Except veteran players are more likely to spend money on skins than new players not saying new players should be ignored but ignoring players that stick around for new players who will either drop the game shortly after or eventually become a veteran player looking for more seems shortsighted and bad for sustainability.

I think this was a way to guide players in the right direction but still encourage experimentation.(or I could just be talking out of my butt haven't seen the other recipes yet.):lol:

they have the data but i doubt that selling few more 5€ copies in fraudulent pages to some casuals that might drop the game after few goofy chatting animal crossing experience will give more profits than the ammount of players that are here from years buying their games, characters and skin packs which gives more profits

atracting new players is good but forgetting what is the game about is another thing, there can be a balance. They didnt added any survival update since antlion and disease and we all know what happend with one of these feature

im not against easier settings, they have been in the game since forever but is really disappointed that they didnt added anything to make the game a little harder with those or in general in years, just the opposite by making the world being filled with food because is MP (but actually most people play alone or just with few friends), character refreshes but any mob refresh (mctusk AI still being ridiculous) and all new bosses are optional, any weather change (more like the opposite with the huge buff to thermal stone at the little price of having durability), etc

the only thing aimed for veterans that i can recall were ANR which was many years ago and only added optional bosses, twins of terror, CC and monkey raids before the nerf (cuz people wanna chat in a barren ocean and expect to stay like that forever) and wanda which has ranged weapon :/

 

edit: also is scary because if there are more casual players they can add more casual changes to make them happy -.-

Pretty sure it was the veteran players who bought Shipwrecked after enjoying RoG, and then bought Hamlet after enjoying Shipwrecked.. Realistically I don’t think ANY New player would e bought the significantly harder DLC expansions without at least learning “some” of the core game first.

DST does not HAVE a paid dlc expansion because Klei is treating DST like a live games as a service game that gets frequent updates.. but I can also guarantee you those Newer Player wouldn’t have bought an Expansion to DST that added harder content without first being “decent enough” at the core game.

Its no secret that DLC is supposed to cater to the people who are ALREADY playing and Enjoying the game: Not the casuals stepping in for the first time.

If people really wanted an easy mode, just say “Hey I really wanted an Easy Mode..” no one’s going to judge you- but at the same time: Klei shouldn’t completely IGNORE the players wanting amped up difficulty either.

And I’ll provide not one, not two.. but THREE good examples to that Argument.

Klei just added “No Sweat Mode” into DST from the Pocket Edition- But.. what they Opted NOT to Include is THIS:

Thats right: Players can choose to spawn into the world with an Already damaged Health Core.

The other two example are Wavey Jones/Boat Durability when smashing into stuff and how that was brutal and punishing when it first came out then got significantly Nerfed to be much less punishing.

Oh and Uhm Moon Quay Curse.. Which also released originally more uncompromising and then was later patched to be Completely Compromising.

There are 3 examples of how instead of “Make everything easier” we could equally had “Make things harder”

Veteran players are (& Rightfully so) getting highly displeased with the dress up contest, mini games and casualizing the holy high heck out of things.

After the complete obliteration of Moon Quay Curse even DLC (which is again meant to satisfy people who are already enjoying the game and not the new comers) is being catered to newer players.

Im probably just one frustrated voice amongst many who don’t share my feelings.. so my opinions don’t really matter anyway.

Im just stating facts that they can just as easily add “Reduce Core Health” as they added “Can’t Die to Anything”

No. Mike, you already made this mistake once before. Setting this option to "reduced" makes you take less damage, NOT damage you or smth.

Veteran player here, all content added since 2019 is 10x better than what came before. Not everyone who's been playing for a long time shares the same opinion!

same here, i think they should make it clear that its speaking for those who want more unncompromised content, because veterans are on all tastes. personaly pretty happy every time they add decor content like this time.

It is sensible to be complaining. This beta so far has proven to be a text dump for lore lovers. I doubt that's all that's planned. (I'm still hoping for a return of gorge and forge servers). 

When people describe things using "Chinese" it's intent is ambiguous, no dictionary lists Chinese as a derogatory. If you choose to take offence, that's on you. I personally love China and am learning to read and write Chinese. Did you know Mandarin Chinese doesn't have verb conjugations?

Don't think the idea is that the content is bad but that it shouldn't Only be aimed at casual players there were plenty of nice changes but the general focus on casual players feels like it's holding back the game's potiental.

Doesn't even need to be to that level the game has a fair bit of things that could be tweaked to make certain aspects more engaging.

Actually not only that - It seems impossible to be a welcoming game to newcomers if it strikes em hard and even more impossible to make it harder without an option to the players who dont want it. Giving to them options opens the possibility to implement harder challanges without make the game  a no for that part of players. Its called fairness.

Sigh...

Theres some good stuff here and i appreciate most of the quality of life stuff.

But i guess for now the priority is addressing new player retention since a lot of stuff is focused in that area with the recipes, relaxed mode, lore theater, easier health.

And thats great and all... but well considering most of the forum are hardcore fans and have probably been here a while its still disappointing, especially as someone who would like to see klei explore the other end of the spectrum in terms of difficulty and survival contrent,  but oh well another month (or was it 2 this time ive honestly lost track after the year and a half point with no new survival gameplay) goes by.

Heres hoping the big updates they have planned for 2023 is worth it and adresses the new difficulty and survival stuff

Finally I see people who think similar to me.

I thought this was an unpopular opinion, but I think 'veterans' (hate this term) should be the least of the developers' concern. No matter what new content they make and how hard the game gets, experienced players will learn it and get used to it quickly, and then even that won't be difficult anymore. It's an endless cycle of wanting things to be more and more challenging.

Complaining about how other people get to enjoy the game while their own experience is unchanged, seems pointless to me.
