The entire RoT arc would only last 7-8 months if Klei decided to focus purely on it.

No, it would not.

Most of the content updates take a few months to make (e.g. work on Eye of the Storm began in January, but it was released in late April-early May) and the refreshes, new characters and QoL updates are typically 1-programmer projects that help to keep the player base occupied between those content updates.

While it wouldn't solve the problem. I've always wanted an alternative recipe for royal jelly that's essentially a sanity version of jellybeans. I'm playing Wanda a lot and i've no idea what to do with the royal jellies since jellybeans are useless for me lol.

I know there's forget-me-lots, but idk soothing tea I haven't really found that great personally

I turn them into taffy, 1 royal jelly and 3 sticks haha.

I'm worrying about game's difficulty - it becomes easier and easier with every update, and it loses it's charm of "uncompromising survival game".

Looks like Klei are targeting younger and "more casual" audience so more people can play their game without quitting in a few hours.

upon talking about this issue, do u think the types of game(eg. cooperation and madness) seem to be useless? Its only use is to filter rooms with different modes in the server selection hall.

I'm wandering if it is possible to create a difficulty system where players can freely choose the difficulty of the server and make corresponding adjustments to the whole world to meet the needs of players at different stages?

Idk, it's bedtime. My head is a mass of grommer poop. Good night, everyone:bee:

1. Between "I liked it" and "I'm glad we're getting content monthly". Chose "I liked it", because I'm satisfied enough.

2. I don't mind it.

3. Art style, as usual. I still greatly prefer the old "moody, gloomy, slightly creepy" aesthetic over the new cartoonish and colorful one.

4. It stayed the same. Kinda neutral, but closer to not liking it, but thankfully nothing bad seems to have come out of it.

5. Year of the Beefalo - the event itself is meh, it's way too slow and repetitive. What made this update good is the beefalo changes, most importantly the beefalo bell and the ability to pick things up while riding a beefalo.
March QoL - to be fair, I don't remember what this update did, besides changes to world settings, which is cool, I guess, it made them reasonable instead of "more = absolutely everywhere".
Wes rework - didn't care much for Wes before or after, but I appreciate this update making Wes use less durablity on tools and weapons.
Eye of the Storm - The enlightened crown is the highlight of the update for me, and celestial champion is one of my favorite bosses now. (the fact that you can retreat without resetting the fight is really nice). But as everyone else already said, moon storms aren't good and the lack of craftables with moon glass is disappointing.
Midsummer Cawnival - the event is whatever, but it does make a nice looking set piece for a megabase build.
Webber rework - It made Webber feel better and more convenient to use than before.
Waterlogged - fantastic update, I love the big trees.
Wanda - fantastic character and I really enjoyed playing her.
October QoL - autopause is nice, pick/axe wasn't buffed enough (though I still started using them, especially after weaving the Terraria pickaxe axe skin)
Terraria crossover - the bosses are fun, the skins are some of the best and the update made me start playing Terraria. I'd prefer if the shield had more durablity though.
Wolfgang rework - Didn't make me interested in playing the character.

useless bath bombs

this kind of things or how most mobs and bosses dont know how to interact with sea content is what makes me fear, improvisation is good but no all the danm time and these kind of things (updates that step over previous and recent updates) shows that klei is improvising each update which can lead with things like bath bombs being useless after few months because of the grotto and the grotto being useless after CC update... or cc crown making Bernie useless, woodie interacting in a frustrating way with moon storm (mutant woodie when?) and other examples i dont recall...

i get that they need constant updates to make the game keep growing but they should have a more solid plan

Looks like a good year to me as it's always welcome when a game has active development, gameplay speaking... just yeah, we can complain there and there about most of the updates being a little too shy in the content they're adding, whatever if it is the promising concepts that didn't made it in the games, new crafting items being having less and less uses every new ones, or so many things already discussed there, most of the RoT and latest updates (such as Waterlogged) could have got relatively farther by adding a bit more and that's what would have make the year perfect imo. Anyhow it was still good, the QoLs were great, I'm looking forward the next ones if there are any other planned and the character reworks had good intentions, I'm just not a huge fan of how it went probably just because the characters main utility doesn't fit me and haven't got too much diversity compared to fresh new released characters (Walter / Wanda). But good job Klei.

