Mena's Random Arts of Stuff and Things

Well, that was certainly an eventful stream. Sorry it ended kinda abruptly, but sometimes when my internet goes out it'll come back on and Join.me won't reconnect. I was about to end it anyway, so no biggy. Anyway, here's the fruits of the stream!

First off is Dragon from Wave after Wave. If you haven't been informed on what's happened to her yet, she gains certain abilities from gems she eats. This is a concept for what would happen appearance wise if she ate a purple gem.

Then we have the request doodles that happened near the end of the stream, with happened to be rock, genderbent Zek and Lipton, and mafia ice cream. I took a few liberties.

"Smoke coffee every day." -lard bottle

Oh, uh, and this has nothing to do with the stream, but I figured out how to resize that pixel eye from before.

Ooh, I like your Triumphant Dark Dragon concept ^_^

(Y'know, I actually thought about my dragon Sunrider sometime after I started WaW. I thought he could probably be in the next RP I join, depending on the plot and settings and such. Then a thought just crossed me as I started posting this... what if Sunrider was put into WaW instead of Otto? Then that would be another dragon friend that understands your character, maybe even a new ship! But I'm not sure if Dragon even cares about that kind of stuff...)

Seriously though, I know it gets tired because you've probably heard it over and over again, but practice and effort are essential ingredients for "gitting gud", as it were. Also, if you're just starting out, don't be ashamed of copying (not tracing, mind you. Copying) and using references. You'd be surprised how much you learn from copying pieces without even realizing it, and it's what I did for a good long while before I was gud enough to draw original stuff. And even professionals use references to help with proportions or just things they aren't familiar with. For example, in that dragon piece above I was having trouble getting the wings down, so I looked up some pictures of dragon wings on google to help me get the position and shape of the wings in place.

And one more thing, unless you already have a drawing tablet and pen on hand, I'd recommend starting out on pencil and paper. It doesn't even need to be fancy, just regular paper, pencils, and erasers you have lying around the house. You'll have a much easier time controlling your lines than if you use a mouse, unless you just practice a ton with it like Lipton.

Really.  All of this.  Especially the practice part.  I mean, this is what my art looked like 2 years ago -

And now I've obviously gotten better.  But at the same time, when you say "practice makes perfect", that doesn't mean "fiddle around for a while and you'll get skillz".  You need to actually try.  Experiment new techniques.  Attempt to use methods you've seen elsewhere.  Put a lot of effort into what you create.  It'll take a while, but you'll slowly improve.

Presenting a comic thingy that I put literally zero effort into but I still think is amusing.

(For those of you who don't get it, Weirdo has, or at least had, bandaids in his RP the healed pretty much any injury, and Taylor Swft's song "Bad Blood" has a line in it that goes, "Bandaids don't fix bullet holes. So this happened in my brainy parts.)

Oh, uh, and I wrote some lore(?) for Dragon that I actually did put effort into. That counts as art, right? I'm kinda proud of it a little

Excerpt from "Dragons, Dragons, and more Dragons" Vol. 264:

"... It is better for a dragon to amass their horde gradually, building up their mound a few pieces at a time over an extended period. If a dragon were to come across a large amount of treasure all at once, it is likely that the sudden, strong surge of greed would drive them into madness and paranoia, lashing out at anyone near and forcing them into seclusion where their insanity and delusions would only worsen. Dragons will be nearly impossible to reason with in this state.
While this kind of reaction is typical, some dragons don't appear to be plagued by this problem. Observation seems to dictate that relatively younger, less mature dragons are more likely to succumb to the madness than older, wiser dragons, but it is not conclusive at this point.
In large, tight-knit families or herds of dragons, the method of dealing with this is fairly universal. The strongest of the group will be called to intervene, and the inflicted one will be restrained while their horde is scattered into the ocean or a pit, anywhere that is out of sight and out of reach. The inflicted one will then continue to be contained until the madness has passed, which may take anywhere from a day to several years depending on how far they succumbed. It may be decided that it would be better to leave the maddened one to their own devices depending on the situation and how big or close the heard is.
If you, as a human, stumble upon a dragon you suspect to be in this state, do not approach or try to intervene
. Even the tiniest breeds of dragons can be extremely violent and dangerous in this state of insanity. If you value your life, limbs, face, and other such body parts, leave the intervention to other dragons and stay away..."

I actually remember that happening....

What I remember happening was I told you about this idea and you were like, "I don't get it" and Bug was like "Oh! I get it!" and then I had to explain the joke to you because you hadn't heard the song before.

Pair.

It's pair.

She could've continued her combo by saying that her recently added pair of pear glasses has the pears pared while the pair of pears underneath them were not pared, all of which were resting on a non-pared pear face.
