Animal Crafting Sucks

Recommended Posts

Reasons:

- Mobs should be incorporated into the world through new game mechanics, like for example how Smallbirds hatch from Tallbirds or Glommer travels for the flower. These details give life to world. Crafting animals into existence just ruins the immersion for me, and its just cheap and lacks creativity.

- There's no challenge to it. Recipes are incredibly simple and once you get them you don't even have to feed them. Extra-Adorable Lavae and Smallbirds are engaging because they are difficult to obtain.

- Also the idea that this is the only way we can get skins is ridiculous. But anyway, NEW MECHANICS > SKINS. Skins are nice and all, but they don't make the game.

I really feel like this game is loosing sight on what's important.

You don't craft an animal out of its den. With food. And remaining parts of their bigger familiars which could pretty much smell like mum for them. They follow you everywhere. One could say your critter thinks you are his mum, who happens to be riperoni since you have their item.

Makes perfect sense to me.

I feel that they should AT LEAST spawn from different areas...

I agree with you that this mechanic is not well thought through. That all crtters are hiding in a cave and waiting for someone to lure them with food is not good enough. It would be more awesome if you could snatch them while they are in a egg or you have to give the corresponding mother a food item which makes them getting a baby and you have to steal it from it while the babies  are blind and helpless. This way it would be more difficult to obtain and more fun.

Yeah right, I can also go play a pets simulator. Or keep playing DST where I have the option to go get a cute follower if I ever feel like.

May as well murder your pet's biological parents in cold blood? (ready my darksword)

And eat their raw meat right after.

No challenge at all and incredibly simple eh?

The Vargling requires you to at least kill a few hounds (yeah, not that challenging)

Kittykit requires you to kill some catcoons and get some fish (again, not to hard, but still something to do)

Ewelet requires you to kill the Ewecus which is a pretty hard to find and can be somewhat of a challenging battle. Also need guacamole which requires cactus and moles.

Broodling requires you to kill the Dragonfly. It is essentially a replacement for the Extra-Adorable lavae except less volatile. Enough said.

And GlomGlom needs you actually obtain glommer and have a way of getting some honey. (nothing too hard, but still, not a walk in the park)

Saying theres "No challenge to it" Is a straight up fabrication for some of the pets. It's not like a new player can spawn in and go immediately grab a pet. They all require a bit of work behind them. Some more than others. And saying "Smallbirds are engaging because they are difficult to obtain"... wat. you just pick up the egg and hatch it.

Also I'll argue you do have to feed them because they keep begging until you do. :>

Don't you get it they want you to cut off an arm and leg put them in a krampus sack carry the sack to the altar of snakeifice  so you can fight a beast master to get your useless annoying cute pet as an award.

You could easily mod this in if you wanted: make the vargling only adoptable at a hound mound; kittykit at a hollowed stump; broodling at any lava pool; glomglom at the glommer statue. The ewelet could keep the current prefab.

That's not it. My point is that they should be added NATURALLY to the world. Like for example, Catcoon having a kittykit following her in the wild.

The thing is pets are cute fun followers. That's all. It shouldn't be difficult to obtain something that just looks nice or its not worth the effort.

That just sounds like a massive waste of potential to me.

Might as well get them in a gift/present drop.

(you do know you can multi quote)

Probably because they won't change it. Seriously theres no need to keep making threads about it. Keep it to one thread.

Then I'd feel bad for kidnapping an animals child.

That's your opinion. To me, and many other people, we love em. Keeps you company and are cute. Much like pets IRL

All these threads complaing about OPTIONAL fun stuff. We get it already.  This is like when tf2 added taunts and hats and acted like "IT WAS THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT". Not everyone has the same "Serious" only tastes as you so Klei tries to balance both because they don't appeal to only you. Alot of people enjoy the pets which are just cosmetic things to have around to make things fun. the game isnt forcing you to have a pet. Don't be a grumpy face

They could do something I'm ok if they do nothing its not like I go to get kitty kat wanting it to hunt for me like a tailbird or catch birds the other cats do that

I don't see the probably with that unless its a varling or a dragonling good job player you killed the dragon fly boss or killed 3 hound packs for your vargling your reward IS A PET THAT DOES ABSOLUTLY NOTHING CONGULATIONS might as well be a moving pet rock for all I care

I'm glad someone made the tf2 comparison. I hate it. I hate games that break the immersion for silly and goofy crap. The old developers would never have done this.

Completely agree with you, the cosmetics are getting a little out of hand. The first 3 sets of outfits all fit the artstyle, Shadow, Survivor and Formal. They all looked nice and made sense. Now look at the chest skins, some of them are really tacky and out of place. Same thing with pets and skins. If things continue this way, won't be long before we get burning unusual pets, avaliable from Maxwell chests that can be opened with a $2.49 key.
