Against The Grain Overview

Recommended Posts

I was not expecting that triggered Antlion bit, really gave me a good laugh there...

Honestly though, feel like this update is just the beginning.

I feel like there's going to be a lot more interesting summer content to come, especially with what they can do with the Antlion and Sandstorms.

"The skies shall fall!"  (sits there calmly meditating)

...cool chicks don't look at rockfalls?  : P  Those new rocks are interesting, too--way bigger than the normal rocks, smaller than the ones you mine.

(And yeah, I've noticed Wigfrid seems to assume EVERYthing is a female--at least, the things she genders at all.  She also does this with kittykits and mandrakes.  Heh.  Although whether the Antlion is a lioness in a mane-wig or a dude who simply wants to be FABulous, either way is okay with me.  :))

One thing I've noticed lately is...with all these new set pieces and a new(ish) biome, my worlds are starting to feel kind of crowded--and crazy.  I've got everything on default and the landscape is NUTS!  It seriously doesn't know what it wants to be and keeps changing from one thing to another in a smaller space than I would normally expect.  This has happened two worlds in a row.  (Also:  excessive spiders, but not as much as on "more".)  Weird.  Maybe it's just having a midlife crisis...

...Notorious

Nice video, could have been a little bit shorter though, try to cut some unnecessary parts (like travelling to the desert or waiting for the cave-in).

There's 2 things I haven't seen mentioned in any of these kind of videos yet though. The first is that inside the sandstorm there's no summer smoldering. The second is that you don't necessarily need a second lazy deserter to teleport, you can instead consume a desert stone from your inventory.

Thanks for the feedback! I've honestly been recording for more than 12 hours (mostly waiting for the cave-in and sinkholes to happen, also we had to do some redos on some clips due to one of my partners talking midrecording.) and I was kind of disappointed how it only ended up to be 5 minutes.

Also, I kind of noticed the thing with the lack of smoldering in a sandstorm, although I wasn't sure. About the desert stone consumption thing, I didn't know at all!

Nice video, I like it! Good job :)

How does this works exactly? The one who's at the Lazy Deserter can teleport? And who needs to have the desert stone, the teleporting person or the one you're teleporting to?

One player "channels" the lazy deserter normally, other players can use a desert stone to teleport to the channeling player. You lose the desert stone this way, but it's quite cheap anyway.

This is nice for when hounds are coming and you're far away from tooth traps for example, a friend can help you get back to safety.

Quick question, so from now on every summer we'll have to actively go look for the antlion and appease him, or he'll destroy your base wherever it is?My question is aimed to know what happens if your base is far enough from the oasis, and for whatever reason, the players ignore the biome and the lion during summer entirely.

If Antlion really does it, that is another reason to stay in caves during the summer. I've seen it happen only in the desert though

Yes, as far as I know, that is exactly what's going to happen. Sinkholes can appear everywhere, not just in the desert. What is left of your base, after smoldering fires, disease and griefers are done with it, will be destroyed by earth quakes that specifically target you. You can't even hide in the caves anymore because of the cave-ins.

Somehow they managed to find a way to make summer even worse...

Yeah, you can't get away with spending the entire season in the caves anymore if you don't appease the antlion. Look at 4:24 in the video.

Meh, free rocks and decorational boulders don't seem bad to me. In Shipwrecked i never cared about appeassing the volcano because the Dragoon eggs just gave too much free rocks, guess it's gonna be the same here.

Those boulders can also be carried and moved to be used as walls, if placed closed enough to each other. So that's one good thing that comes out of letting the Antlion get mad c:<

Good explanation. This kind of video is useful after every update. The TRIGGERED joke is unfunny though. Also there is a Discord notification sound at 4:38.

Those sinkholes seem brutal. It seems like placating the antlion isn't that hard, especially with tumbleweeds dropping trinkets pretty often, but it seems like just getting to the antlion will be inconvenient. You'll have to deal with both the sandstorm and the summer heat.

It seems other people did enjoy the "triggered" joke. And about the discord sound, I've been recording for more than an hour just to get the cave-in to happen while I'm recording. Meantime I was chatting on Discord, and I had no idea Windows 10's recording software records other sounds aswell. Sorry about that.

You can become a nomad when summer hits. That way you don't have to worry about feeding the Antlion and it won't affect your base. You just gotta be careful with those sinkholes though. They're pretty deadly.

I'm  wondering abaut how ofter should be pay tributes to the And Lion, if we want to keep out summer safe? Enough once, or must every few days? Does the Ant Lion have some kind of "Pleasedness Meter" which depletes with time?...

It does have a "Mood" meter. I don't know how exactly does it function, but I think it goes to "rage" mode after 5 days from default mood (when summer starts)