As it's in the poll and title, I think I'll have a word on Tencent quickly too. I still hate on the company for their greed and methods that never change so my opinion remains the same. However clearly Klei didn't go out of their way (looks like) about what they said on their game(s) so it's a relief to see how it went as it was my main concern, rare are the ones that get a good outcome from dealing with the devil.

Hope we'll have a sweet roadmap too for 2022 to... Happy holidays everyone. :wilson_vforvictory:

The changes to how Beefalo behave when bell bonded the customization of them (and all those were given free instead of being paid dlc skins)

Marches QoL added a HUGE change to the game: y’all complaining about it being “Too Easy” when this exact update fixed that.. You can now toggle how often, how many, how little, or none at all each individual effect, mob or thing in the game happens- You can set wildfires to MORE (the one feature majority of you on the forums admit you turn off) Theres also some patch notes that clearly state: Tuned shadow monsters to be more difficult if toggled to “More” Want your game harder? Stop playing on Default settings and go actually find out what the March update did- (obviously my favorite update)

Wes, Webber, Wanda & Even Wolfgang’s reworks were fun I like that they each feel unique & different to play as now

Global Pause is a god send update, I literally prayed to god Klei would show Mercy upon people like myself with an overactive Bladder problem, and add an actual pause feature: so I’m extremely glad they added that in..

The one update I did not like was Eye of the Storm, and that’s only because it takes 8+ hours to even experience, I prefer content I can enjoy in short burst sessions something I can experience in 30 minutes time, but that’s a personal “Me” thing.

What I would’ve loved however is if Peepers from the Terraria update could’ve spawned from dimensional rifts in the sky without the Boss accompanying them (basically being a new version of hound waves)

In fact I’ma go ahead and start making my 2022 content wishes:

I want the game shaken at its very foundation: Klei you gave me a menu full of things I can toggle on/off/more/less-

the Mobile version of DS has the option to spawn into the game with an already reduced health core, why is this not an option in DST??

Why is there a world Gen setting for Terraria if there’s not much Terraria stuff in it? (Assuming your partnership with them is long-term) I would like to see more mobs, and biomes when playing under this setting from Terraria.

As someone who went out of there way to buy a next gen gaming console: I would also like to know what your plans are (if any) in Supporting those next gen consoles: I Strongly feel like you guys still developing content for older Hardware is preventing Newer Hardware from getting the larger more content rich updates they should be capable of.

So on the 2022 Roadmap I would like to know if a “Expanded & Enhanced” Edition of DST will be made available-

Similar to how people who owned the older Minecraft could upgrade to the new version for a discount of only 5$ if they already owned the game.

Overall though: the folks at Klei continue to inform me that Tencent has no involvement in what they do with DS, DST, ONI & that they still hold full creative freedom over them, I genuinely trust in JoeWs words, he’s a pretty cool dude: so I’m not going to worry about the whole “Tencent” thing.

What I WILL worry about however: Is if his Nana bought into that whole story he fed her about the Fuchsia bath towels in the back closet.

Overall it was okay. I, personally didnt really care for any of the updates really except maybe Wanda.. I think its time though for something big. DST very much feels like a dead horse and with each new update we pull out the recessitators and shock it and the horse jolts up and twitches a bit before falling back down. I want an update that gets this horse to gallop again.

