I picked 'No, it does not fit my playstyle'

I don't do it myself, so I have no idea if it's broken or not. I just went years (in game years, lol) without a cane that I got used to it I guess. I don't feel like I'm at a disadvantage, I know how to kite, I know exactly how many times I can hit something before having to fall back.

I have tried the cane thing though, but I found myself too overconfident that I really could get another hit in and run again, but I always got smacked back. I know how to do it without and I'll stick to that. Of course I use the cane for everything else, picking, farming, all that, but kiting? Not for me.

The cane is my go-to item,  even when just standing around the campfire, it's always on hotkey #1 in my inventory... it's not a necessity, but it is a luxury, and why can't we have nice things in the wilderness? I say, it's fine... unless we're talking about PvP then by Jove gitgud kind sir... <3 and Happy Feast of Winter Ve-- Happy Winter's Feast O__O

lol.

>Combat is trivial

Yeah because the cane deals so much damage and does such an amazing boost that even with horrible ping, you will just slaughter everything, right?

Cane is very helpful but it is by no way OP. It's a luxury item with a bunch of uses that pretty much everyone will have and or use. And it's good as is.

I've always viewed walking canes as kiting training wheels. Although it does help you escape when you got horrible ping. It actually has saved me a couple of times, but other than that I don't really use it that often. You can kite almost anything if you get the timing down, including the dragonfly.

And besides, I'd rather have a weapon on-hand instead of a cane while fighting. I'm more about damage output than speed.

I very, very rarely get a walking cane, so usually it's not an issue.  This playthrough I lucked into one very early on by a skeleton, so I mainly used it to help explore more quickly.  Then I made maps for everyone!  :)   Also when I had to run a couple gauntlets on the way back from exploring--a corridor of killer bees right near the Dragonfly's lair.  After that I didn't really need it to escape danger, but I kept it on anyway so I could get back before dark.

Using it in combat _specifically_ notsomuch, unless you count using it to run away.  In actual combat I tend to equip, like, an actual weapon, and use that.  If, say, the hounds show up and I think I have a chance, I'll drop pack, throw on suit and stand my ground to STAB THINGS IN THE FACE.  If not, I'll try to make it to the nearest other dangerous thing such as tallbirds, killer bees, spiders etc. and let them fight each other.

I don't kite so much in general.  I usually either just kinda facetank like an idiot or make the game fight itself for me.  : P

...Notorious

There's no "Middle" option.

I use it for some things. Deerclops? No. Toadstool? Yeah. I don't exactly whip out the walking stick so i can be 25% more sanic to run away from those big hairy ice spikes when I already know how to avoid the giant ice spikes. My main problem with the cane is my mind still makes me walk the distance away I normally do, but with the cane I'm now 25% farther from what I'm fighting which gives the enemy a chance to move which screws up all the timing.

Well in the way that the attacks will never run out like if you used a weapon. There should be a lance weapon however that one could use to add it's attack to the beefalo's. Or maybe you could just ram into things to do damage with it like clockwork rooks.

You don't have to feed the cane or give it salt.

Maybe you dont! ...

My spoiled walking cane gets only the bestest best. I had to destroy 15 mactusks families and made a personal collection of 7 tams to get him.
