player choice [Poll] Which characters DON'T you like?

So the two I chose were Wolfgang and WX-78, and before anybody snaps my neck hear me out.

Wolfgang, while having a fun personality and charming quotes, is a very basic concept for a character in a game like this. Eat get big, don't eat get small. He supposedly has a phobia of all things scary, but apart from quotes, this really means nothing. He doesn't really come across as scared, both in his "downside" and appearance. (still find it funny that he has one of the angriest faces in DST and that does not change when getting scared.)

WX-78, for me, is a character who's perks are tied to random chance or ruins. I can't seem to play 10 days casually as the Soulless Automaton without getting called out for not having the entire ruins cleared yet. Their overcharge mechanic relies on Spring, someone dying and reviving at a touchstone (but most usually quit the game), or Wickerbottom. Their eating gears mechanic relies on ruins, tumbleweed chance, or compromising early iceboxes/ice flingomatic for stat gain.

Their "damaged by water" downside feels non-existent, and the ability to eat stale/spoiled food is cool for prolonging I suppose, but when people make food it's usually consumed instantly or they plan to consume it in the next 2 minutes in a fight or something.

 

My only hopes for their reworks is that they are given some fun new additions that make them interesting to play, the character ideas are solid, just slightly dated, in my opinion, of course!

Picked Wurt for being pretty much a waste of spools/money. I mean you can really just do most things that Wurt does as any other character, maybe even better (besides befriending merms). If you want to chop trees faster you already have Woodie and Maxwell for that, if  you want automatic farms you have Winona and Wickerbottom. If you like the downside of not being able to eat meat, well you can do that as any other character. If you want a cutesy character to play as there´s already Webber and Wormwood (don´t know why we need a third). Plus I find it kinda sad that a dst exclusive character has less team synergy then a single player character like Wormwood, you could argue that Winona doesn´t have much synergy either, but atleast her tape can be used on bernie thus having some synergy with Willow. Then you look at Wurt and what does she have ? Fish and the ability to waste Wicker´s books. Why people play Wurt is beyond me.

The outcome of Wendy's rework (because I didn't like low hp - bigger damage mechanic she was given at first) was the best rework in my opinion, but it was really the Quality of Life changes she got that made this rework SOOO GOOD.

Ever since the rework I was dreaming of a Pokéball Abigail's Flower skin (even though I don't like such references because it kills immersion).

I don't like saying which character is "the worst" because I think they'll all pretty good, the only one I could honestly vote for is Wolfgang and Wx.

Wolfgang is very strong, no doubt at all, but he's so underwhelming to play, especially without a healthbar mod, because then nothing feels like its changed. His speed boost is probably the best part tbh it works pretty well for being so small. Also his character is a little bland for my taste, and he should be scared of things, currently it's completely un-noticeable.

Wx is no where close, but He also needs more to him. His overcharge is great, no doubt, it makes him fast, immune to freezing and a lamp. Him eating gears is much more of a problem in DST than in DS, and it's mostly because I only ever get around 4 -6 gears per world on average. Wx eating these gears doesn't even feel important, it gives him bloated stats, which is nice, just underwhelming.

Maybe Wilson? I didn't vote for him, but I think the best thing for him is to give him some good healing alternatives, similar to the healing salve, but either cheaper in cost, or more effective in use (like 40 or 30 health for a decent cost). Wilson being a sort of makeshift doctor would be pretty nice, not much else, just more healing options for him.

i think is wendy she is a good character to play , but her personality is what makes me don't like her , idk is very annoying the ''im very sad, im empty , die cute thing'' etc, of course this is my opnion

As for OP, I myself don't like Wolfgang because "CHUG-CHUG Machine" - aka to permanently benefit his perks one should eat constantly (a thing I despise as play-style goes), Warly since in early-to-mid game he's a food vacuum without any benefits aside "I eat fancy, huehue!" (or stuff it full of Meaty Stews and Meatballs, the equivalent of a whole party in 1 lackluster personage) plus Wurt, the most selfish character via play-style - not to mention even advanced players on Endless pubs tend to build Merms close to communal base to only forget feeding king (if any was even present) for the utter "delight" of any other player there that becomes a 24/7 Pinata flamingo. And Maxwell, the "wind-blows-me-away 1/2 HP, but I can scratch my mansack idly while shadows mush&push".

I'm surprised I have a lot of choices in common with people commenting their characters. I, too, don't like Wolfgang, Warly, Wurt and Walter. Wolfgang is just double damage and his personality is eh. I don't like Warly's downside and I especially hate volt goat jelly because it doesn't work with morning star. Wurt is too much investment for not much reward, plus she barely works well with anyone. Walter's sanity drain from taking damage is quite annoying and the slingshot isn't too useful.

It's just a way of expressing himself and that's fine, he enjoys spending time on the forums like the rest of that and that is completely okay, simply giving a reaction to something is by no means bad. I enjoy seeing the different people on the forums, it gives it alot of character, which I think helps build a community.

Also as for mod characters as a whole, they usually lack a lot of depth and I quickly lose interest in them, they aren't really great for long term.

Walter is a strange case and should be tweaked to be a little simpler, especially with the sanity around trees (why though) and other strange perks like that.

Plus, yeah, mods are extremely helpful if anybody have a very specific issue with an existing characters (or even mods about mod characters), I couldn't count how many tweak mods there is for Wolfgang, Wendy and company, I've found some I like for Maxwell that are worth a rework for the base characters, so I believe mods are important and deserve more respect in the community.

For me it is Warly, I just can’t seem to like a cooking character.. it’s just not fun. Maybe I’ll eventually warm up to him but for now he’s gotta easily be my least favorite character in the entire game followed closely by Wes- But Wes was perfectly fine and balanced in Solo DS, it’s only in Multiplayer that he becomes a waste of resources..

I hope when they actually rework Wes they buff him but they buff him in a way that does not directly benefit Wes.

Such as being able to craft Unicorn balloons to truly bestow Wigfrid with the power of the Unicorn. Or to simply have a Bonus damage multiplier applied when he attacks things that are being bestowed with Abigails petal damage buff.

Simple stuff that makes it so the challenges people pick in playing as Wes do not also effect other people who did NOT pick Wes and do not wish to be brought down by Wes’s challenges impacting them (for example- Wigfrid will need to craft more Spears and Helms for Wes then normal because no matter how skilled the Wes player is.. the Character design itself still wastes through them faster then if you’d had picked any other character. Wendy’s petal Bestowment buff removed her downsides of hitting weaker, but it removed it and replaced it with a Multiplayer friendly buff.. and that’s where I wanna see Wes go.

Still though- my vote for personal least favorite to play as is Warly which to be honest does make me quite sad because he does have some pretty great skins, I just completely suck at playing as him.