Please, please, p l e a s e let them turn their attention to base game content now that RoT is done. I'll be writing up my yearly plea asking them in January but until then i still hope thats the direction they are mpving towards. We need more content updates like Reap What You Sow, boss refreshes and the big one seasons refresh with more in depth weather and survival mechanics.

that would be cool, is sad that they have little impact in the game (sometimes you dont need to fight them dduring the boss fight...)

the problem here is that setting something dangerous in "more" can cause you to have an easy time gathering their loot or setting something in "less" could, instead of making the game more difficult, just more tedious or grindy or setting things in "none" blocks content

is a good thing to have, ofc, but would be very cool if klei increase the difficulty over time (with the option of being able to make that things happend earlier or later with the world settings) so we finally stop surviving the same 4 season over and over and over. 1 in game year is 74(?) days which is only ~10h...

i understand this and is okey you share it so klei can take it into account but also i think that DST isnt a "short burts sessions" game like it looked back when DS appear and nobody knew how to survive but now we have easy ways to revive, rollbacks and a lot of old fans that already got tired of the "rogelite" experience. Having things to do in late game is something so important. If wasnt because of ANR arc i would drop the game after few hundred hours instead of having 4000h. And that only with some raid bosses, now imagine new weathers, new dangers for each old weather, etc

progression in a sand box game is so needed because right know is "i build fancy stuff while i repeat over and over the same content"

with how the game is being monetized (skins for base building) they will keep adding late and mid game stuff if they are smart (ofc they should add more early game stuff tho) or people wont build for being tired of the same 74 days cycle...

The Tencent money I think helped Klei make these better updates so that's good, but Tencent still a bad company and I don't like it and once they start doing more monetization than we already have with skins I'll know Tencent started to gain more control and everything's gonna start going to manure.

As for updates the only update I actually disliked something was the year of the beefalo's beefalo skins, some of them look very out of place and have almost no details and just don't like they belong in this game...

I hope in the future we will get new things which completely add a new depth to the game like the ocean was with RoT, like elevated lands, a tall mountain and skygliding, a nightmare dimension... or something just totally epic (LIKE HAMLET AND SHIPWRECKED TOGETHER :D). I also hope they do more QoL updates with QoL additions and higher res textures and stuff.. maybe one day I'll finally be able to switch my offline world into an online world too after a few years :wilson_dorky:!

I think what everyone hasn’t realized just yet is that even IF Klei added new weather seasons or more islands/biomes, or a progressively more difficult world as days pass-They all eventually fall into the same category as current game content: You eventually become familiar with it & you know where to go to gather X resource for Y purpose.

You know what to expect & what to do, if you check out my recent contribution to the screenshots thread that Swamp Tentacle that was in my Lunar Island actually managed to smack me a few times because I built a campfire near it and simply never thought a swamp tentacle would ever happen on Lunar turf so it hit me unexpectedly: Which is more then I can say for Swamp Tentacle in the swamp or surrounding the Large Tentacles in caves- these you KNOW will be in these areas and you come prepared for them.

I think no matter how many new biomes, weather effects or mobs Klei add to this game: Unless there’s a variable of unpredictability: not knowing where to go or what to expect- You will still become familiar & even bored of it eventually.

My thread wanting RNG Mob encounters covers a few “problems” I have with this franchise-

The first of which is every biome has its own mobs & content so you go into it knowing what to expect and how to prepare for it.

The second of which is that biomes with very little content inside them would actually have some wildlife & feel less bare.

But most importantly of all: what sold me on this game was its product description: “Explore Randomly Generated Worlds where almost everything hates you & wants you to die.”

Of course: NOW I know those worlds aren’t fully randomly generated at first it feels this way, but once you become familiar with a biomes mobs, weather & resources it no longer feels like your exploring randomly generated worlds.

This is a problem that even the NEWER content updates continue to have: & it’s something I’d like to see them addressing throughout 2022-2023.

Because just getting new weather, new biomes, updated biomes etc… still have that “I’ll get used to this” feeling.

