Will everyone get a skill tree?

Recommended Posts

I think the tree was a compromise between keeping Wilson beginner-friendly and giving him late game stuff, so that newbies won't have access to irri gems and cheap marble. Other characters don't need it and it would be pretty annoying. Imagine if Wicker lost the ability to craft her books and you had to replay the game basics with her to regain them back.

I can’t play the beta so I can’t accurately judge how the Wilson Rework actually works, but.. I have played every other rework and most of them (If not all of them..) follow the same pattern:

The reworks made the character need to gather resources they originally did NOT Need or fill up inventory spaces with new craftable items.

(example Wendys Rework now has anyone who actually wants to EFFECTIVELY play Wendy strolling around in graveyards engaging in Wendy exclusive find lost stuffs mini games to obtain a Wendy Exclusive crafting ingredient (mourning glories) in order to craft and fill up your inventory slots  with Ectoherbology potions to use on Abigail. In addition to this: Wendy’s now also need to gather Ashes & Flower Petals to build Sisturns. Wickerbottom: A full Library of Books, Wolfgang: Work Gym Ingredients and Dumbells..)

I’m on console and can’t play the Wilson Beta but I also don’t know how I feel about a character specific skill tree that does NOT having him needing to gather and fill his inventory up with resources or craftable items he didn’t originally need.

This has been the trend of EVERYREWORK- Willows now need to seek out Beefalo Fur & Beard Hair, Hounds Teeth & Silk to craft Bernie Dolls and Sewing Kits.

So I’m really confused as to why Wilson would have a Skill tree that persists through game saves.. or for that matter how it even works, and if it’s fair to other characters who need to now juggle a variety of resources around in their very limited inventory slots to get the most potential out of their reworked playstyles.

I will not be able to accurately judge this information until this rework leaves Beta and arrives on Xbox consoles..

I absolutely think so. Joe mentioned the next roadmap is delayed due to it containing spoilers related to this next update. I have a feeling that the roadmap will involve a second wave of refreshes to all characters which will just involve them getting a skill tree with added progression and leveling up. WHICH I AM ALL FOR. Of course, this could also be related to the new boss that's been added but I don't understand how a vague description of a content update in the roadmap would be spoiled by the Wilson Refresh unless it involved skill trees for all.

I think I would be really disappointed if after several years of half the focus being on characters, that they decide to go over them, again. And I doubt it'll happen, the reworks were something even Klei had mentioned they were a bit tired of a while ago.

I think the next roadmap spoiling the next update has to do with the giant Nightmare Werepig, Horror Fuel and Dread stone. These are pretty heavy lore-wise, and getting a whole new type of fuel after all these years I imagine has some pretty massive implications for the future of the game. I would guess the next arc focuses on a lot of nightmare related content, like how RoT focused on lunar content(to an extent).

I just don't understand how any of what you just said could be spoiled with the way Klei usually phrases their Roadmaps. In 2022 all we were told was

  • Year of the Catcoon + 2023 "Year of the...." event
  • Four Character refreshes ending in Q1 2023
  • Three QOL updates
  • More Cawnival games and prizes
  • Three "setting the stage" Content updates

If they wanted to avoid spoilers it would have been very easy. What wouldn't be easy to hide are additional char refreshes.

that could be pretty nice.

I hope not.
Re-refreshes for those who need it desperately (Willow, Woodie, Winona, maybe Walter) Then focus on other things. While I love character refreshes I remember it being mentioned the devs were getting tired of it. There is also the little thing that some people (at least I assume more than me) look forward to the bigger updates rather than a refresh for a character they don't have any interest in playing. It is important to take a look at all the characters but once all of them are set in stone, the star of the show is what the survivors interact with within the Constant.

Woodie, Winona

Winona first. Which would be synchronicity. Going from the one that started it all to the character who started off the investigation in Together("next of kin").

We might finally get a comic and more in world uses for the idols if they did some more tweaks for Woodie. I'd love to see the idols given a use in a short or comic.

I personally think this would be incredible, a skill tree system in Don't Starve has endless potential throughout the cast! Imagine a skill for Willow that would allow her to refuel her lighter! A skill tree for Winona that could upgrade her catapults and spotlight! AAAAA

maybe only Wilson would keep the perks/perk points between the worlds though? cause, as much as I love this idea, it could get a bit insane and even, excuse me for this one, "op", if some characters got even more power right from the day 1.

The fact that you can use the tree before you spawn in with a button in the character menu basically confirms that this is going to affect the other characters. It's easy to imagine everyone having a button like that eventually. This being restricted to Wilson is like if only Wilson was allowed to wear skins

Honestly if Winona gets perk tree with Wilson it could be cool. Like crafting more of walls or other structures, reduced costs on generators and building essentials? I dunno.

Willow could benefit from a perk tree just so her bernie could be more buffed and work anytime she'd like him to.

Maybe Warly and the food he makes he'd love even more to feel more filling and spices affecting him more.

General comfort of a lot of characters you play could have perk trees, feeling like you're progressing as you play is nice. While I guess it's mostly solely a Wilson thing right now - his perks are kinda weird. Useful ig for newbies by a small margin while being useful swap character for pros?

I'm kinda tired of swap characters tbf. I get there being one or two but myself I'd want those whom need some bit of work to have more meaning to wanting to play those characters. The only good ones right now I play I feel are Maxwell, Wanda, Wolfgang. Playing solo and trying to be efficient in time and things I wanna do is why I ever play those chars.

At least those are my takes as one of fairly old players around here. Nice to have characters that feel nice and comfortable and it's annoying to waste time and not have fun while at it and ya'll know how much time this game can eat up when playing.

that is like saying that every character will get a beard and a personal item with skin because there are a beard menu and a "change inital item skin" button...
