They changed the Algae Terrarium

Recommended Posts

It wasn't in any of the patch notes (I think), but now Algae Terrarium now consume only a fraction of the water they receive, most of it gets converted into polluted Water inside the "building", and then needs to be emptied by a Duplicant. I guess they are more viable now?algae.thumb.png.6d5368a368d122cd33630a4936ada926.png

That makes them more viable as a temporary solution in the early game, but long term they're even more useless now than they were before.  The problem wasn't just the water consumption, it was the delivery time required to keep them watered.  Now that workload is doubled if we have to manually clear out polluted water.

I disagree, I think they're more viable now over any time frame.  Is it viable to build a ton of them and/or rely on them for your primary oxygen source? No, but it never was.  They're now more useful to me, for the use I put them to.

You could hose them down via flooding, requiring only  algae deliveries.  All this means is the end of the terrarium pit will have a PH2O output and a filter now to recycle the H2O back in while sending the PH2O elsewhere.  Bit more power requirements on water circulation for a lot more return.  Early game is usually much better dealt with by simply digging a CO2 pit and moving on with life.

What I'm interested in is the 40g of O2 for 30g of Algae with almost no water waste (10g/s insetead of the 300 g/s it used to be).  Deoxydizer drops 500 g/s O2 for 550 g/s Algae.  Considering usually that 10 g/s of the H2O would net to 8.88 g/s of O2 and 1.12 g/s of Hydrogen, it's actually a minor gain now, especially early game.  No power costs, no heat generation, and you can bulk flood large quantities of them.

This... might actually become good!

Who do you get Dupes to empty it? I turned up Life Support and Tidy on a Dupe and gave it a P9, but they won't touch it.

Good question.   I've made someone jobless and cycled though all the priories and no one wants to touch it it seems!!   its driving me crazy... must be a bug.

Been complaining about these for a while, glad they're taking a crack at balancing them. Sad that it's MORE STUFF NOT IN THE PATCH NOTES.  (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)

Edit: Also I'm having a very hard time with sweep and bottling orders in general with the MK1 update.

'Patch' isn't out yet. It's a preview. Be glad that they threw together an overview of features, because that's already generous.
