it'll tell you all the geysers on the map, and then you can edit their type and rates if you want, and re-save it.  Worked well for me, just modded my seed (719177529) to add in a little more geyser variety.

But on another note, I do hope they'll add an advanced world generation system, where we can just pick the geysers or debris we want and it'll spit one out.  The randomness is enjoyable, but my last map had 4 chlorine geysers.  FOUR.  It literally takes away from all the cool things you can build and do when you never get a slush geyser or hydrogen geyser or anything interesting.

Yeah I had 5 cool steam, 3 Ngas and one Hot PH2O and 1 chlorine. Couldn't even experiment with the volcanoes.
I do hope to see more variety of geysers too. Like having cool water geysers that output water just above freezing.
But yeah thanks for the link Ima make a cool save now

Seed: 613035711

This is the one I use atm for mk1, hoping it will still be relatively the same in mk2, it has 2 steams and a pol water geyser left of the base, and below it an NG one, right of the base there's a chlorine geyser, and further on a pol water one, downwards from there a slush, upwards from there a pO2.

Bottom right there's an oil well next to an iron volcano.
There's also 2 minor volcanos, one in the cold biome above the base, and one in the cold biome left of the steam geysers and upwards.

There's also plenty of wheezeworts, an AETN under the left volcano, another one top right of the map and a third somewhere left of the top minor volcano.

So yeah, it's got everything you'd want ( aside from maybe infinite gold )

yeah, I no longer enjoy the random since the advent of geysers that I hate, of which chlorine is one.  I've instead been saving the seed numbers that people recommend that have the geysers I want and playing those seed numbers.  It's still an exploration since I don't know where they are, but at least I don't have a beautiful base at cycle 100 and discover it's got multiple chlorine and oil reservoirs instead of ones I want.....

Does the game depend only on which geyser you got on your map ?

For some people, yes. I can understand. The current map I'm on gave me a copper volcano 20 tiles west of my printer. Almost restarted right then but then I forced myself to do my normal find 3 hidden geysers before giving up. Geyser 2 is a decent polluted water vent so I'm on the fence now. Let's see what geyser 3 is.

For me what I'm looking for is a hydrogen geyser not far from spawn but THAT, I think is to much to be asking for.

Sadly, the one map I had that (25 west and 15 down) was a really crappy hydrogen geyser. Looking at it in the save editor, it was under 5% in output, activity length and dormancy. IIRC, it was in the 20 or so grams per second range averaged out to include dormancy...

I don't have that seed number anymore though, sorry. I'll try to remember to let you know if I find another.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but if you know it's coordinates you could simply spawn it in that same location and it's output should be the same.  The numbers for rate and dormancy are dependent on the object's location.  Or did that change?

Sandbox mode allows us to delete ruins (thank you!).  Does it also allow us to add and remove geysers?

Edit: It does allow us to delete geysers, but I didn't see a way to add new ones.  But we should be able to do that in debug mode, if I'm not mistaken.

Hmmm... Good question. I'm assuming yes for at least removing geysers due to the ruins deletion. I'll have to try it out tonight if no one else gets to it first.

No guarantees on how far from spawn, but when I was looking for a slush geyser, I wrote down the following from people's recommendations on the forums that also had hydrogen:

668187029 - 2x steam, 3x methane, copper, chlorine_gas, small_volcano, hot_water, slush_water, hot_hydrogen

1115709793 slush right by starting biome lots wheezies, AETN close, two cold steam very close to all, another cold steam, hydrogen close to cold biome, 3 AETN total  [I tried this one and the slush IS right by start but it's a really low output.]

Ha, I got it hard on my MK1 seed map.

Near my base:

2 Steam Vent (52 gr. and 62gr of steam, per sec = Garbage)

2 Chlorine geysers

1 Nat Gas

Top (Next to neutromium) edge of the map:

1 Cool Steam Vent

1 Gold Volcano (in the middle of a cold biom)

Bottom:

Submerged in oil another Steam vent.

I was really really struggling to get water and somehow managed without a geyser, had to literally scrap every single pocket of Polluted water in swam biomes, and it gets really really frustrating. When I got to somehow stabilize without a source of clean water is when i found the steam vents, so, soooo far away from my base it took me nearly 50 cycles to set up a pump and pipelines. It was a nightmare. Probably if I hadnt have the experience I have now I would have died.

Found a nice seed but no volcano...

1637406828

natural gas and chlorine with 2 water

hidden natural gas, iron, 2 gold, copper, steam, hot polluted oxygen and a cool slush.

So yes.  More than 1 of each metal.  I think that makes up for not having a lava volcano.

Here are two really nice seeds!

2222222. Features cold, swamp and caustic biomes that are more or less equal in size. Cool steam vent directly left of spawn. Contains the following:

2 cool steam vents / 2 natural gas geysers, plus:

  • 2 cool steam vents
  • 2 polluted water vents
  • 1 slush geyser
  • 1 minor volcano
  • 1 leaky oil fissure
  • 1 CO2 vent

The total water output of this seed (from 4 cool steam geysers, 2 polluted water vents and 1 slush geyser) is around 9.32kg/s (compared to 8.39kg/s of the old ONI before Ranching Mk.I), which is more than enough to sustain a population of... around 50 dupes.

===================================================

2094867315. Features large cold and swamp biomes and relatively small caustic biomes. Cool steam vent directly below spawn. Contains the following:

2 cool steam vents / 1 natural gas geyser / 1 chlorine geyser, plus:

  • 2 polluted water vents
  • 1 water geyser
  • 1 leaky oil fissure
  • 1 copper volcano
  • 1 steam vent
  • 1 natural gas geyser

The total water output of this seed (from 2 cool steam geysers, 2 polluted water vents and 1 water geyser) is around 8.45kg/s (compared to 8.39kg/s of the old ONI before Ranching Mk.I), which is more than enough to sustain a population of... around 40 dupes.
