Are we close to the final release of the game?

Recommended Posts

@watermelen671 has compiled a bunch of unused art assets in this thread that suggest that the lore will soon be fleshed out.  After that, a win condition is all that's really needed to call this game complete.  So I'm going to guess that we are indeed approaching a full release of the game.  That said, I have no doubt that Klei will continue to expand the game with further features and new resources even after release.

Yup. Had gone through it. Most of those arts+new buildings can be easily implemented in just 1 update.

Hope the devs planned for a lot more than whats currently in the game. Currently, game has plenty of diversity, but needs a lot more content to be a full fledged game.

Hopefully a multi ending scenario like that of surviving mars game will be implemented. Since the game is quite a lengthy one, a multi ending with different crisis/events at the endgame will be awesome and will sustain replayability until that many scenarios.

I definitely think more content and rebalancing is needed before the game can be considered complete, I wouldn't expect a full release before 2019.

The game is only okay in it's current state because it's early access. With the release of the updates that give you a really good reason to start over, the game play just falls apart as you start to run out of resources.

Considering something like MachaVillian and Surviving Mars released before they where finished, I might end up being wrong and it will be released in it's current broken state.

You are jumping to conclusions, Prasath. (and i fail to see the benefit of this question apart from that one business executive who stumbles over it on the forum and thinks "wait, the players are already satisfied? lets wrap it and sell the next piece of game!")

If i am not mistaken kLei would communicate it to their EA-participants ahead of time (and maybe cream it with an extra release update), if they leave early access.

If you have participated in the prison architect EA, you would have experienced that they stretched their EA period over roughly 3 years (which won them a BAFTA award). At the end of that time they carefully told the community over the course of several monthly release videos, that they felt that the game had reached a state of saturation.

Since kLei is doing something very similar (at least 1 video stream per update) and there is zero sight of lack of ideas or enthusiasm, i would place my bets on that there is a pretty glamorous road ahead of us.

There are also countless loose ends, that i still expect to get stitched together:

  • more backstory (which is even announced in the very first sticky thread on this foru)
  • more interactions with chlorine
  • better handling of high temperature materials
  • more elements (propane, silver, etc are in the game files already)
  • flameable implementation (might have been dismissed, but the recent datamining hints otherwise)
  • dupe interactions (see roadmap again)

There is material for at least another year of updates and that does not include the stuff that kLei (and the community) still has in store on their hidden sketch boards and inside their heads.

Klei has released multiple games with an EA phase and always finished them, so I think we can be optimistic here.

I was thinking of major events like The Forge and the upcoming Gorge, the holiday events and the release of critters like the Bee Queen.

There is no survival content after misery toadstool. (more than a year ago) 3 weeks of event and you can forget about the game for the next 11 months

.. i hope you're being sarcastic here because like,

Like Man in the Mist said, they are still developing and releasing events, though admittedly at a slower rate than they were originally updating the game at.
