The change of art colors is confusing

Recommended Posts

First off I want to state I'm not against the change of the art in general.
In fact, the new Werepig art is absolutely gorgeous, look at this!

Absolutely gorgeous improvements.
However, it's the change from Ruins Pink to Red that confuses me.

I'm currently under the assumption the change was done at the request to make him better fit into the ruins, however this... doesn't work, since nothing in the Ruins is actually red. It's all Pink.

The Ruins are under the effect of a strong colorcube which makes them appear visually red. Making something Red and putting it under this colorcube doesn't do anything but dilute the appearance everywhere else.

Previously, in the old iteration of the Pink Werepig, if you were to put him in the Ruins he'd appear red like everything else!
Also, personally speaking I find the Pink to be a way more interesting and unique color choice.
Red feels are more generic, almost like an injured scar, even...

I've made these images to showcase what I mean.

In the previous iteration, he matched EVERYTHING Ruins related! This is awesome!

He even glows red like many imagine when they think of the Ruins.

I hope the team can consider finding a fun middle ground, I appreciate the read.

TLDR: Red feels out of place and uninspired, the new art is gorgeous but the Pink felt more in-line with existing content.

It doesn't look bad in red, but instead of a supernatural effect it now looks like a perfectly natural scar from an injury. It's harder to tell that there's something spooky going on with him apart from how big he is. If that's intentional, then it's effective, but if not, it should probably go back to pink.

The change to red also feels weird when you consider that Pure Terror and Dreadstone; both resources from and associated with the Nightmare Werepig, are pink aswell.

they also changed those to red

The problem is that Werepig are now set outside the ruins. Generally, due to the influence of colorcube, all pink things in the ruins are red. I think red is the representative color of nightmare energy. The reason is that the colorcube in the calm and warning stage makes the rune turf appear inert, while the color cube in the nightmare stage makes it appear "active" and emit red light.

I think that the reason why Werepig were changed to red is to keep consistent with the ruins, as compensation for not being affected by the colorcube. Like the Nightmare Fissure outside the ruins, they are also red.

I'm personally inclined to disagree. The red feels generic and doesn't look to help him fit in with the other ruins items.

Also... while I'm here, I don't actually understand what people mean by the ruins looking red. It's never looked red to me, it looks very pink when I go in there in its active phase.

I had no idea people were complaining about the pink, it's super weird that it was changed.

I even wondered if the red would fit better if he was under the effects of the games nightmare phase saturation modifiers, but nope, pink is much better.

Odd, I hope it can be changed back, I just feel bad for the dev who has to revert the colors.

Sorry, there may be a problem with my description.

In the active stage of the ruins, you see 图片.png.68DF2E77930C3F731A3623DE9B9FD51E.png instead of 图片.png.c509b0e2fede690fd239b35a4f970a2e.png.

The new art is really not as good as the old art in the active stage of the ruins, although they are all red.

The pink/magenta colors for Daywalker and its resources worked better than red imo.

If Klei is trying to do some "oooh these new resources are so evil that they glow red without the influence of the nightmare phase. maybe these are WHAT LURKS BENEATH THE RUINS!!!" stuff then... uhh ok I guess, but this is kind of a generic direction to go in. Nightmare fuel 2.0 and thulecite 2.0 that break the established color scheme. Plus red and black color combo reeks of a totally evil-in-a-cool-way OC do not steal, their eyes turn red when they're angry and they wear all black, very very evil and bad and-

Same applies to the pig. Looked better in magenta, red could be mistaken for scars, all the stuff that folks have already said

I think the red needs to glow imo, like people have pointed out, ruins pink is a by product of colour cubemap which makes the ruins red in the active phase.

But nightmare pig doesn't have this glow, unlike the ruin red during active phase.

Something else I'd like to add is that; in color theory; the color Purple is most often associated with corruption and evil. Such as with Badeline from Celeste

Or the corruption from Terraria

So thematically, the pink/purple from previous versions of the Nightmare Werepig, Pure Terror, and Dreadstone makes much more sense than the current red.

Am I the only person who thinks it looks way better this way? From an artistic point of view. Sure, maybe give it some glow and maybe even a few shades more pink, but it looks a lot cooler. Instead of looking like one of those dime-a-dozen generic mods.

personally i think having the final effect being red is much better. pink is a nice color but i dont feel terrified with pink, red is better related to danger, which tells me i should be wary of it

i 100% think it should match the color of the ruins, so if they arent spawning in the ruins with the effects/filters and such it should be red, not pink. now, if it DOES have the ruins effects/filters then it should have the same color as everything there, because otherwise its gonna look off

My thoughts exactly. The red looks too edgy, the pink is nice contrast at the very least

I wasn't a fan of the pink for the aboveground, but I think if it is going to be in caves it could probably work if people really want it. Not a big fan of how the armour looks in pink, but if it were sourced from caves I think the colour would at least feel more justified.

I do like the new colours, personally.