Which I can’t say I could have ever gotten used to being smacked by a swamp Tentacle that I wasn’t expecting to come out the ground on my Lunar Island. This wasn’t tampered with or modded, the world just generated the island close enough to a swamp biome that the island itself ended up getting Swamp Resources- And I found that brief moment of NOT expecting Swamp hazards/resources in an area I knew darn well would not have them: To be exciting new & fun.

Now if only the entire game could throw predictability out the window.

This year was a quite slow.

The first half had YotB and the Cawnival which only lasted one month, EotS was lacking for a content update and the content it had was for very late game and the QoL February was most useful when creating new worlds.

After Waterlogged it got better with the new ocean biome and the increase of boats speed, Wanda is a fun and interesting character, October's QoL was nice and the Terraria crossover was, for lack of a better term, epic.

That being said and if they kept their promise of keeping control of their games development, then the mediocrity of this year can only be blamed on Klei themselves. I just hope that next year will be better.

but each run will have more content which leads to less repetitive runs

just having CC as new boss adds a lot of fun to the boss farming loop for example

To be completely honest, as long as Charlie doesn`t take over the main menu demanding my bank account information for forgotten knowledge I would be happy with anything. That is simply because more anything/updates = more game= more fun.

If they fix Wes (because they made him a joke instead of actually trying to improve on his character without nerfing him to 75 health and has terrible hunger issues because of 75 hunger) You can made a 'hard' character good by giving some reason to play like with the balloons! Why not a temporary raft wes could make that others can't use without it popping? Go on the concept that he's skinny and lightweight! And I still am mad that they nerfed Woodie being able to summon treegaurds in his Beaver form as for roleplay I'd have Werebever woodie go on a massive rampage to purposefully do it for plot! Now it takes ages to get a SINGLE treegaurd. Also I'd like them to add the sanity when planting trees but lower it to a smaller amount if it was too OP, I love planting trees for fun and it FIT that Woodie CARES about the trees and isn't just a "I kill tree's for fun" character!

I really can't see how anyone could even derive a change Klei has made as a result of being a part of Tencent. DST has ostensibly stayed on the same path it's been on for awhile now. There's been no overt attempt at egregious monetization, and the core principles of the game seem to have remained the same.

This year has been great for DST. The content updates and quality of life especially have been fantastic. Wanda is an amazing addition to the cast, and the Terraria crossover is a breath of fresh air while also not being as gimmicky as I thought it would turn out to be (not even at all, really)

I'm not a huge fan of the character refreshes personally, but I believe Klei has done a fantastic job since partnering with Tencent, and I would bet a large sum of money that they will continue to love this game for awhile.

Honestly shocked to see that people are afraid that the art/lore aspects of the game are in danger considering those are two of the biggest facets this game has going for it. Klei has remained incredibly consistent with them, and has only improved those qualities since partnering with Tencent.

Can't wait to see where 2022 takes this game!

Edit: Forgot to mention we got 64-bit this year as well. That was HUGE. I nearly started to tear up when I heard the news.

Personally I hope next year allows the devs to recycle unused concepts for next year. Those Pearl concepts would be great for a pirate skeleton crew and I know besides myself that people would love to see those mossball creatures canonized.

they should make an update adding unused things to complete previous updates with stuff like the lilipad mob, otters, the moon island changes during the moonstorm, all the discarded grotto things (the mothowl MUST be added), etc

i hate when things get cut because of time... i mean, there is time later to complete them if they really want to do monthly updates or just dont release updates until most things are prepared

i prefer bigger updates even if they are split

Don’t forget that in a few short months the game will be coming to Nintendo platforms for the first time ever: They’re not going to suddenly just stop content updates if the game is coming to a new platform of players, there’s still a lot of DST still to come, and I hope even though some people won’t be happy about it:

They save Wilson & Maxwells reworks to be released at the same time on the 10th anniversary of the Dont starve franchise (Aka about 13 months from now give or take)

I think it’s only fair that the hero & villain of the original game get the 10yr Anniversary spotlight- oh and huge lore reveals!
